    9:04 - #4 the law of conservation of outrage
    12:22 - #5 the law of awful attraction

    This is exactly the problem with defining 'good' or 'happy' through a purely materialist enlightenment outlook like Steven Pinker and other secular liberals. Materially speaking, more people have been lifted out of poverty than any point in human history, people have more physical possessions than ever before etc. And yet we also see spiking in suicide, we have a loneliness epidemic, we have people choosing to live in a virtual world instead of the real world. What this shows us is that all he things that the enlightenment promised us would usher in unending happiness have led to a global meaning crisis.

      Science is important and so is religion. Having them at odds has created this dilemma. Both can coexist.

      @@Didleeios88 totally agree. They are not antithetical or antagonistic of each other at all. Faith and reason are not at odds with each other and haven't been for almost all of human history. As St John Paul II said, faith and reason are two wings of the same bird.

    Agreed, the Medua, especially MSM. And I also agreed that "if it bleeds it leads" has been the philosophy of legacy outlets, but the advent of the 24 hour news cycle and platforms that cater to it, have increasingly made that the business strategy versus past incarnations that simply conveyed information. The MSM outlets are corporations and as such, they are shackles to their customers. They lean with their audience or, worse, push them left or right, then create a bubble that doesn't inform but rather indoctrinated with the news, from a political viewpoint, only to prop up their narrative. All to generate ad revenue.
    The good news is that it forces people to put more effort into getting at the truth. The bad news is that the majority simply don't in favor of short attention span distraction. News then becomes less about objective truth and more about subjective feelings.

    • @Didleeios88
      @Didleeios88 3 месяца назад

      This is not just the MSM. Sites like this lean further in. It's much more than a 24 hour news cycle here. It's non-stop content. Some truth based some not. It is impossible to stay informed of it all so silos of information are created. Different people have different facts.

    I liked this segment. However - it is patently false that "Terrorism is a phenomenon of modern times". Terrorism has been around for thousands of years. And in fact the main thesis of this video is the reason it seems "modern". Because a wider group of people are aware of it.
    So, you can't say that terrorism is modern (read up on the sicarii). But you could claim that it's impacts are less localised.

    I like how the left tell us that we aren't qualified to make judgements or decisions in our own lives, but somehow the atomic scientists (thanks for flashing a clip of them) are qualified to make judgements about human nature and politics.

    Nicely done. The Law of Conservation of Outrage is a corollary to the demand for oppression being far greater than the supply of oppression. Thus, activists and the professionally outraged will always move along the scale from oppression, to nuisance, to irritation, to vague niggles, invoking the great panoply of disgust and contempt for things once thought merely annoying or clueless. See: misgendering. See also: The Quantity Theory of Insanity, Will Self.
