My grandma had a more manual version of the 3rd gadget. Its like a smaller tortilla press, with a crimping mold in it. But the difference between this gadget and the one grandma had , is that the filling is added only to one side of the press, as opposed to putting it in the middle in this fancy gadget. So the problem of the filling splooging out when the dough is pressed together , is solved. Wayy less messy.

The whole point is to convince a buyer that they will magically get expert results with zero learning curve and that they will suddenly do (everyday) a kitchen task they never do (like sushi gadgets). Like Ben, people that actually cook would rather spend their money on good ingredients than gadgets that end up collecting dust.

I mean most of the times you can dertmin if something is usefull and if you maybe gonna use it by looking at it at thinking about usecases.
I kinda learned that 10 years ago, when I for whatever reason bought a spiral slicer. I mean it was cheap. I used it once. It's been sitting around ever since. For most shit I see I can tell, I wouldn't use it enough to be usefull, or there are suitable replacements.
Oh also just look at the build quality. Most of the gadgets I encounter are built absolutely poorly. You can tell they'll propably break within 10 times using them.

We have the Morphy Richard’s soup maker & blender and it blends fine, totally should have made the broccoli chunks smaller, I mean, most recipes where you would use a regular blender you would cut ingredients smaller (inc herbs) to allow the small blades to work better and this is not only blending them but cooking them as well, but, as Ebber’s said, you would try different things and find out the best way to use the appliance.

But then as Ebbers says, if you have to go to that much effort cutting everything up and it still takes a while you may as well just use a blender or stick blender and have the whole thing done faster.
The only thing I can see working is the "fire and forget" aspect, where you can chuck stuff in when you wake up, set it to go while you are at work, set it to go again when you get back from work and then by dinner time it will have made soup and the slower nature of it matters less because you are doing other things in the downtime.

The gluten free dumpling skin recipes I've used always have a more playdoughy texture before being cooked and react better to the press than hand manipulation ( though I think the particular one you've tested is a little too rough handling for it lol)

I think the portable blender probably had issues in the first test because it was jammed full with hard ice cubes stuck at the bottom. I've got impression that most blenders rely on spinning fast rather than having torque. May have worked better if the machine crushed the ice before adding any other ingredients. Or not jammin the container full of stuff so the spinning blades could kick stuff up until they break up... Which in my experience has been how ice crushing blenders generally work.

@@Sletchman I think I have the same clamshell type gadget (I use it for deep fried hand pies and empanadas). I think the big thing is the "two at a time design" with the plunger in the centre. Only one side is supported and the other side can be pushed apart slightly by too much filling or too thick a wrapper. Everyone that makes various dumplings knows how important a good seal is.
