2:35 the RTX 5060/5060 TI according to the latest rumours will have 8GB vram also. Thats literally Pure Evil to still lauch middle level gpus with only 8GB vram .
5060 is not middle-level, it is bottom of the barrel. 60 class is low tier, 70 class is mid-tier, 80 class is high-tier, and 90 class is flagship. And before you ask, the now rare 50 class is ultra-low tier.
4060 is low tier of th3 series...but it is still mid tier if you put into perspective all the gpu's available. Certainly more powerful than many other options.

It really is crazy how well made these videos are, seeing every setting compared and benchmarked is surely what anyone ever wants from these types of videos but I swear its not that easy to find. VRAM hungry means some people wouldn't even can launch the game at all, unoptimized somehow you can run it but with stutters and actually could finish the game like that. 🤷🏻♀️🥴

Thanks for the upload, king. I tried DF "optimized" settings, using supreme texture pool on 12gb VRAM card and it started to drop fps in Vatican, i bet they didn't played even 1-2 hours of the game.
devs became way too lazy optimising games, no way this is having problem with 8gb vram when alan wake 2, metro exodus or even TLOU part 1 dont have, and they all be looking better than this, i hope that company never release a game again. o yeah really good video btw, keep up
Actually, turning on rt sun shadow alone disables default GI in some indoor areas without any replacement. This is a very noticeable visual downgrade in the tomb section in the intro. So the best path tracing settings is either enabling them all or disabling then all.
@@RogerExplodey Yes, because rt indirect illumination is the supposed replacement for the default GI. But as the video suggested, turning on rt indirect illumination without rt reflection making the scene lacking default ssr. So there really is no combination of pt settings, other than just enabling all of them, that has no visual downgrade.
Can anyone tell me why shadows will disappear if I look outside from inside? I enter the cave at the beginning and look out, all the shadows disappear (they pop back in when I walk out). I'm in the college at the beginning in the day, and looking out the windows there are no shadows.

I play on 3070, I've already reached the Himalayas, 1440, dlss quality, medium textures, the rest is incredible, it flies, I don't know what everyone is shouting about, you just need to know how to set it up, textures load the same on high and medium, I didn't notice any difference in their quality

I'm not traditionally a PC gamer, but I really wanted to play this game and this video is a lifesaver, I can't wait to boot up the game next and apply these settings! One question as a complete rookie though - the resolution is not mentioned among these optimization settings, how does changing the resolution affect the performance? I usually hook up the laptop to my 4K TV, so I've selected a 4K resolution in the settings, but does that considerably impact the overall performance? Should I opt for a lower resolution and use upscaling instead? Again, I'm a complete rookie when it comes to these optimization settings on PC, I'm generally a console gamer. Yeah it impacts the performance by an extreme amount. Im not sure what would be best in your situation, maybe someone else here will have advice for you.
Thanks for this. I will try and enable path tracing on my RTX 4070Ti. We will see if I can hit about 60fps before I enable frame generation. The problem is that frame generation alone takes approx. 1GB of VRAM and my card 'only' has 12GB. Can't believe this is now the absolute minimum for a GPU. I'm still on the fence if I should keep investing money in new hardware or just stay put and catch up on my backlog. I have enough powerful hardware to run everything on my backlog with maxed out settings. This push for RT is another gimmick to create FOMO and force people to upgrade in my opinion.
So RT for AMD gpus will came with a later update ? or this is only locked to Nvidia in this game ? Pretty bs. dumb move to not have RT for amd gpu at launch thou in any case.

How about this? The game has a bug with DLSS that if you are getting close to VRAM limit, it crashes the FPS down to 10 FPS or lower. The only trick is to go into menu, switch to TAA and then back to DLSS. Running RTX 3070 with 8GB RAM paired with a 7800 X3D and 32 GB RAM @6400. Playing everything Ultra at 1440p with DLSS set to Quality and Texture Pool set to Medium. 80-100 FPS depending of the region. The main idea is to pay close attention to the VRAM performance graph. Set Performance setting to show at least VRAM bandwidth and Heap Size. You will notice that bandwidth is limited at 7GB since the rest is allocated for Heap memory. Now, with the settings I mentioned, it will oscillate between 7300 and 7500 MB depending on the silicon lottery. But of course is not overlapping 8GB. Try going at 8GB or over by setting higher Pool Size and the game will crash instantly. You can even do High setting, however due to how the texture pool is handled, you might trigger excess of VRAM in certain areas and go in one digit FPS, needing to do the TAA - DLSS trick again. Tested this for 3-4 hours on Medium with no issues. Therefore, you can have the game running flawlessly with everything maxed out, except Texture pool which all that really does is loading the texture to a certain distance. So feel free to use my simple guide and mitigate the bug on 8GB of VRAM GPUs. And of course, make sure you have the latest Nvidia driver installed. I can only test this on Nvidia sadly.
Ive a 3070 and if i use high texture pooling, or rather, anything above medium, the game freezes with a black screen after i restart it, right before it reaches the main menu and the sound starts clipping. Even if i try to end the process via task manager, there is no response to it, but if i go on steam library and click exit game or whateve its called, then it closes it. Weird stuff... on medium and below, however, it works decently (1440p)
Personally think Indirect Illumination would be better to turn on rather than sun shadows if you had to choose which one to turn on. Especially in the darker areas where light is somewhat present either from torches and such
You forgot to mention the massive impact on visuals if you enable HDR! It's actually much more important than path tracing even and at no cost. However it does break DLSS, so you have to use TAA or apply HDR outside of the game

This game is hilarious 😂 In one hand runs really well for low end RT hardware and NVIDIA takes the lead that mostly all rtx cards can run it at higher settings than the xbox series x (due to amd lower rt) but at the same time proves to nvidia that vram IT IS REALLY necessary at some extend.
Has anyone else noticed that the game has very jagged edges even with DLSS? The edges flicker a lot, and it’s really frustrating. I was going to play in 4K to try to fix it, but I can’t due to VRAM limitations.

I noticed this too. If you have RT sun shadows and RT indirect lighting turned on it works. RT reflections can remain turned off.

So basically this game is really well optimized until it isn't.
It's not well optimized at all, the VRAM usage is embarrassing for such a potato looking game

@@RedRoses71 If you have more than 8GB of Vram, you can increase Texture Pool size along with Global Illumination or Shadow Quality.
@@benchmarking4386 I have Ryzen 3600x and 3060 12gb, and putting shadows to medium from ultra made the game smooth in the vatican area, previously it had crazy frame time spikes, just because of shadows settings

In one hand runs really well for low end RT hardware and NVIDIA takes the lead that mostly all rtx cards can run it at higher settings than the xbox series x (due to amd lower rt) but at the same time proves to nvidia that vram IT IS REALLY necessary at some extend.

If you have 3080 10gb then you won't be able to enable it. It works only with 12gb of vram or higher, with less vram it won't let you use it.

Has anyone else noticed that the game has very jagged edges even with DLSS? The edges flicker a lot, and it’s really frustrating. I was going to play in 4K to try to fix it, but I can’t due to VRAM limitations.
