I agree: it’s a lot of fun to see them. Just recently went to a thrift shop and saw a bunch of slides. I bought a few and made art out of them. I want to believe I gave them a second chance/life. I do not know who took those pictures, or when or where exactly. But those photos are just soo full of life and I always loved retro/vintage things ❤
I am interested in knowing more about slide film, when projected on a clear plain wall with the curtains closed and the lights turned off, what aspect ratio are the photos displayed at.
The aspect ratio depends on the size of the slide film. If it was 35mm still film (meaning not moving pictures) the ratio was 3:2. Cinematic photography (moving pictures), I believe it was the same until widescreen cinema came into vogue. It all depends on the person's camera format. There were many sizes available - 35 mm being one of the newer (not the best); also, sometimes measured in inches, other times measured in mm. 120 mm (measured, I believe diagonally), but also 2-1/4 in film, 4 x 5 in film and numerous others.
I have a Sears Whisper-Matic III from my Uncle's estate and trying to see some of his slides on this. I don't have any carousel. Just slides that have been in a box or in a cartridge that is hard to put slides into. Please advise. I think these are mostly trips that they have taken throughout the years, but I'm looking for the people pictures.
a projector with no carousels is difficult. If you look online, periodically people sell them but make sure you get the correct ones for the projector. Beyond that, you can make a tablet or phone bright white with a tracing app. With that bright light you can see the slides (though not enlarged). There are also slide viewers available on Amazon. We have an old dental x-ray light that we use to make sure we have the correct orientation when scanning them. pixdsinc.com/2018/02/04/slide-negative-scanning/
My viewer won’t work anymore. I tried the batteries, but maybe it is the tiny lightbulb that is amiss. I would love to see these 1976 slides of my handsome deceased husband and my kids when they were little. Any idea where I could purchase a new viewer?
The bulbs are replaceable if that is the problem. Check out Amazon, they have the bulbs for various slide viewers. Here is a link for a reasonable slide viewer www.amazon.com/Lighted-Illuminated-Viewer-Batteries-Included/dp/B07CQTY2W9/ - Dawn Overbye
You really need a scanner that specializes in scanning slides (or negatives) they need to be scanned at a high resolution (~4000 DPI) My scanner (epson V850 pro) has slide and negative holders
Hey John, Dawn or whatever your name is....PLEASE....I BEG YOU.....DO NOT tell people to THROW AWAY any slides that are of no value TO THEM. What may not seem valuable to them can be INvaluable to others. You may not find any value in slide after slide of different birds. But imagine what value those slides would hold to a member of the audubon society....or a researcher of birds? And what about slides depicting life years and years ago? It may bore you, but to someone else, it could open up a whole new world. PLEASE DO NOT throw away old slides. If you don't want them, offer them on craigslist, facebook marketplace, ebay or just donate them!
People usually don't want their images sent out to strangers. They see it as personal information they would rather not share. Like old personal mail for example. Some people do share with local historical societies and such but the majority really just want to save the best and get rid of the rest. I love the idea of preserving historical information! I do wish more people were open to donating their images.
The vast numbers that most people have in their collections they can barely get through enough to choose the ones they want to keep I agree, there maybe information lost but finding someone to donate them to is generally impossible. They also contain various family information they don't want disseminated to the public. It has no great answer.
so nobody makes a usb viewer that I can use on my laptop at the click of a mouse, to view sides one after another similar to the old style projectors but more up to date and simpler?
I have my parents old slides. I have viewed them w/a slide viewer and need to put them in a carousal so I can view the ones I’ve kept. I can’t figure out how to put them in the carousal so that they project correctly and not upside down or sideways. Do you have any hints? Thank you! Lisa
depends on the slide projector. There is a front/back and also top and bottom. Trial and error. If you find a slide with words or a logo you can test until you find the correct orientation.
see if you can find a manual online for your model projector. You might find the original manual or even an uploaded manual and then you can print it. I once bought the original manual for my 1969 Johnson boat motor in hard copy original.
I don't think I understand your question. I don't know of any 120 slides. 35 mm, super 35 mm, 110, 126, 127... email me a picture of them at: info@pixdsinc.com
Before printing the slides need to be scanned at a high resolution we scan them between 4000 and 5000 dpi. Lower resolution will make the prints of low quality
We have a variety of them, this one among them. www.amazon.com/Pana-Vue-Illuminated-Batteries-Microfiber-Cleaning/dp/B0147R70QS/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=slide+viewer&qid=1590528130&sr=8-10

Thank you for your comments. I have several airequipt magazines and a Kodak slice view. How do I remove the slides from the metal frames?
There is no easy way to remove the metal frame. We scan with the frame on and adjust the scanner focus in the slide holders.

Depends on the slide. There are many different sizes not to mention square and rectangle.

Slides were positive because that's how slide film worked. If you bought print film, it gave you color negatives.
I have a scanner. Do I just put the slide(s) on the scanner bed, or do I need a special adapter to hold the slide?

I have all my moms 120 slides. I cant find a projector to show them. dO YOU KNOW WHAT MODEL WAS USED FOR THESE YEARS AGO?

@@pixologiedigitalsolutions5246, he or she is just saying that they have a total of 120 slides.
Can you just put it in front of a projector light so it projects 2 wall ?
for sorting purposes that would work. Make sure to only touch the edges or they can be damaged

What slide viewers do you use?
We have a variety of them, this one among them. www.amazon.com/Pana-Vue-Illuminated-Batteries-Microfiber-Cleaning/dp/B0147R70QS/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=slide+viewer&qid=1590528130&sr=8-10
How much are slides worth?
Worth? Their worth would be determined by how much someone would want them. Many are worthless. Some are priceless to the family members.
A lot of money
@@michaelcarr3037 If you know of someone that is willing to pay a great deal of money for old family slides we would love to connect with them.
What Apps work to view slides?
If you search "light box" in the apps store you will see a variety of different ones. Any of them will work.
