I am an autodidactic amateur and a passionate Baroque recorder player...and I never ever tried to play JAZZ! _(that I love so much)_ KUDOS to this amazing, lovely lady 💙
You are amazing !! I play recorder in school since I was 11 till I was 15 years old and I really liked it. Now i am 44 years old and I started again playing alto recorder in a music school for adult people and I like it so much ❤️
excellant intro for my foray into jazz on the tenor recorder. ive been playing several years, started on the soprano then to alto and now the tenor, which is my favorite. I really like jazz and so i would like to learn some jazz pieces. Ive been playing mostly christian and easy listening pop tunes. thank you for this intro, you are quite a talented blockflutist.
Thanks Tali for posting this vid! I'm new to the recorder - never played one until this year! - and I love jazz. Always thought jazz was too complicated for me to play - but your teaching style makes it seem possible!
I am an intermediate recorder player, do you have anymore recommendations for jazz/blues repotair (S A T)? i am not someone who can play by ear, i already have jazzy recorder book 1 and and working through book 2. I would also like recommendations for jazz/blues technique books /book of excerises? Another thing is that i haven't come across such repertoire for Alto.
Why do some recorder players point their recorder sideways? Is it the "pro" way? Does it sound different? Is it just a silly fashion, because it looks cooler?
It can't affect the sound. But it also isn't just automatically straight, you'd have to keep it there. If you care. I just closed my eyes while playing something in a mirror and then looked--not straight, and I hadn't realized it.
I don't have a good answer - it's just a habit I've developed over the years without being aware. It doesn't help or hurt my playing, I believe. I assume it's generally better for your anatomy to keep it in the middle.
the Bach piece is way better as it is... I mean, the bass guitar is cool, but the block flöte is just sluggish and undefined, like, anybody can play like that... and playing like this makes no sense
I don't know about that, how boring would music be if interpretations of pieces were limited to the 'proper way' to play them. That's the whole thing about music, you can be creative with it and cross genres, plus it's all notoriously subjective anyway. By all means, have your opinion, but don't say it like it's a fact. (Especially when you seem to lack an understanding of recorder music and technique, though please correct me if i'm wrong) I completely disagree that "like, anybody can play like that", the recorder is harder to play well than you think and Tali Rubinstein is an incredibly skilled and well regarded musician. Calling her playing, or the sound of the recorder in general, sluggish and undefined is quite a bold statement. I'd be interested to hear you back it up further.

S.A. Thompson - was there a point to all that, or did you just want to waste your own time typing loads of Bible verses no one will read?
What kind of recorder to you prefer for jazz? soprano, alto, tenor, bass? Any particular recorder? Your jazz recorder is wonderful!
I love that jazzy Badinerie. Is there more of it?

Thank you dear Mau!!!! :))
Question: For playing jazz on the recorder, I'm assuming you must have a direct blow instrument, not one with a bocal tube. Is that correct?
thanks! I needed help with that! nice knowing there are some recorder players with the help I needed!!
If you need more help, be sure to book a lesson with Tali! www.lessonface.com/music-instructor/tali-rubinstein-0

Hey Yaz, I would use the Real Book for C tunes instruments. For jazz theory I recommend Berklee College's books (like 'Jazz Harmony'). Good luck!!
I would love to learn how to play an alto recorder
Making me wish I could go back to fourth grade and take my school-issue plastic recorder more seriously. God bless

Maybe it's easier to hold
