If your AC outdoor condenser unit looks dirty or clogged up - it is probably time to get it cleaned. Clogged AC condenser coil will have significantly lower ability to cool off the refrigerant inside your system, and your AC may be working extra long time to keep the proper temperature in your house. You may also notice your electricity bill go up because of that. AC condenser should be cleaned once or twice a year, and if you haven’t had it cleaned in a while, you should definitely take care of it soon. It is fairly easy process that you can do by yourself to avoid costly service call. And your electricity bill may also go down a bit, since your AC will be working more efficiently.
Other useful DIY tips to improve your air conditioner efficiency are: replacing old clogged filters to improve air flow, and cleaning the drain pipe to improve condensation drainage.
Disconnect all power to the AC condenser unit by turning off the breaker inside the house, and by pulling out the breaker from the box outside. Blow away all of the dust and debris from around and under the condenser unit.
Condenser fan sucks the air from the outside. Cool air goes through the coil and gets cooled off, the hot air then is pushed up and out of the unit. Clogged coil could significantly restrict the airflow and reduce the cooling efficiency. To clean the coil, we will need to remove the fan assembly. It’s held in place by 4 screws. Take a few pictures and only then unplug the fan wires to make sure you can reconnect them properly later on. Take out the fan assembly. Lubricate the fan motor while you have it conveniently removed now.
Remove all of the leaves and debris from the bottom of the unit. Use a vacuum to remove the smaller particles and sand. These holes on the bottom are here for the rain water drainage - make sure they are not clogged as well. Pre-wash the condenser unit with a garden hose - from inside & outside. This should help with removing the large debris, as well as presoaking & loosening up the old hardened dirt inside the coil.
Apply the cleaning foam spray to the inner side of the coil. You can find this spray at your local hardware store or check out the link below if you’d prefer to buy it online.
I also like to spray the coil from the outside to get as much of the dirt removed as possible. You may need to get a second can for that. Let the foam sit and activate for several minutes. Thoroughly rinse off the foam and dirt from the coil. Reassemble the condenser unit in the reverse order.
As you can see this was a fairly easy & doable DIY maintenance project on your AC unit. I hope this video was helpful and if so, let me know and drop a comment below. I’d love to hear back from you, thanks.

I'm so glad you want to hear back from viewers. Now I have my Condenser running a mock. Living on a Roof can't help me much, but it's cold in here at 78 non- stop degrees. What now can be done? Help!
