I just bought a new pair of Bilstein B6 4600 shocks for my 2012 Silverado 1500. Mine are assembled in Mexico. I can't wait to install them this weekend.
You did it the hard way. lol! Put a jack under frame, jack it up until the shock is where you need it, slide bolt in. No muscle needed. Work smart, not harder.
Got the front Bilsten's at the junk yard for $20. Yes they spring back. The cheap Gabriel's from Autozone are dead, it has been about 3 years since they were replaced. Going to get the rear set tomorrow for another $20. Was to tired to take them off today lol.
I just replaced my 2002 Chevy express rear shocks today. Mine is also a 13mm top bolt but I used a "wobble" extension. I also used an air impact wrench to break the bottom nut. I also used a 2 x 4 as a fulcrum to compress the bottom of the shocks several times before doing my Arnold impression.
Just a heads up if you're looking forward to changing out your O2 sensors you're going to need a 7/8 wrench and a cheater bar and it's going to be on your 1995 Suburban
my back shocks come tied ,but it they are not tied or if after cut tie if goes beyond bottom hole you can use a jack to push shock up instead of your hand,,much easier to compress...if you are doing it without raising truckoff ground,,good video
I have a 1997 k1500 pickup. My driver rear shock broke. Ordered new ranchos for the rear. My concern is after mounting the top I have to force the bottom over towards the outside of truck. Is this normal or do I have a bent upper mount? Just looking at the mount it does not appear to be damaged but it’s concerning to me having to force the shock over towards the outside of the truck to line up the bottom. I can get it in pretty easy bit I’m wondering now if the shock broke because of a bent upper mount that was putting to much pressure on one of the upper ears. By the way that’s what happened one of the upper ears broke and the other ear had no bolt in it when I found it.

The rear of my 95 Chevy Suburban has a crap ride as far as suspension it seems, takes bumps very terribly and vibrates just as your were explaining in this video or the one for the front shocks, I'm watching your video as I comment to see how to do the repair. Great video but you should have told the viewers that they should prime the shocks 4 to 5 time before installing them a mistake I made recently. should I take them off and prime them or leave them alone
1 road- my 00-escalade still got those binstein shock might be original i was tinking on replacing them with manomax kyb or just replaced em with the same o.g?
Good video however Bilstein 4600 shocks will NOT fit a 1998 Chevy k1500 you will have to cut or chop the brackets on the truck or grind down the top and bottom of the shocks to fit into them. Not the way I would like to waste $166
When u were driving did your go over a bump and it hit hard but would give a little extra bounce? Mine does and I'm wondering if I should just change my shocks
I literally just got done doing this lol! I tried to get vice grips back there but there wasn't enough room. I ended up drilling the screw out. Gotta go to ace hardware to get another one but getting a nut up there is gonna be a pain in the ass
You didn't say what size socket you used on the lower bolt & nut. Another video shows that Monroe shocks come precompressed and you just cut a zap strap to extend them into position for the bolt. But maybe the Monroe shocks aren't as good. Also, you could mention your use of safety glasses to keep the crap out of your eyes.
gonna be doing my suburban but part numbers are different because it's a k2500 model. but yeah the rear is like a trampoline and the front is pretty hard but slight bounce. can't wait to get them on. good news is mine has way more room probably enough for an impact gun. but I'll have to do this soon for my yukon too damn hahah. did you buy it new because that's pretty low miles but looks like it's kinda crusty under there.
+sneakysnakepie1 bought used from the original owner @ 40k miles. The truck is amazing. The shocks are amazing too. I would note though that if you have any rattling or loud shaking when hitting bumps, the shocks most likely wont cure it. Your truck will ride better but you might need to install new door weather stripping and tighten down the dash bolts. That's what I had to do anyways. But sure does make a huge difference in perceived ride quality.
1 Road literally the rear is bouncy but with people or it loaded down it bounces like 3 times or more lol. I just took them off and pushing on the rear bumper it's a lot stiffer. just haven't driven it yet. I recently replaced the front end parts so thankfully no noise. the front isn't bad but I replace parts in pairs so why not all 4. Pretty sure front have been replaced but it has the 6.5 diesel so a lot of weight so it can't bounce much anyways. thanks for the video, I like to see what I get into before doing stuff because it's supposed to rain here in a bit.
sneakysnakepie1 You won't be disappointed with these shocks. I can tell a major difference in a lot of different scenarios. It's fun to feel for the shocks working when I hit bumps or woops in the freeway at speed. I would absolutely do all 4 at once! you regret if you don't.
+Faith Hernandez Bilstein is a HUGE name in the automotive industry. Yes, they are aftermarket. If you go to their website you can put in your exact vehicle and they will tell you exactly which models you need. The shocks are FAR better than anything that was ever put on these trucks from the factory. Couldn't be happier.
something like the Monroe Load Adjust Shock Absorber will be way better than just shocks for those heavy vehicles .In my opinion is waste of money for bilsteins on the back .

Jack up the vehicle and the axle will drop so that you don't need to compress the shock.
My shocks on 2011 Sierra are all rusted. Starting to squeak on bumps. Very helpful vid.
Use a floor jack to compress shock or raise the car, it will drop the axle. No muscle required.
And what to press against?
I tried that but all the hydraulic fluid oozed out of my floor jack. Now I got no choice but to put myself in the Arnold Schwarzenegger mode.
It's "shocking" how little rust is on the underside of your truck...I'm guessing you're not located anywhere in the Northeast...

I have a small hydraulic floor jack I use for many things including compressing shocks
I got Monroe gas magnums. Only problem is-use a hydraulic jack, to press the bottom into place.

Would lifting the rear make this easier as in not having to compress the shocks?

Sounds like it. Shouldn't be any bounce. Shocks minimize the compression/extension of springs so your ride is "level"
I have B6 shocks on my Explorer and ripped off the air ride, so much better!
