  • Mike Felger shares his hot take for the week: the Patriots will never trade for or pay a legitimate number one wide receiver and have only done so accidentally over the last 40 years. Then, Greg Bedard joins Felger and Michael Holley to debate that take and discuss what New England will do at the position going forward.

    Felger is absolutely RIGHT! I hate to say it because his hot takes suck, but he is right. Jonathan and the old man will never pay a WR top of the market contract. They wouldn’t pay the best QB in the history of the league a top of the market contract

  • @thousand1225
    @thousand1225 Месяц назад +7

    The Patriots were 100% targeting a #1 receiver when they traded for Randy Moss. Brady knew he wasn't actually washed and was pounding the table for him. Just because they didn't pay over market price for a player doesn't mean they didn't value him more internally. If you think the Bills were ever going to trade their Pro Bowl caliber #1 receiver to a divisional rival, I don't understand how you have a platform to speak about football. The Patriots weren't in on Diggs because they would've been required to pay well above asking to account for the interdivisional trade "tax". You're right that the Patriots will never make a Tyreek Hill trade, because it makes no sense to do that until the roster is better. Blowing up your draft capital for a stud player is only a good move if you're trying to compete right now, and don't care as much about the future. If the Patriots even tried to operate like that, every single person in the building should be fired

    • @DSlav2488
      @DSlav2488 Месяц назад +1

      But that's his whole point. They traded for Moss because he was cheap. And to be fair, he was a #1 receiver, but that was almost 20 years ago and he wasn't here long.
      Felger's point is accurate and true. They haven't drafted and developed a #1 receiver since Terry Glenn. And that was before belichick even got here. They have drafted several receivers high in the draft but NONE of them have come even remotely close to working out.
      How can you possibly argue against that? That's just a fact. And again, moss was only here for like 3 years.

      This has to be one of the worst takes I keep hearing “ we don’t have good players so don’t even try to improve the team”…ok so just be 3-14 for the next 2 decades then or??….. at some point you have to start putting ACTUAL talent on the field if you want to win games.. I don’t think any reasonable person was expecting them to trade a bunch of picks or give someone an absurd contract, but can at least try to maybe attack one position of need?? We literally have taken the most mediocre option at every position in FA from the coaching staff on down and you just had a HISTORICALLY bad offense🤦‍♂️

    Is it just me or has Felger had particularly bad takes this draft season? "Pats will never get a #1 receiver." "Don't draft a QB at #3 because historically QBs taken there haven't worked out." I'd love to see him as a GM of a team, just because I think the dumpster fire he'd create would be so amusing to watch. No player would ever be evaluated on skill or developmental potential. Hed base his draft board 100% on what history says is the best position to take at each draft spot.
