so.... I just burned through 40 odd Nook Mile tickets to get one of the many villagers on my list, the odds were pretty good. I had a roughly one in 14 chance of finding one of them. But I should have known the search was cursed when I encountered "She who shall not be named". Fortunately, I had an Amiibo ready just in case, because over 40 freaking villagers, and not one from the list.

Have you tried clearing the cache on the switch? I saw people suggest that for repeat villagers and it seems to work. Possibly worth a try. I tried it earlier and started getting new villagers.
Also Cephalabot is now a 1 in 35 chance as it.picks species first and when it chooses octopi there's only Cephalabot
That is actually good to know. I wish I'd known about that prior to my latest villager hunt.
