I've had a plan for a couple of years to build a home automation system to control every part of my home. I'm finally doing it, and will turn it into a series of videos.

I love the lighting in this video, looking forward to the series
Really looking forward to this, I'm currently trying to do to the same thing as I'd love to have smart home stuff but don't want to rely on a manufacturer's cloud service for everything. I just need to get the finger out and find the time to work on the software, hopefully this series will be the motivation I need!
Cameron! Hey
Looks cool! But why not just use Home Assistant? www.hass.io
Sorry, understand what you are thinking about making now. Looks really cool! I will definitely watch!
"There's a library in python that does a thing I need. I don't really know python, but I'm gonna give it a go". I like your style, friend.
I could watch you build anything
an Ikea table?
You intrigue me. You inspire me to keep innovating and keep involved into new ideas with exploration. Always looking forward to your videos. Happy to be part of your creative journey.
Very excited for this series! Thanks Jake!
Really looking forward to this. Good job Jake
actually choosing different language for every microservice is a good idea. since micro services are separated there’s no need to create them using the same tools, the main thing is their ability to communicate
Look forward to this series. Since your "12 minute" videos, I've always believed that you are a natural teacher.
Hey Jake. You are a nice guy. Thanks for sharing your interesting content. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Germany
the way you smile when you talk about the stuff you love doing just makes me happy, i wanna be that happy D:
Love this idea! I'm knee deep in a similar project myself. Looking forward to seeing more!
Please continue this series! Super into smart home!
This would be a great series! I'll definetely be following along
Yes Jake it will be interesting seeing all the skills and information you need to achieve all this I am looking for word to the next blog
Love it.
Stoked for this new series
I like how you use a simple paper to show things on video.... simple and amazing!
Glad I found these videos, I've started a similar project. I've got the HS110s too, been sending the data into a time series database InfluxDB for now. Plus a few other projects. Looking forward to following along.
Great project, very well done and thanks for sharing.
Saw your video and i just smashed that subscribe button.Really looking forward to this series.Good work keep it up.
Sounds like an awesome series!
Awesome idea man, looking forward to it!
SPOT ON. I just bought a bunch HS110 plug monitor with energy monitoring. Very basic and I did not see many other options. I am glad had found your channel, and subbed and belled and been following. I look forward to the videos.
Super exited for this jake! Hopefully I can learn alot too
Great video. I sure appreciate what you're doing.
Amazing channel!!!! The first ever coding video i have watched was your "Learn HTML in 12 minutes" tutorial and that was what got me into programming. Amazing to see the growth of your channel and knowledge since that video. Keep it up
You sir are a scholar. Enjoy watching your channel. I've learned a lot.
I'm really looking forward to this series!
Are you planning on touching on security in this series?
Super intelligent guy and very refreshing to listen to. The strong content is much appreciated :)
Sounds like a fun series! I am sort of obsessed with home Automation and I think pretty much every front end I have seen is not good at all. I will be very interested in what you come up with. I have Harmony Hub as well to control the telly and DVR. I can control pretty much everything from a phone and also lots of things from Alexa. But you are really flipping from app to app to app and would be much more fun to have actual integration and an attractive front end. So very interested in what you come up with!
Can't wait to follow along. This is going to be, wait for it...Brilliant.
I stumbled upon this channel, and I have never been so excited for this project.
I did a similar project(check my channel) but placed it on the back burner a while ago - But you have just reignited the flame...
Thank you, #As I go over your videos.
Great work
I have subscribed because of this project thanks.
Cool project
This sounds like it's going to be a particularly edifying series
I am very excited for this series. You may want to eventually look into the ESP8266 and/or ESP32 micro controllers. They offer an inexpensive WiFi (and Bluetooth for the ESP32) enabled Arduino compatible experience. Thanks for sharing this project with us!
JAKE I LOVE YOU SO MUCH
Really looking forward to it , excited to learn how to control a tv with a raspberry pie
Hey Jake, how about writing controller's code using "reactive programming" paradigm ?
you are actually inspiring me to get out of my lazy life jake
Looking forward to this 👍
Already waiting for part 2
Good idea question: did you learn how to do this at Cambridge or are learning as you go along ?
Very interesting post.
This is something I would love to learn to do as well. Pave the way Jake!
Ayy kemp what you doing here!
MacOnTrack been following Jake for about 4 years:)
Small world mate, i've been following for around 3, following you for around 7 months
home-assistant.io
this is amazing!
Hi Jake, hope you are well. I was wondering whether you can develop a script in Python that you can make trading in a kind of automation system as well. Thank you for your attention.
East or West Jake Wright is the best
this is so cool !!
You should take a look at HomeAssistant! Keep up your work 👍
Hmm I feel you are trying to reinvent the wheel a little but but it will be fun and a good learning experience! and you'll get to make it exactly how you want it to be! Good luck and I look forward to the videos
Even if things aren't Apple Home compatible there are ways to make them
Brilliant!
Hue bulbs are the greatest invention ever! They work for me perfectly. Ya they’re expensive but they should last for about 10 years, for me the price is worth it
Hey. how can one use REST API to provide videos and other medias for users to view and are able to like
Very good, I'll be watching :)
YES! This is going to be fun, I am in.
can't wait for the next video on registry service in python. I was wondering if you would use python when you first talked about microservices. I guess you can use node for controllers
Oh fuck yeah. Jake building his own JARVIS? Sign me up.
You look very happy!
Hi
jake what is best source to learn python
Nice!
Awesome
keep it up!
Thanks Jake ❤
U are awesome i like u so much ur lifestyle 👍
What’s the difference between cloud and this?
Wow, this guy is legit. Richard Feynman would be proud.
Nice
Think i landed a little late here, still... i'm into seeing where the series go ;)
hi mate, you need to add the 'www' to your link because without it's not working
This is something which I have already done it. I did everything in Android and i replaced hue bulbs with Tuya bulbs which are very cheap.
Jake so looking forward to watching this, have a feeling you are going to get VERY Geeky (no offence) but it will be cool to watch :-)
Will you eventually use Apple's HomePod?
Looking forward for a github repo link.
FYI: Might I draw your attention to the following product and website: SENSE at sense.com
Sense installs in your home's electrical panel and provides insight into your energy use and home activity through our iOS, Android, and web apps.
It sounds like your enjoying your new position and I trust all is well. Just a thought or two
I think I know which language you’re going to use to build micro services 😏
You got me on node.. Am staying
Machine learning to predict your mood and intention, so everything just works without you having to say anything?
Thank you for saving my programming ass !!
Would be cool to see what you and Alex from MarzBar/TechFlow could put together. He has a nice smart home setup
Jake will make the way !! Please do not taint this channel with Alex :)
You look like Eric from "That '70s Show"! :D
You must know that you’re amazing
YAS
Going out on a limb here, but I think most of your fanbase is more interested in watching you interact with the real world professionally and socially.
You seem to have such a hard and difficult life having to battle with all these little annoyances 😞 I feel for you...
Hi my boy !
my god that's really interesting
it's much easier to roll over in bed and say 'hey siri, turn off the lights' before going to sleep than fiddling around with switches, or even getting out of bed. How much did you spend on your bulbs? the hue ones I got were like £10-15 or something...not expensive
Of course he graduated from Cambridge one of the best comp science school in the world so he is smart by default
0 dislikes, congrats!
I think Jake's got engaged secretly
Just do it
Hhmmm! So you are wearing the same brown T-shirt you were wearing a few months ago when filming the first video.
Jake! I saw you in the London pride parade with monzo
1st
.
You should have got a Google home
Nice bisexual bulbs
😒😒😒
It's pointless
