While learning how to section I found it difficult to understand the concepts without a visual aid. For my final project in the TEM course I created this video to aid other visual learners. I apologize for the poor quality but hope that this video is informative.
This video is for educational purposes only.

Things are much simpler these days. There are many unnecessary steps and techniques included in this video that are not currently needed, and the ultramicrotome has advanced drastically.

This will be great for my students! It's so hard to crowd around a microtome, but this video will help with that! :)

i dont think that it is nessesary to make marks for trimming becuase anyway you are not cutting on the mark

I hate the soundtrack. Makes it sound like something horrible is going to happen.

Block too far out of the holder.
Dreadful score marks on the sections - throw that knife away ! Fit a new one or use a diamond knife

I'm glad you did! I started doing ultramicrotome in 1966 using a completely manual Cambridge ultramicrotome, with glass knives, cutting phloem tissue. Very difficult!
I moved to the Institute of Ophthalmology in 1971 and finally ended up using a Leica ! I retired in 2011,after seeing many changes in TEM and SEM
      Happy cutting !
