Here's a short video showing how I use Soda Cans to make a great domed support for hollow and curved beads. You will need scissors, and a soda can, and that's it!
Love the tip on the tabs. I had made a bunch a while back but am slightly stressed due to the raggedy edges. I make small ones out of tomato juice cans. Thank you for sharing. Love your videos.
There is a russian lady on youtube, Lena Xalilova, who uses glass marbles for domed and hollow beads. She places them on a dishwashing sponge to bake. I tried it and it works very good! Also, I bought a few metal snale-plates (to serve escargots) in the thriftstore, those work very well too!
Thank you again for sharing. To make it even easier I gave my husband my soda cans and asked him to cut them out for me. He wore gloves (the whimp), but now I have 6 molds to use. Cutting the tabs is also a great idea.
great video Patricia! I have a few I have made and I have put scrap clay around the edge of my can so not to cut oneself ... Arizona tea cans are great for larger disks ;-)
Patricia No problems with dulling your scissors. To sharpen them, just go to your local Automotive body supply store or home improvement store and get a pack of 150 grit wet and dry emery paper. NOT sand paper. Take out a sheet, wet it in a tub of water then make about 4 or 5 cuts into the wet sheet the length of the blades, dry and oil them. That'll do it.Dave
I got this idea from you, Patricia. TY. 😊 But I was so paranoid of the edges, having cut myself a time or two playing with metals, that I used the same idea as with the metal and filed the edges and finished with OOOO steel wool and the edges are so smooth you can run your fingers on them.
Brilliant! Plus, with the rest of the can, you can make cutters. I guess tin snips would be best to not ruin scissors. I usually don't do anything with cans because I am clumsy and I don't want to cut myself. Maybe I can get my husband to do this for me ;D
Thank you! I did this a while back just for fun and wondered if I were the only one! Glad I'm not! Have you any videos showing your working with the clay into the can?
Sadly the Description said nothing about polymer clay. I love polymer clay but my search was for beads made from pop cans . I sat through the entire video expecting a domed bead made from the aluminum.
pfengwa44 , yes you can, and sometimes I do however most cans have some markings or are not perfectly smooth on the underside, and this can transfer to the clay.

Thanks Pepper Pot
I did this and WOW! I use them a lot. I have about a dozen of them. Thanks for the SUPER good idea!
Great tip! AND you can use the sides of the can to make your own cutters! Who knew!
You're right! I've done that too

Good job for the Hubby!
Celeste Wilkie adding masking tape or painters tape keeps the tin from cutting my skin, and can also be baked :-)
That's a great idea! I work a lot with soda cans, but never thought of this.
Thank you!

Great idea, with a bit more effort you can be safer!

I don't understand why do you need to bake these & for how long do you bake them & for what temperature, then after that what are they used for?
Thank you
Thank you! I did this a while back just for fun and wondered if I were the only one! Glad I'm not! Have you any videos showing your working with the clay into the can?

Thank you!
I fold my tabs to the inside then pinch them in tight with a set of pliers.
what is the bead made of?
I work with Polymer Clay, Premo brand
thank you
Could you not just turn the can upside down and use the concave bottom? It seems like it would achieve the same purpose.
