  • The Hallstatt culture is considered by many historians and archaeologists as one of the first Celtic or Proto-Celtic cultures. Several valuable discoveries have been made all around central Europe during the Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age. From ''kingly'' swords and daggers to elaborate artifacts and fortresses, the findings of the Hallstatt Culture reveal that even from their early stages, the Celts were not as ''barbaric'' as many previously thought.

    Im from Upper Austria and on my dna test I got „27% Irish, Scottish and Welsh”. I investigated my family tree to find who came from the British Isles, I traced my dad's side back to 1798 and my mom's side back to 1822 and found no ancestors from the British Isles. I've come to the conclusion that the 27% comes from Germanized celts

    I am Brazilian and I was Celtic in a previous life. I found that out in a way that is hard to believe. A long time ago I bought a CD with Celtic songs on. The CD was sealed in a plastic cover at the store. I had no idea what music or songs I would listen to when it played. I arrived home and put the CD on to play. All of a sudden, my living room became crowded with Celtic spirits. They move around in a flippant way and "danced" around me, whirling around and touching me. I was very taken aback. They put a shoulder protection on my shoulders and on my chest and started playing with me. Until they finally crowned me. I "saw" all that with my third eye. But it was obvious to me that they were celebrating our encounter. I felt very comfortable and happy. But started wondering how in the world I could ever share this experience with anyone. No way I would be taken seriously. But that did happen. I know I was Celtic in a previous life. I went to Ireland in 2013 and met many familiar people. I found Ireland quite tacky though. It looked old-fashioned. Unfortunately, I did not see the Celtic spirituality well preserved in Irish culture today. The country's vibration was anything but spiritual. I was very disappointed. The Celts were highly spiritual.

    I once read somewhere that the Romans had mistaken the separate Germanic camps as different peoples and called some Celtic and some camps Germanic. I'd like to see others comments as to whether anyone else has ever read anything like that anywhere

    • @Thor-Orion
      @Thor-Orion 5 месяцев назад +2

      The term Germanic actually meant something along the lines of “true blooded original celts.” The Romans had a difficult time differentiating between the celts and the Germanics because of certain physical affinities shared between the groups. And the fact that both Germanic and Celtic peoples were much taller than the average Roman (with Roman men averaging about 5’5”-5’7” and Celtic men averaging between 5’9”-6’1” most being ~5’11”, while Germanic men were averaging around 5’8”-6’, with most being ~5’10”. Both Celtic and Germanic men regularly broke 6’ tall and this was extremely rare for “Roman” men. Then you add the blonde/red/reddish-brown hair that was so common with celts and Germanics and the light eyes, either blue or green also being very common with celts and Germanics. You can see how the differences could be missed amongst all these strong similarities in appearance) along with all the other similarities listed in the preceding parentheses, this lead to some conflation between the two lineages by the Romans. It’s why amongst lay people the pejoratives “barbarian” and “gothic” became widespread to describe anyone from north of the Italian Alps.
      And why even in the Byzantine court at the time of the Crusades, Anna Komnenos called all Western, Northern and even Central Europeans “celts.”

      @Thor-Orion 5 месяцев назад

      It’s likely red or orange salt, not actually brown. You can look up the various colors of salt; White, Grey, Red, Orange and Pink. And they all still exist and can be bought.
      There is a 7,000 year old salt mine in Hallstatt, Austria which you can still tour and such, there are two other salt mines in Salzburg (Hallein and Altaussee) which can also be toured, to my understanding.

    The Tartessian stelae carvings from South-West Iberia and Portugal have proved that the far Western Atlantic sea-board Celts were already here, long before the alleged Hallstatt and Le Tene migrations. In fact, the linguist Robert Koch amongst others, have deciphered the carvings. They prove to be the first recorded Celtic writing. Celtic from the South-West were already here.

      @@historicaladventurevideos the Golasecca culture is a pure ligurian culture of northern Italy and was not even influenced by the gallic hordes which raided northern Italy during the 300- 200 years a.D. French keltomans tried to annex the golasecca culture by charging the philologist Lejeune to try to " celtizise" the 200 Lepontic inscriptions.( Lepontica, Paris 1972).Lejeune failed but the celtophiles continue to try it.
      The Ληποντες were a branch of the Ligurians, the predominant population of northern Italy since tha last glaciation.
      The language of the lepontic inscriptions is preindoeuropean and is not traducible.
      What concerns the Hallstatt culture it is doubtfull if it is celtic or if it represents a new phase of the urnfield culture due to germanic penetration from the east. The denomination of Celtic Κελτοι means unknown, strange, and was meant for the barbars that inhabitated the unknown parts of Europa and does not allow an ethnic identification.
      Here the epicoric inscription found in Prestino near Como:
      UVAMOKOSIS: PLIALEΘU: UVLTIAUOPOS: ARIUONEPOS: SITEŚ: TETU
      The ligurian language had a special preference for diphtongs: OUVERBANOS ( Lake Verbano) OUVAROS : ( il Varo, Le Var) OUVFENTINOS (Name of the ligurian tribus Offentina), OURUMBOUIORUM the tribe of the Orobii from which the polygraphe Plinius priscus was a descendent.

    a lot of this information is sadly out of date it is derived from an British archeologist roughly 1830 who stated that the Celts had invaded Brittan from central France but more recent finds in Spain predate the formation of the halstatt / le teine "Celtic" complex rendering this model inert. While a new theory to replace this one has not been agreed upon yet several others are still in circulation such as Celtic from the west. or that it could have arrived with the bell beaker people as late Neolithic population replacement might suggest. Another argument that supports this theory is that resent studies on the DNA of ancient Celtic remains and their modern descendants suggests a ancient Spanish/Iberian origin which is incidentally where the bell beakers are from these could have been "proto-Celtic" people unfortunately they didn't leave any writing so we cant know for sure. All of this is a hotly debated topic in the archeological l community and should be taken with a massive dose of salt the only thing we can say for sure is that the older model displayed here s most likely false. That's science for you.

      I am familiar with these theories because one of my favorite writers on ancient Celtic history is Barry Cunliffe, and the formation of the first Celtic cultures, along with their spread, is a very interesting and complex topic indeed. However, I do not understand your comment stating that 'a lot of this information is sadly out of date' in reference to these theories. I never once implied in my video that Celtic culture was formed in Central Europe and expanded to the west. In fact, I was particularly careful when creating the video not to mention the actual origin of the Celts because we essentially don't know it yet; we only have theories. This video is simply dedicated to the first Celtic cultures of Central Europe; I never suggest that this is where they originated. Therefore, the information that is out of date, as you rightfully say, is not even included in the video.

    A bit disappointed by the intro: (1) there's no evidence that Celts expanded to the West/NW (i.e. to West France, Britain and Ireland) before the La Tène culture, in fact the opposite seems true rather. (2) As for the Iberian Celts and Golasecca, you're right but it should be explained that they descend from the Celto-Italic Urnfields culture and that the Iberian Celts at this stage did not live yet where you painted them but in Languedoc (France, probably at the root of the Arvernians, considered older than other Celts in the region), Catalonia and the Ebro Valley, expanding to the Northern Iberian Plateau precisely as they got Hallstatt influences (there was early Hallstatt in Iberia but not La Tène, and thus not druidism either).
    This last is something that most people don't understand because it's indeed a bit complicated, as when we reach historical times most of that area (most clearly Catalonia and Languedoc) had been recaptured by the Iberians. This expansion of the Iberian culture to that region happened c. 590 BCE, about when the Greeks were settling the area, a probably related phenomenon -- the Greeks probably found the Iberians very friendly, while Celts were much more aggressive and barbaric, so an alliance was born and the Iberian Celts, which had received Hallstatt influences already, had to pull inland. However by then they had already conquered much of the Northern Iberian Plateau (roughly modern Castile & León region) and from there they would still make some final pushes into Galicia, Extremadura and Alentejo (late expansion that ended c. 500 BCE).
