If they have shingles blowing off, I’ll put money on it that they were nailed wrong to begin with. I have done numerous winter installs and have never lost a shingle. I live in the Pocono mountains in Pennsylvania, where it gets extremely windy. Pay the contractor just hold back 5%, and be thorough when you read your contract

I use torpedo heater stack the bundles in a way that the heat gets to them with a tarp and a piece of plywood and looks like they were done in the summertime

Most shingles require sealant to be added during install if below a certain temperature. It’s right on the package. This is a bad install

In central Ohio I never install past November 13

Rent or buy a heat blower For a couple hundred dollars or less to seal shingles. That’s what my cousin does in Chicago when needed.

Brother, you said Certainteed is a great shingle with a great sealant? Ask any roofer working hurricane Milton in and around the Tampa area. 50-90% off blow offs we inspect each week are Certainteed!

They should be doing a cold weather installation method.

We won’t install until we get a few days above 50 degrees

In Nova Scotia, 5 degrees Celsius would be the coldest unless we see warm temperatures coming

Of the asphalt 6 brands commonly seen in Florida, the only one I’ve never seen a blow off from, is Atlas.

Contractors. If they don't seal in the summer; Good luck with the manufacturer paying for it. Hardly worth the time of dealing with them. Call the manufacturer, have leverage, (like a lot of sales and a good relationship with a rep), go handseal it, send a bill and wait... forever. Just be prepared, they don't actually care about you.

@@RoofingInsights3.0 yup, GAF , OC , etc ...none of them honor warranties. Whenever filing a claim they ask the customer to remove a shingle off the roof and mail it in... Add a customer has to pay for that to get done a customer has to endure what is roof being open until they make a decision and then when they deny it he's stuck with a roof open

Pay the roofer and just hold back 5% is fair shingles will not seal in cold I don’t install under 40 and always tell the homeowner the shingles will seal when weather is warmer and sunny
