all this has made me realize is how good of a guy the dev is. he literally made a game with the satisfaction of a slot machine and then made it essentially free. if he were any less ethically sound, he would’ve filled the game with microtransactions and p2w
Northernlion also kicked it off for me like for many. I remember he played on library and asked chat how to evolve Fire Wand. I didn't expect much out of the game but thought it could be a good filler. Well, that filler lead to over 300 videos and 1000+ hours in the game :D
Weird bit of trivia: The online learning game Blooket has a mode based on this game called Monster Brawl. Much of the mode's mechanics are taken from Vampire Survivors.
Vampire Survivors is definitely one of my top games of the year. On release; my friends and I would tell each other the weapon combinations and try and come up with "the best builds for runs." Although I can see the argument for being more addicting than slots; once you know the weapon combinations and get enough points to skip or reroll chest items; there is no gambling aspect because chests dont do anything besides drop money after you complete a build. The way I played was to see how many achievements I could get per run. but as they keep updating the game they kept adding more and more achievements; which is a good thing! this is definitely a fun game and love the Castlevania easter eggs
I have a ton of time in Magic Survival on my phone and instantly recognized the influence when the video started. I can't believe this tiny Slavic indie mobile game inspired a twitch top 30. Crazy stuff.
Magic survival is such a goated game, I wish it had a version on steam instead of being exclusive to mobile. If they had done that it may have been the subject of this video instead of a short mention for the idea of the game.
It's fascinating how, if this game was free-to-play with in-app purchases for item loot boxes and battle passes or whatever, it would likely be the scummiest thing since snake oil, but since there's just an upfront cheap price and the game is otherwise only harmful to your time, it's just a cool game that uses the power of casino theatrics for good! Well, maybe not ″good,″ per say, but it's not evil, and that's great!
Already has but poncle wants to root them out with a fairly monetized port of the game he still working on how to fit the dlc on mobile he has a team working on ports like Xbox and mobile devices
So is addicting because it just keeps rewarding you more and more? Then it is like Cookie Clicker which is just satisfactory to see getting better and better at getting more and increasing those numbers on screen exponentially. I guess I felt something like that when starting on The Binding of Isaac in the form of achievements, unlocking like 10 things per run even if I lost just felt awesome, even tho it stopped giving me that many rewards.
In a way, yes. It rewards you with currency to unlock other things but also with power via characters, temporary upgrades (as in they're gone at the end of a run) and permanent upgrades, as well as lots of secrets and such. The constant climb of power in a run is very BOI like as well. As you saw above you can start off with a simple knife and by the end you can be clearing the screen with massive laser beams and giant axes. When you first start playing, the end-of-run boss that kills you seems unbeatable but after a few dozen runs, killing him can be pretty much effortless. That combined with how good it can feel to just mow down enemies is what makes it a great game to just throw on and have a run through to relax.
@@PetrichorB What? Did they add a bunch to it or something? when I played it I dont think it took that long to get through. I just played through it absent mindedly in-between getting work done on my other monitor lol
I don't know if I should be happy for being stickler about my graphics and gameplay. I looked at it and all the variations of the game and knew I wouldn't get into it. Good for Luca becoming successful and may others enjoy the game.
You'd think a guy with a background in gambling would make a microtransaction filled garbage game. Sure the game is still predatory with the addictive elements of slot machines but youre not pumping tons of money into it like other games that are "free".
IMO, a boring ass game. May be it's addicting to somebody but it's not a great rogue-like game and not even a good game at all. It's nice and it deserves attention as a browser flash game that displays some ad in main menu or something like that but not as a desktop game that costs money
its 3 bucks with cheap DLC, and manages to get the gameflow just right, with a good variation of unlocks, secrets, and challanges. ive only played it a few times, but i totally see why others enjoy it. I may never play it again, but it for sure isnt a bad game. its just not your taste (it not my cup of tea either XD).
Because of the easy fast rewards as explained, that's how I feel whenever I see those golden coins and gems and shit on slot machines, they feel so generic and exaggerated they are unappealing to me, but the truth is they appeal to lots of people, and that's how this game got a following of people who mindlessly like to look at flashy lights and getting rewards. Why do you think many phone games give you an overwhelming amount of rewards for breathing? To catch your attention.
I like how in this predatory industry one slot machine engineer made a one time payment 3 dollar slot sim just for fun
instead of paying with money, you pay with your time lol

I enjoy games with loot systems immensely and 3:18 is the most accurate depiction of getting a rare drop I've ever seen

Played it the whole night, said just one more run.
Quit.
Went to prepare for bed, watch a video... Watched this video.
Now i go and play again.

>I'm only just now hearing about it
Guys, I'm starting to think I'm no longer hip
Considering the top game is Fortnite, I'm glad I'm not.
Same...
Vampire Survivor is proof of Bushnell's Law.
Found the game through Northernlion and the inserted segment about the oven is very iconic, thank you so much for including it
Northernlion gets me to buy around 50% of all games I play.

Quick edit. You only get the chests that may upgrade only show up after you kill a big enemy and not after a level up
Vampire Survivors is definitely one of the games of all time.

Vtubers liked this game so much, fans made a version of this for the Vtubers
I wish I was an brainless moron with a gambling problem so I could enjoy this slop as much as its fans.
Flappy Bird : "Oh thats cute, son."
Crimsonland was also super addictive. And it doesn't have half the systems this game has (from what you've shown). No wonder it's super addicting. :D
i‘ve been on that game right from the start
3:14 and then you get TWO EVOLUTIONS!!
Yeah, I bought it on Switch last week, couldn't you tell?
XD
The music slaps hard, but not enough people talk about that aspect.
This game is dropping like fentanyl right now
6:27 Annnnndd now Vampire Survivors is BAFTA's game of the year
Great outro music
There’s no way this game could run on NES.
Let's just hope it isn't gonna be copied by other devs and make it P2W or something shady like that.
this is design is already flooding the mobile market. T_T
Blizzard dev already making notes

In The Final outro? Based.
What is the outro?
I've never heard of this game.

This is a great game and we love it!
Gameplay reminds me of i made a game with zombies
Thanks for the vid
Bro this dev stole my username 😮
Jkjk. Good video. I might actually try this game
So this is why all the mobile game ads now look like this. :0
Yes, I'm a human and I like mindlessly killing things.
I hate that people make games so addictive..
Idk personally it doesent really catch me. But thats just me.
I appreciate the funny editing☺
Are we now doing full-length videos as ads? Cmon bruv
Is this the game inspire HOLOCURE (HOLOLIVE) ??
do they related or something?
It was played a lot by Hololive members and inspired Holocure. But that's pretty much where the relation ends.

Errrrrrrrrr..... Castlevania Pachinko? BY konami
I like 20 Minutes till Dawn a lot better
Do The Last of Us multiplayer
truuuuuuuuuu
It gets old pretty fast though.

Eh I think it was game of the year, maybe edged out by Elden Ring but that was not as original.
i thought this game is gambling and is pay to win
Nah it's fine, it's not *actually* a predatory game.
I was about to say this is a copy of Magic Survival but it's was inspired by it xD. I'm going to go play that tho. Bye bye

I’ll never understand how people can play or like these kinds of games. They look so bad and the gameplay is super repetitive and boring.

Its simple and satisfying. Sometimes that's all a game needs to be.
It’s simply called having fun.
That is your opinion. Good graphics doesn't mean its a good game. Look how many shit AAA games are flying around with great visuals and nothing else.
