I have the original Raggedy Ann. I got her from Great Grandmother when I was a baby. of course I was born in 71, so she is antique .. she went where I went. she is falling apart but I can't part with her. any suggestions on preservation.?? Thank you.
Carol Schofield Wow Carol what a treasure you have! I have always just adored the original Raggedy Ann's. As far as preservation goes, be sure keep her away from sunlight which is the biggest problem for the cloth dolls. I would be sure to place her where she is not handled as well and just use a soft brush to gently dust her once in awhile. It's not good to keep in plastic because there is a chance of them drawing moisture so if you store her away just store her in a cotton pillow case or something like that.
I too was birn in 1971 and my great grandma made me my raggedy ann with my name on the belly theresa noreen conrad and christy chambers stole it from me...it has been my lifelong mission to find it!
This video is delightful!!!! Collecting doll soft and other types of materials , is fascinating and enjoyable!!!!! I have collected dolls for over 50 years, given many away to others, but always looking for those special childhood dolls I had. To me, dolls are love.
Hi Deanna, nice to see you again! What a lovely video of your old rag dolls! I have a collection of newer old type rag dolls. I've always loved the printed ones and have the printed cats too. I know mine are not old but have had some for over 25 years. What treasures you have to enjoy. And to think of the history of someone that loved those dolls. Your videos are always so clear. Thanks for sharing your love of history items. hugs, Judy
VintageArtTreasures Thank you for watching Judy and for your comment. This is indeed one of my favorite collections and the reason I chose the large doll as my business avatar. Have a great day!
Uchiba Uki Thanks for watching my video. I enjoy my cloth doll collection but right now I only have one printed cloth doll for sale. Here is the link for you to see: iantiqueonline.ning.com/photo/double-sided-printed-cloth-straw-stuffed-autograph-doll-19-00?context=album&albumId=1813674%3AAlbum%3A333600 She is currently on display in my antique booth and can be transferred to my online store for sales in USA, UK and Australia. Have a nice day!
Annie BABW My advice Annie is to always buy what you like but I realize not all early dolls are affordable. If money is not a consideration, the early Almish rag dolls are very sought after and valuable. The printed cloth dolls are usually not cheap (the early ones) but not as expensive as the Almish rag dolls. Many times beginning collectors will start with Raggedy Ann Dolls and you can find them for less money unless they are the very early ones. I hope this helps - I have always been able to sell this type of doll without any problem and they seem to hold their value very well. Just be sure they are indeed early and not reproductions unless of course that is not an issue with you. TFW and have a great evening.
Vintage Touch thank you, that seems to help me make up my mind. but just one more thing, what website would you recommend for rag dolls early/latest? thanks for replying!!!!
Annie BABW Actually I thought I was done but I did add another printed cloth doll to my collection this past year shortly after I made this video so I guess my answer has to be yes LOL. Sometimes you just cannot resist but that's what collecting is all about - the joy of finding something else you just have to own.
punkyspray TFW & for your encouragement. I actually do have a couple of Thanksgiving decorating with antiques videos in a playlist that I did some time ago if you would like to check it out. ruclips.net/p/PL606F3008710F6F6B. Hope you enjoy!
