  • Today we go for the Ferrari belt. The cam belt that is! Work starts on the cheap Ferrari 308 GTB tearing things down and installing new cam belts! Stay tuned for the next video, where we install a new water pump, and start buttoning things up, getting closer to getting this Italian stallion back on the road.

I’m enjoying the content. Looks like you might need some new rear control arm bushings in the future.

Good eye! They are on the to do list once it is up and running again.

Hey man. Good to see a video of this. Yours is the first as far as I'm aware. Having said that, I did this job four years ago on my own 308 and, I have to say, you've missed out a lot of the hard parts!! Where is the part where you "chicken wing" yourself, trying to untension and unbolt the AC compressor? OK that's kind of funny but, more seriously, it is CRITICAL to meticulously record and retain the EXACT locations of the thin shimming washers that are on the AC mounting bolts. They are critical to the alignment of the AC belt. If that belt is even a little bit out, it makes the most godawful noise until the engine is well and truly warmed up.

Thanks! I actually put the compressor back on in the next video. It was indeed a tricky thing to fit back in, which is funny because it wasn't that hard to get out. Mine actually did not have any shims to adjust the in/out location of it when I took it off, and it had not been making any noise prior to disassembly. Mine is a new Sanden compressor. I know on F Chat there was a discussion about the fitment differences between the Sanden and York, maybe that is why.

Timing belts are the weak link of most modern cars. Why can't they make kevlar timing belts that last longer?

Definitely agreed. Although timing chain guides are equally as bad.
