      @@Wiintbsure, Ive was Jobs’ friend and the had a true sympatico on design, but Jobs picked Cook to become the CEO because Jobs knew Ive was NOT suited to run the company, make tough business decisions, and lead the company out of the mortgage depression.
      Jobs chose Cook because Cook already demonstrated overall leadership, shrewd supply chain and production management, and would balance design and operational teams, plus finishing Jobs vision for the Starship campus. It’s very possible Jobs gave Cook and management a 20 year roadmap of products and potential services, but Cook and team have been the ones to execute it and create it. Say what you will, but the Cook led Apple has grown, become much more valuable, and still leads in effective innovation for billions of people.
      Some Android makers may “innovate first”, but look at the numbers of people that actually buy that innovation and the numbers are comparable Apple vs Android when looking at the actual features and #’s sold. And there are many areas where Apple has innovated in its own (chip design, highly integrated software and hardware, creating and then partnering the manufacture of critical components), while Android makers had to rely on other companies (Qualcomm, TSMC, Google, Samsung Display) for much of their advancements.
      Samsung does a great job of innovating their tech and ideas, yet severely trails Apple iPhones in revenues, profits, and Premium market share. The only area Samsung leads is in unit sales (led mostly by midrange and low priced models) and even that is narrowing over the past 2 years. Yeah, they have the most Foldables, but Apple has chosen not to enter that still quite niche market - only 13.1M sold in 2022, Sammy has 80% of that market, about 10.5M sold, about as many as the best Note years, works out to 7.35M Flips, and only 3.15M Folds, a tiny number. Will they grow, sure, a bit, but in today’s current environment, much less than some have projected, like 19M total for 2023. IMO, Foldables will have a tough time growing beyond 16-17M in 2023.

      So would you do assembly work as millions do for $10 an hour here in the US? No? How about $12.50? Still no?
      If Apple were to establish assembly factories in the US, in all of the lowest State mandated minimum wage states, do you realize they allow workers to be paid, wow, $7.25/hr!!, unfortunately on par with housekeepers, dishwashers, farm workers, and other “unskilled labor” areas. How many “Americans” in those states choose those jobs and keep them? yeah, that’s where migrant and many foreign born workers go because they WILL work for that wage while most Americans will NOT, saying it’s not enough. That’s why some progressive and higher employment states like California mandate a “liveable” minimum wage of $15.00/hr, and that’s not enough for most either, no matter where you live.
      Then there’s the matter of how many workers you need - the Foxconn factory in Shenzhou has over 300,000 workers in one giant factory. Is there any state where 300,000 semi-skilled workers can be found, supported, and work 8-12 hrs/day for minimum wage in the US? No, most American workers would demand to be paid a lot more.
      Face it, labor costs in other parts of the world are much lower because they have BILLIONS of people, whereas the US has only 360M total, and about 2/3 of that at working age. Our labor force right now is mostly employed, and much higher wage than manufacturing can or will pay. That’s why almost 1/2-2/3 of all the non-food goods AMERICA buys (from Walmart, Amazon, Target, Home Depot/Lowes, etc., Best Buy, clothing stores) comes from outside the US - because All the suppliers including US Based companies need cheaper labor to keep prices lower to be competitive in the US. Sure, some will say BUY USA only and will pay more, but I GUARANTEE you most will not and buy the cheapest they can find for non-critical items, and even critical ones - ALL ANDROID smartphones and electronics even Samsungs, are made in Far East countries like China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Korea, India, where labor is much cheaper because they have more people living at much lower standards of living, it’s just a reality.
      So don’t buy Apple if you don’t want to support an American company employing over 120,000 US based employees who design, create and manage Apple’s products and business, plus over 270 physical US Apple Stores, but does assemble most all their products overseas so the costs can be better - and yes, shouldn’t an American company make a profit? That capitalism, right? People can and do decide if it’s worth it to them and they make the buying decision. Remember, you do get what you pay for.

      While that’s true, and Apple’s iPhone 14 and now 15 are easier to disassemble and repair (cheaper too), Apple iPhones already last 5-6+ years. You may have heard Apple users had lengthened their ownership to 4+ years on average before upgrading, so those iPhones are still working. The refurbished smartphone market is dominated by iPhones because even 7 year old iPhones (iPhone 7, 7+) are still working and iOS supported with current iOS 16, very unlike Android where Android support for mid and low price tiers dies after 2 years (planned obsolescence), and if you’re lucky to buy newest premium Androids, they finally have come around to chase Apple support policies and are now supporting OS upgrades for 3-4 years, wow! Plus until very recently, the OS updates took 3-6 months to roll out. No wonder Android OS fragmentation is still a huge problem, with most Androids still on 2-3-4 year old versions behind latest Android 12. Meanwhile Apple iOS gets 70-85% update adoption within 2-4 months.

    • @stevenwymor1398
      @stevenwymor1398 Год назад +5

      Not necessarily. When Apple repairs your iPhone, they handle all the resultant e-waste appropriately. Most end users simply do not and throw the broken parts in the trash which winds up leaching into the environment. The end user does not need to repair their own iPhone. It just needs to be repairable by someone with the requisite skill set and tools. You can now borrow some of those repair tools from Apple, but they do not provide any training on their use. Either buy AppleCare or pay Apple to repair it or take it to an authorized repair center. In addition, most aftermarket parts are substandard counterfeit garbage and will likely not work to the original iPhone standards. If you buy an expensive device, you should assume that repairing it to a high standard will have a cost. Otherwise get yourself a burner flip phone and stop complaining.

      I must disagree because capitalism has allowed large corporations buy our Representatives, Senators and Presidents and they are leading us into fascism. The GOP wants to rule us not represent us. I am truly worried about our democracy since the Supreme Court allowed donations from companies to our government.

      Exactly. It's depressing watching tankies blabber on about how all corporations are evil and we must end capitalism. While some corporations are certainly evil, we are well into a new era were successful companies will lead the way with clean energy, good jobs, opportunities for everyone, environmental sustainability, etc.

    Where man builds cities, they become hot spots around the world, contributing to the very thing Apple opposes - Climate change. In building and using so much land for solar power, how have the temperatures changed in those areas? Increases in heat is bad for the overall environment, and that land which formerly supported life in the wild, natural life, has now become unfriendly to such in a way similar to building dams and killing off fish and other life dependent of the flow of water. Carbon neutral sounds nice, but even Mother Nature knows carbon dioxide is necessary for photosynthesis. Solar nay reduce carbon dioxide by not producing any of it during use, but how much CO2 is made during the mining, manufacturing, transportation, and recycling of those items? Are we better off with less CO2 but more man-made hot zones?

    In claiming Apple believes in "treating everyone with dignity and respect", how does that work out for persons who cannot speak or defend themselves, and for people of views Apple does not agree with? Does everyone have a right to free say their own opinion regardless of how controversial the subject? Does Apple terminate contracts and apps because they allow their users a different degree of free speech?
    When considering the demolition of a building, if there's any doubt about a person being inside the building, do you just continue to blow up the building? What is Apple's view on treating the unborn with dignity and respect? If there's any doubt of a life being present, you must abort the option of abortion until you can definitely know there is no person present. Person's come in all sizes due to the natural course of life, and there are many stages of life we all go through. Protecting and treating babies with dignity and respect happens even for the stages of life when the person is helpless, so with the natural biological process of humans having children via women who get pregnant, we know that the babies are the result of those pregnancies and the lives are just earlier stages. Does Apple support avoiding abortion by using other means like adoption and supporting all women through their journey of pregnancy and beyond?
