These little trains are so light that they can go over very rough and misaligned track. The national rail network, KAI, is maintained to a much higher level and their trains would derail if their tracks were maintained like this. I really wish I could go back in time and see these little railroads here in the United States. As far as I can tell, there is only one of these sugar cane railroads operating in the United States and it is in the State of Florida. US Sugar owns and operates the South Central Florida Express, which hauls other traffic besides sugar cane and was converted to standard guage long ago. The other sugar cane railway lines are all gone and trucks are what haul the traffic.

A know it costs money but if they did maintenance on the rails and bed n put fresh ballast down it would make the ride n trip smoother faster and better n it would be alot better on the engine and cars too

Ducrolinde, a company from the Netherlands which sold light railway equipment until 1958 in Indonesia, so that must be how old this locomotive is at least. Nice to see it still in operation and in a relatively good state as well. I also noticed that a lot of words describing the operation of the locomotive are from the Dutch (Nederlands) language, like 'rem', 'gas' and 'koppeling'. This may be due to the fact that the Dutch introduced railways, machinery and motor vehicles in Indonesia and these words were simply taken over into Malayan and other languages of Indonesia.

Du Croo & Brauns, later Ducrolinde NV (PT Ducrolinde / De Volharding Surabaya) was a Dutch/Indonesian firm that was licensed to build Schöma locomotives, they were built and sold across SE-Asia. A couple of the Ducrolinde locomotives have returned to Holland this year, to a narrow gauge museum, in exchange for helping the Indonesians taking care and restoring their remaining stock of Ducrolinde locomotives.
Maintain those rails better, use a brush hog cutter, and clear the crap off those rails and you might not have derailments. That whole operation looks like an accident waiting to happen!

Have you ever considered a steel plow or ripper tooth to bolt just in front of the wheels to help remove asphalt rather than just running over it when crossing roads? Maybe something that could be raised when not in use. It would help a lot when the pavement is thickly covering the rail.

memang seperti itu tuas remnya. memang mirip, tapi bukan dari tuas wesel rel. bahkan di loko uap yang memakai rem sistem tuas(bukan putar) tuasnya hampir semua seperti itu.
Not concerned with how they do things, if it works for them - which it obviously does - then fair play. Railways are never 100^ safe. But there *really* needs to be some MAJOR track maintenance. Weed cutting, clearance, new ballast, fixed switched, the lot.

Du Croo & Brauns, later Ducrolinde NV (PT Ducrolinde / De Volharding Surabaya) was a Dutch/Indonesian firm that was licensed to build Schöma locomotives, they were built and sold across SE-Asia. A couple of the Ducrolinde locomotives have returned to Holland this year, to a narrow gauge museum, in exchange for helping the Indonesians taking care and restoring their remaining stock of Ducrolinde locomotives.
Another misleading title. The train does not cross the highway. It did cross in the past, before the tracks were paved over.
Maintain those rails better, use a brush hog cutter, and clear the crap off those rails and you might not have derailments. That whole operation looks like an accident waiting to happen!

I think the tracks need some care in removing the debris and weed whacking the grass.
derailments have always been frequent on this type of industrial railway. I can remember seeing a sand railway in Britain where the tippers were often off the track.

Have you ever considered a steel plow or ripper tooth to bolt just in front of the wheels to help remove asphalt rather than just running over it when crossing roads? Maybe something that could be raised when not in use. It would help a lot when the pavement is thickly covering the rail.

the road contractor closed the tracks without confirmation, because the asphalt was still new (wet) the locomotive and workers had to open it, subtitles available.
The use of tools such as plows has been used to clear grass or soil, but it is impossible to plow asphalt. However, this tool failed, because the rail had to be straight first, otherwise... the plow would create new problems. Please note that this is a sugar cane train, short distance, and not fast. different from the passenger train here which is very nice and fast.
