There are games where nothing works. We had a very good day, and you had a very bad day. That's football. Don't hang your heads. The result does not correspond to your true strength. Good luck for the next games with your great fans. Many greetings from Dortmund. 💛🐝💛 💚🍀💚
I was in Dortmund last night and loved every minute of being in the company of my fellow Celtic supporters. So many of them made insane journeys across Europe and then buses and trains to Dortmund. Thats what upset me yesterday is that we need a Celtic manager to make these games Contests at the very least. Dortmund fans on Social media were saying that nobody in the Bundesliga would have set-up so open and attacking like that at the Signal Iduna apart from maybe Bayern. That to me says it all and Dortmund players themselves said they were shocked by how open Celtic were. We should put Engles and Callum as 2 number 6s and ask them to block, stop and distribute then we need a slightly deeper back line and then we needed to be very compact. It was wonderful meeting so many Celtic fans but we need these games to become Contests.
When we, Rangers, played BD a few seasons ago, we played well, got our tactics right, they had two goals rightly disallowed by VAR for offside but that was close and also Halaand was injured. We had luck too. Celtic, not for the first time under Rodgers, were tactically naive, going head to head and playing open against a very strong side. In these circumstances it’s better to play defensively, although it still could have been a heavy defeat.
Excellent analysis, Quinny. I really did not expect us to get much from this game, but I did expect us to compete for a lot of the match. Dortmund were very good and took full advantage of our countless errors. I think they sat off us in the second half because the match was over as a spectacle. Hail Hail.
Im just gonna say it Idiotic tactics from Rodgers, look at Arsenal away at Atalanta they treated the Italians with caution and defended as a team not piling forward with no one in midfield

@@ajsctech8249 Not gonna happen under Rodgers like Ange before him ,he's deluded in thinking you can play the likes of Dortmund as we would approach an away game v St Johnstone. Rodgers said he had a point to prove in Europe when he came back, well he's proved he does not learn. Rodgers is the wrong manager to improve our fortunes in Europe.
Great analysis. Love it. I just wonder why the very well paid manager of the club can not. He keeps talking about,‘let’s see what we’ve learned from past campaigns’. He should be saying that while looking in the mirror.
At last I've found a Celtic RUclips contributor that is interesting to listen to and has a bit of savvy. Subscribed and looking forward to more. Personally, I think for the Dortmund match, players like Kyogo and Khun are a waste. We should play 5 - 4 - 1 or 4 - 4 -1 -1 with Maeda up front for his speed. No wingers. Use the full backs to attack, but perhaps have 3 centre backs or if not, 2 defensive midfielders, which is a position lacking in this team.
Our win percentage in CL away games is 5.1%, that is why I do not expect much, certainly don't expect to win. Last night was as mentioned like watching an amateur team. You have to ask did all the players understand what they were meant to be doing. How Rodgers never seen that result coming after ten minutes is unbelievable, he should have changed it and made it more compact.
I'm gutted about that performance, imagine how the players feel when they had the chance to affect things & failed spectacularly. Still these are the types of results, teams & games that stimulate growth. If the players are never exposed to that kind of pressure how are they ever going to develop the required ability to handle it. I'm raging at the individual & collective performance, they can do much better than that.
Went totally off Rodgers. He's just a cheesy bullshitter who makes out he speaks Spanish. He knows a few phrases. Him saying he will not change his tactics in Europe done it for me.
Valle potentially looked better because the hatrick player had gone off along with three other players, also the game was 5-1 and Dortmund knew the game was won. Maybe you should send this video to Rodgers as he seems clueless when it comes to playing better teams.😄
Sorry for dropping a 3rd comment lol but I wanted to ask, how difficult is it for the players to switch to a different way of playing only for these kind of UCL games? I see people talk about playing in a completely different way rather then smaller tweaks and I was wondering is it even feasible to try and play in a way we have 0 experience with?
great analysis, if i can mention a few things though, net xg margin for the game was around .6 in dortmunds favour . that usually means 70% probability of dortmund winning by 1 goal or a draw, so 7,1 was an outlier result, and all down to kennedys and rodgers pressing tactics as you rightly point out. pressing with just 5 , the 3 forwards and mids , if celtic dont get the turnover ,dortmund 1 pass away from outnumbering or overloading celtic in transition , and thats what happened . what worked against bratislava wont work against adeyemi and co. to make matters worse , adeyemi generally has a floating role , but dortmund did there homework and set adeyemi up against taylor , it was frightening to watch . they also did there homework on kennedys press , and decided they could handle celtic with 5/6 defence and put 3/4 up against the shoulders of the celtic backs . again it was a nightmare to watch . in an alternative universe this is what celtic could have done , either celtic go all 10 man on man press , and not give dortmund the out ball , but dortmunds indiviual billiance would win that arguement, or celtic have to do wha the rest of the spfl do to it , run a soft press with phased retreat to a mid to low block . in practice, you would have maeda and kyogo, harassing the dortmund backs when dortmund have the ball, but not too much, just enough to slow down the transition , while they also retreat, and the rest of the mids retreat at mid speed to a blocking pattern , and you would set the block up as a 451. 4 at the back, and 5 in the front line , to make sure celtic have enough bodies in the middle of the block. to stop adeyemis left foot, and when celtic get a turnover , kyogo and meada hair off down the paddock for along ball over the top . falkirk used 451 against celtic to great affect until they ran out of legs. aberdeen used similar tactics last season to good effect which brings me to another point , celtic didnt use the long ball option enough, because trying to transition on dortmund and turning over the ball can be fatal. celtic lost the ball 14 times , 11 in their own half. celtic had to force a scenario where dortmund continually had to build slower from the back , an celtic maintain the defensive shape the great shame about all this is, a bit better game management iq by the manager and coach , could have made it a very tricky night for dortmund i could go on, but that will do for today, keep up the great work

Borrussia done there homework.. And had the firepower to execute the plan.. They played to there strengths and so did we play to there strengths because there coach got it spot on.. But its one game
Enjoyed the video and im subscribed. I think the game plan was wrong from the start and the Bhoys started playing nervous after the 2nd goal against and just completely lost their shape. You canae do that and hope to survive especially against a tremendous team that has spends 5 times as much as You. I expected a loss but not a slaughter hopefully this will ground the Bhoys and they learn from their mistakes. I think Valley and Kasper were the only 2 who played half decent.
Quinny: I too am of the opinion that you offer much more content than other pod casts that appear to be comedy related or providing next to nothing (Pub chatter) with any real analysis. People suggest ‘pragmatic’ without defining or showing (teaching) defending. I would like to add that if at all I disagree with you on two small points re: ratings on McGregor and Scales. Firstly, McGregor floated as you indicated in the middle of the field marking nobody. He should have been goal side and tight on Brandt immediately. This instruction was required with all of the players. With reference to both midfielders Engels and Bernardo. Were they assigned to mark Gross and Can? Watching this outcome, I state ‘No they were not!’ because both the manager and the on-field captain allowed this shape to persist. This is on Rodgers and McGregor. I captained a team called Elizabeth S.C. we won the U. S. Open Cup and then went on to tie the Mexican champions Cruz Azul 0 - 0 in Union, New Jersey. One of my roles was to ensure that every on-field player is fulfilling his defensive responsibility. More importantly, if a change was required then I would make that call. McGregor is a supposed veteran and should have changed that shape immediately without Rodgers's approval. Rodgers although coaching Liverpool, Leicester etc. he never played at the top level. As for Scales did, he do his homework on the Dortmund forward players? No! He did not and was he not given Guirassy’s tendencies on the field of play. Guirassy is a right footed player, he shaped to go left on his goal then went right, and Scales dove in like a schoolboy. However, just before that he was guilty of ball watching on a simple 1 - 2 pass at midfield. Frankly, he looked inept and lost in his defensive role as did many of his teammates.
I have to disagree with the analysis on Trusty. I think he is playing a side of defence, which is abnormal to him and yes I will agree he wasnt great yesterday but he is also on a side of defence he isn't use to think he will be come good once he gets use to it

It shows clearly that we need to stop focusing on how much money we gave and actually use it to replace players who can’t cut it at this level, both in terms of class and worryingly temperament. They collapsed and it was utterly pathetic. Atalanta will tell us everything we need to know. Another bottle crashing cave in and high scoring skudding means January’s window, will demand about £40m spent. I will put this down to a terrible night, another massacre and sure we can win at home, but, with over £100m to play with, the team needs class for Europe. If we had no money, fine. We do. Use it so our support don’t need to suffer being a complete laughing stock. We not only have far too many of these disasters, we never learn. Big fly in the ointment is our board. They seem happy to participate. We aren’t. Invest our money in the players who will allow us to actually enjoy the CL. An utter shambles.

Unacceptable that Rodgers didnt change it at 3-1. Rodgers was schooled by a rookie manager.

pressing with just 5 , the 3 forwards and mids , if celtic dont get the turnover ,dortmund 1 pass away from outnumbering or overloading celtic in transition , and thats what happened . what worked against bratislava wont work against adeyemi and co.
to make matters worse , adeyemi generally has a floating role , but dortmund did there homework and set adeyemi up against taylor , it was frightening to watch . they also did there homework on kennedys press , and decided they could handle celtic with 5/6 defence and put 3/4 up against the shoulders of the celtic backs . again it was a nightmare to watch .
in an alternative universe this is what celtic could have done ,
either celtic go all 10 man on man press , and not give dortmund the out ball , but dortmunds indiviual billiance would win that arguement, or celtic have to do wha the rest of the spfl do to it , run a soft press with phased retreat to a mid to low block .
in practice, you would have maeda and kyogo, harassing the dortmund backs when dortmund have the ball, but not too much, just enough to slow down the transition , while they also retreat, and the rest of the mids retreat at mid speed to a blocking pattern , and you would set the block up as a 451. 4 at the back, and 5 in the front line , to make sure celtic have enough bodies in the middle of the block. to stop adeyemis left foot, and when celtic get a turnover , kyogo and meada hair off down the paddock for along ball over the top .
falkirk used 451 against celtic to great affect until they ran out of legs. aberdeen used similar tactics last season to good effect
which brings me to another point , celtic didnt use the long ball option enough, because trying to transition on dortmund and turning over the ball can be fatal. celtic lost the ball 14 times , 11 in their own half. celtic had to force a scenario where dortmund continually had to build slower from the back , an celtic maintain the defensive shape
