    Who We Are:
Edison Motors is a privately owned Canadian Clean Technology Company That Manufactures Electric Semi Trucks.
Dec 2021: Edison Motors was announced to the public
July 2022: Edison built North America’s first electric logging truck.
Oct 2022: Edison completed prototype testing
Nov 2022: Edison Motors began building their first production truck: an Edison L750
Edison Motors aims to produce Electric & Hybrid Vocational Trucks & EV Conversion Kits that deliver fuel savings without compromise.
Edison Motors was founded by Chace Barber and Eric Little who entered their business partnership in 2016 after graduating university and starting a trucking company with a 1969 Kenworth 5 axle Logging Truck (Old Blue). They began hauling logs in Merritt, BC. moved to hauling mining equipment into the Yukon and then expanded to moving drilling rigs in Alberta before returning back to BC Logging.
The business grew, more trucks were added and due to the frustration in serviceability of newer trucks the partners started rebuilding older trucks from the frame rails up to use in their own trucking operation instead of buying new truck. The business grew and expanded to hauling and installing power generation systems. In 2019 this added business aspect and growth to taking on the role of engineering and designing off-grid solar hybrid power systems. After their first successful project design and construction of a first nations community in northern BC Canada, Eric and Chace started to engineering process of a diesel-electric semi truck using the same principles.
The Edison Truck is the result of a trucking company who remanufactured classic logging trucks with their engineering expertise of off-grid hybrid power systems. It is the aim of Edison Team to have the reliability and serviceability of a classic semi with the efficiency, power, and emissions standards of an electric truck.
After reserving a Tesla semi in 2017 and not receiving the truck for 4 years, in 2021 they decided to start building their own electric trucks because that was quicker than waiting for the Tesla delivery and resulted in designing of a more robust truck tailored to the logging and heavy vocational industries their trucking company operated in.
Building The Truck Of The Future With The Quality Of The Past.
We only want to sell you the truck once.
Much like the Pacific trucks of the 1960’s and 1970’s. The Edison trucks are designed to be able to last, we understand the more uptime the truck sees and the longer it’s service life the better the Return on Investment is in the truck.
This is Edison Motors goal and philosophy, build the futures electric truck to run efficient as possible while being as simple to maintain as possible.
We are truckers, building truck, for truckers.
We let the engineers decided what components the truck needs for the electrical side, then we have experienced mechanics tell us what parts and being used and where those parts are going.
Our mechanics are use to working on logging trucks that are broken down in the middle of the bush, they know they’re the ones who will have to go repair them. We believe that nobody is better are make sure the truck is reliable and easy to fix as the ones who have to lay in snow at -40’ below or in spring mud.
Don’t kid yourself, these are the most efficient & modern trucks you can possible buy on the market today, but they’re made to be fixed in the bush. Our truck is high tech so your shop doesn’t have to be.
When your Edison Truck is delivered you can be sure you won’t need to go truck shopping again until you want to expand the fleet
    In The Shop.
It’s a fact in the vocational world that trucks are going to break-down. Off-road heavy hauling and logging in Canada beats up equipment. Edison plans for this by engineering our parts and equipment to make them as easy to service as possible for your mechanics.
Edison has a multi-layer process to achieve this goal:
The first step is early involvement of mechanics into the design process, making sure experienced mechanics look at the design for serviceability
Using commonly sourced parts, we try wherever possible to limit any custom built parts and opt for the common aftermarket parts companies use. This makes sure when something breaks you can go into any parts store and have the piece you need to get back on the road
no fault codes, if there is a fault our computer will tell you exact what the check engine light means

I wish a company would bring this tech to medium duty trucks. we do storm recovery and there are always fuel supply issues to extending fuel range would be a huge help.

They have stated they plan to. The problem with medium duty trucks is there is a lot more regulations they have to go through. It will probably be a retrofit kit. They just have partners that they will build trucks for first as they grow. They don’t even have a building to manufacture their trucks in yet.

I have cousins who work as designers/engineers for one of the big3 about 6 years ago I pitched this idea specifically for the HD pickup market (350/3500) chassis trucks. All we got was an electric pickup that was doomed by the specific issues with pure EV that I warned them about.

Massive congratulations to Chace and Eric for an incredible achievement. From "Carl" to a working prototype in one year is a truly amazing journey. And now comes the hard part ... scaling up. Faster would be better, but going public has a bunch of issues. Angel investor is great if they don't screw up the company dynamics or interfere. Watching with interest, wish I could help!
    ...
A while back Amazon bought a warehouse robotics company named Kiva to guarantee that ONLY Amazon would have access to their products. CUMMINS bought MERITOR. Typical big-company anti-competitive move - if you don't know who is killing North American manufacturing, you just need to look in the boardrooms.

Actually I think that is a chipmunk, squirrel have a bushier tail and larger body.
I like that you do these type of segments outside, we get to see the beauty of the outdoors. If this was one of the big boys doing this project, it would be behind 30 foot barbed wire topped fences, inside a high security building, and total media blackout. Noone would see anything till the prototype was completely built and then unveiled at some huge press event. But Noone would be able to get up close to it.
Then it will disappear back into the high security shop to get the major systems installed and working. Then do testing to see if it actually works. Probably taking 6 months to do what you did in the last week. Plus having 2 dozen different high level, high security meetings to talk about about each detail to death.
They would probably have a three day meeting just to argue about all the cables management issues. Where you guys just went ahead and ran everything and figured it out as you went.
They would have announced a production date at the press conference, and then move it back 3 or 4 times as they run into problems and delays.
With millions if not billions of dollars of cost overruns. You guys are staying under budget.
      🎉🎉🎉😇😇🤩🤩
Keep up the good work guys.

Love what you guys do, Wish I didn't live 7 000 km on the other side of the Atlantic or I would definitely come help out with both software and hardware knowledge. One thing that popped in to my head just now, looking at your videos. The diesel generator will cool off in between runs I guess, however, could it be possible to use the heat from the battery cooling system during the engines off time, even though it is not as hot as the engines working temperature, just to be a bit more gentle to the engine and possibly increase the life span. I have not given it a thorough thought yet but it just popped in my head and I figured someone could argue against me and see where the thought might lead :) And yes, I know the work needed to do this probably isn't worth it.

It would be awesome if you could lease a truck by the week or month. To get ppl interested in buying. Surely someone owns the old diesel to press cab parts for older trucks, it would be awesome if you could get those for a 70''s-80's Pete, or KW, can just modify it slightly, maybe put large windows in the bottom of the doors,a flat roof and large sleeper. Of course a Edison nose, maybe slightly different fenders for a Long haul model, getting the cab parts stamped should not be too expensive, the dies will be a cost up front, then a cab maybe $150-$200, each, then assembly, 18 gauge steel, a alloy with nickel maybe, basically a low grade stainless, to prevent rust , and the frame may be possible to only double rail at the axels, being there is no tq twisting from the engine, the 5th wheel, and the axels twisting, with a slight load between the front and rear axels! Just bulky x members at the double/ single line, and in the rear doubled area, Soo interested in seeing what the future has for you guys!! ✌️😎👍

I been watching your channel for a while now and I love what you’re doing and think it’s a great idea I believe car company should be looking into doing the same kind of thing for 4WD instead of a full EV here in Australia you’re go 100’s of Kilometres without a fuel stop not to mention a EV charging station and by going diesel electric and range increase is insane.could Drive around town off phone batteries and having the diesel engine to charge the batteries on the bigger drive being able to charge on the go instead of seating around for hours. That was a great idea

I hope Meritor comes around for you guys. I can understand why they wouldn’t want to sell to re fitters or very small manufacturers. It’s hard to sell and offer service to very small numbers. They are selling to scale it’s really the only way for them? Good luck guys!

I wonder if there's a way to also run a cable from the truck to a low loader with Cat E dozer or excavator if the trucks battery is full when using regenerative breaking as to help charge the equipment between job sites as opposed to discharging it as heat.

I would love a full video of the process you took to figure out your HP requirements, voltage and amperage conversions like from batteries to motors, the like. But then, I’m boring like that!😂 I look forward to what you have coming in the future!

Lmao these stupid Silicon Valley companies taking 5+ years to make a non working prototype and here’s Edison motors having a production truck done in under a year. No BS, no fake prototype, just honest hard work. Fucking legends

I'm new to seeing this truck. It seems incredible. I am not a fan of EV's in general but this seems like a great compromise. My question is why use an AC 4 pole generator and convert to DC for the motors? Why not use something like a very large alternator or DC generator to charge the battery bank and use the truck like a true hybrid? You could probably even keep the regenerative braking for more efficiency in mountainous terrain. I love what you guys are doing, keep up the good work!

Once you guys start getting these trucks in production the biggest headache will be the logistics of supplies. I'm wondering if you're going to have an excess supply stock on hand or do the "just in time" supply chain?

    • @Studio23Media

I'd say that procurement/supply of stock will grow with the company. The more trucks they're building at a time, the more stock they can afford to keep on hand.
