  • The 2014 Linhai Big Horn 400 UTV died in my front Paddock during its first time out. Given that the carburetor was not inspected, we do that first in this video, and it was one of the cleanest that I have ever inspected! Given the continued no start situation, the portable 12VDC Capacitive Discharge Ignition was wired up, after a spark plug change and some harness wire rearrangement, it started and ran again. It still needs some more attention to run at its full potential.

Exactly right, not consistent runners. That's why you see them resold all the time, or put up for resale within months of purchase and glad when it's gone. Inexpensive compared to brand names but how could you put a price on aggravation? No matter how little my time is worth on the open market, my free time is priceless to me. After shoveling and cleaning off both trucks, I went in the shed, hopped on a 4wd, turned the key and rode around the property in the snow for almost an hour. No wondering or drama, just fun. Talk soon Harvey.

I bought a chinese quad for my son, lots of dicking around to keep it running. I guess im a glutton for punishment as i just traded my neighbor excavating for one of these and a JD gator. The linhai hasnt run for a couple of years, but it only has 133 miles on it . Another project!

I just bought this exact same UTV on Dec 26, 2022. Same year model too. It only has 268 miles on it and was garage kept and owned by a 70+ yr older. What I'm learning is the carburetor is the most painful issue I've had in a whole on Chinese off-road vehicles. It sputters at low rpms and once you touch the gas, it runs nicely. Drive it for 15 mins at half throttle and it will flood put when you stop and WILL NOT start back up till the plug dries off. This tells me it's still running rich. I'm going to lean out the mixture again but last time I did that it starved for fuel. Carb is crystal clean and factory jet sizes. I'm thinking I will run a DR7EA plug which is one step hotter. I had to do this in a Yamaha YTR110 dirt bike my son had a few years ago and also drilled a 1" hole in airbox and put a snap in airbox filter to tune in the A/F mix just right. Has anyone bought another brand replacement carburator that worked beautifully on these Linhai 400s?

I have tried a honda hornet 1998-2003 keihin 34 cvk carb. (It required several plugs in the connection holes) it fits hardly original intake hose(if is new and soft, old one was rigid). Obtaind very good start and very good idle and not enaugh gas for main jet. (Original honda jets have been used), only main jet fits between those carbs. In order to perform further test there are several modifications that needs to be performed for this this hornet carb. I took the easy way and orderd new chinese carb wich i'm honestly not expecting to work, but to use it as a donnor for the original carb which is japonese.
Anyway, think if anyone can get a keihin cvk 34(from a single cylinder) and a set of jets may worth to try. It fits intake, air filter and acceleration can be easly improvised to fit. Choke is different in size, and mine was rod driven while on my quad is cable driven this conversion require mor work, an original cable drive choke would be prefferable.
This test confirmed me that is a carburator issue i'm dealling with.

Hey Harvey I am having some trouble so I have this 110cc atomik dune buggy thing, and it won’t start in neutral and cranking, we always end up having to push start it in gear which is always annoying and probably isn’t the best for the engine, do u think you may have a idea on what’s wrong

Harvey I had one of those similar to that had two problems with it one the exhaust clogged up so I had to replace the muffler you wouldn't believe how much that affected the power it went from crappy too I got at least 10 more miles per hour after I put a different muffler on it too the water pumps break the impeller don't know why but it doesn't pump water through the engine and they tend to overheat what I did to pull the return hose off of the head start to engine up mine didn't pump a drop of water out....

The electrical systems on these Chinese atv/utv's are shoddy. Crimp connections and wire gage are substandard. Very easy to lose connection or have high resistance. One could take the time to solder all the crimped connections but something else will end up giving you trouble.

The biggest piece of crap on the market, I had one and it did the exact same thing, had it for a year and I gave it to my neighbor kid, he put a chineese diesel motor on it and it's been running ever since 🤨

Throw a real engine in there, from a snowmobile. Or sell it to me for $700. :D
