Okay I made your three ingredient yogurt tonight for the first time. I want to preface this by telling you that I never liked plain yogurt because to me it smells like stinky feet. LOL when I put it together, all I could smell was that stinky feet smell from the plain yogurt. The eight hours just finished and I tasted it and it is OMG fantastic! It's in the fridge and I'm so looking forward to eating it for breakfast tomorrow with some fruit and almonds. Thank you so much for this recipe! Oh, I wanted to tell you that I bought the wrong milk. I bought Fairlife but I bought the one that was no fat and ultra pasteurized. I wasn't sure if it would work but I decided to try it anyway. It worked perfectly! It's creamy and the Spoon stood up when I placed it in the yogurt. This is so much cheaper than buying all those individual containers of yogurt and making all that plastic waste! Thank you so much for making this video!

I used this recipe and made yogurt the other night and it turned out amazing! Thank you for the recipe. One thing though... The video confused me a bit regarding the lid and you mentioned that you can use the lid or put a plate on top and I was thinking... I want to use the lid, so does it need to be on venting or sealing? So I went to you site, found the recipe and unlike the video it said to put the lid on sealing. I did and it worked. Maybe it doesn't matter, I don't know but... if you're on the fence regarding sealing or venting... Sealing worked for me. :)

    • @OneLiterPeter
      @OneLiterPeter 3 года назад +18

@@mn6780 I made some just yesterday as a matter of fact... Here's what I realized... There are two pressure mechanisms on the instant pot. One is the sealing venting thing and the other is the metal pin. In order for the pin to seal... the temperature in the pot must be high enough for it to create steam and push the metal pin up. When you make yogurt... the temp never gets high enough to push up the pin so it doesn't matter if it's on sealing or venting... it never gets a chance to do either because it never makes enough heat to push the metal pin up.

Making my own yogurt was happiness! The only other food I've made in the IP, was oxtails & recently I've made oatmeal in it. This is the recipe for LIFE!! I've tried the boil method & ended up with, not yogurt it was Kefir 😒😂😂 I'll use maybe half of the condensed milk & add some vanilla extra. Soooo good!! Two weeks ago, I used vanilla bean pods. I loved seeing the lil specs of the vanilla bean in the yogurt. I've used a blueberry, mixed berry, strawberry & peach yogurt, as the starter & while it changes the color slightly, it's still soooo good! I usually go for 8:30, just a lil extra tang, extra razzle dazzle😊 The no boil method....game changer!

I have been making my yogurt with this cold start way every week for many months. My store never has the Fairlife whole milk so I use the organic whole milk from Walmart and add the sweetened condensed milk and yogurt starter stirred well then do the yogurt setting on the instant pot. I do strain it into the yogurt strainer because I love Greek style and it is fabulous. If you use a good Organic milk there is no need to boil the milk. The Cold Start method always works.

It is much easier to put the Sweetened condensed milk in the pot first, then wisk in the yogurt, and finally two glugs of the milk, wisk, then add the rest of the milk. Mixes together much easier.

Liked it so much he said I should get another to use just for yogurt since I've wanted to make some for a long time. So here I am at almost 71 making my first yogurt of any kind. this is also only my 2nd time using an Instant Pot. Hubby said this appliance is all mine to use. He will keep doing the air frying. Works for me. My new pot is a 3 qt. My yogurt will be done around 9pm and then I shall put it in the fridge and try it in the morning. Fingers crossed. I tried your recipe with exactly the same ingredients. The yogurt turned out sort of the consistency of thick Elmer’s glue. Weird. It tasted good but the consistency was very much like the sweetened condensed milk. I was disappointed. PART 2. I’ve been searching other channels for more info on no book yogurts. Someone mentioned the yogurt starter needed to be fresh in order to avoid stringy (which I had made 🙁). So I got a new carton of plain yogurt, more triple filtered milk and tried it again according to your directions. Yea! It worked. Perfect yogurt. I have a different instant pot - Duo Evo Plus. I looked up the manual as the buttons are different. So your recipe is perfect. Thank you!!

Thank you and Thank you for this video!! I just took my 1st batch out of the fridge and it is perfect! My 3yo isn't a milk drinker, but eats tons of yogurt and prefers drinking it out of pouches. I stopped buying the Sonyfield Organic store bought yogurt pouches because they're really expensive and they have too much sugar. So, I've been buying a pint of vanilla and plain and mixing it (for flavor, but less sugar) and filling my own reusable yogurt pouches. This recipe is a life saver for me! Much cheaper, and makes about the same amount I was buying every week. Also LO loves it and didn't notice the change.

This is the best yogurt ever! I like to strain mine after it has sat in the refrigerator overnight and let the whey drip out. It is so smooth and creamy and delicious! I always use your recipe but sometimes I add some key lime juice because I also love key lime yogurt!!!

I've made this twice so far. The first time I tried it without the condensed milk. The consistency was great but just a little too bitter even when added to a smoothie. The second time I added the condensed milk and 1 tbls vanilla and it is delicious. I also strained it the second time because I always hate when yogurt separates. I may try half a can of condensed milk next time but not sure since it is so good. Thanks!!

I add Nielsen Massey vanilla with the milk and plain yogurt. I put the yogurt
    When done in yogurt containers.
Put lemon curd or lime curd on top
    When serving. Decadent yogurt.
Oh my is this good. I give as gifts like this.

I've been making yogurt this way. Though I only made with sweeten condensed milk just once. Once mixture is combined I put it into pint and half canning jars with lids. Into the IP for 12 hours. Perfect Greek yogurt 😋. Two ice cream scoops and chocolate syrup it's like a dish of ice cream without the guilt.

Tried this last night and woke to delish yogurt. I used a different brand of ultrapasturized milk and it worked fine but does not give you as thick a yogurt. I am straining it now in the fridge so it will get plenty thick! Used the whole can of condensed milk but will reduce it next time, too sweet for me. Will be fun to start experimenting now! Thanks 😊

Hi, Has anyone tried evaporated milk instead of the condensed? Trying to cut out sugars but thought the evaporated would add some richness. Ordering an instant pot with the yogurt setting to replace an old crock and making yogurt is on the top of my list! I'll eventually test out the evaporated if no one has tried it. Glad I found this channel. Wonderful!

Kristin, I bit the bullet lol bought the fair life milk. It’s just slightly less than a half gallon. Bought each item exactly, followed your instructions exactly as well. Observations: at the end of 8 hrs yogurt was still very soft? Why? Added 2.5 more hours, yogurt was more firm but not as firm as yours. Nor was it as white. After overnight in the fridge it’s firmer but won’t hold a spoon up. Any thoughts as to what happened.

My instant pot is currently on 4 hours and 30 minutes of yogurt making and it smells so good. It’s starting to solidify. I followed your exact recipe (except I used plain whole Greek yogurt as the culture) but in the future can we use milk from like Walmart and target? I can get a gallon of whole milk from target for .99 but I don’t think it’s ultra filter.

Many people have been asking the same question on how to make this without the yogurt option on their instant pot. After going to the six sister stuff website, I realized that even if I had the yogurt option on my instant pot, I would still need to use a ultra pasteurized, ultra high temp, or shelf stable milk. The one suggested is Fairlife milk. I have never heard of this kind of shelf milk. That said, I’m kind of disappointed because I love yogurt and I’ve only made it in my crockpot and was excited to try an instant pot recipe for yogurt. Do you think you can come up with an instant pot recipe for non-yogurt option button instant pot people? Or is the boiling method the only way?
I Love your channel and all of your delicious recipes. Thank you so much for all your hard work doing all the brainwork behind getting all of us such easy recipes and tips on using our instant pots.

Question for you: I have been making yogurt using your method (or very similar) for quite a while and mine does not turn out as thick as yours looks here, but I strain it so it becomes thicker and "Greek" yogurt and it's just great, I love it. Well, I just made some that did not thicken up at all! I used a gallon of 2% milk and about a cup of plain yogurt. It smells and tastes like yogurt but it did not actually "become" yogurt. I started to strain it through cheesecloth and a large colander like I always do, but it was just going to mostly run right through it, so I poured it back into the instant pot and decided to try again. I pushed the yogurt setting and waited another 8 hours .... result - exactly the same! Not knowing if I was changing the overall make-up or protein structure, but thinking I've got nothing to lose, I tried a 3rd time and back in the pot it went for ANOTHER 8 hours. When done, it had been in the "incubation" pot for a total of 24 hours! Alas, no change and still didn't look like the yogurt I normally achieve. SO.... because I have recently learned how to make ricotta cheese from milk and/or cream, I decided to see if I could turn this failed batch into ricotta cheese. I put it in a regular large stovetop pot, heated it to 200 as ricotta instructions say, removed from heat, added the proper amount of lemon juice and salt, gently stirred, waited, and still no separation of curds and whey happened as it should. It basically looks like heavy cream. So now I am like .... Huh! What is going on and what did I do wrong? Could it be the milk? I googled and learned that if my milk was UHT pasteurized it probably won't work. The milk I used came from Costco - it's Kirkland Signature 2% pasteurized milk. It does not say UHT but I figure they probably don't have to state if they are using that process. Could that be why it didn't work?
And of course, now I am wondering what can I do with this creamy sour tasting milk? It doesn't taste bad but it's not yogurt, not ricotta and not even sour cream! Can I somehow turn it into sour cream or is there anything you would suggest besides dumping it?
Thanks for any advice and sorry this got so long! :)
