      because different genders are good at different things
      guys are better at doing the heavy lifting because in ages pass we were the protectors of the family and know how to fight
      girls are better at keeping things neat and tidy because in ages pass they were the housekeepers who needed to keep the place clean and cook for the family
      guys are better at hunting, wood cutting, building places
      girls are better at cooking, cleaning, and giving a damn.
      what i find odd though... since we all evolved from cavemen, didn't the cave women of the past also hunt and what not? wonder what the explanation for that is
      i'm a guy and i want to learn how to cook/be good at it (mostly because my food tastes are unique and i'd rather cook for my family than my future wife only cooking for herself + kids if i have any) i'm also ocd as hell and need to keep things organized/everything has to have a home otherwise its a mess

    It's a tiny thing, but as a cis man, I found myself in a store trying out a scarf, only to realise it was labeled in capital letters "FOR LADIES". Instantly I felt ashamed and put it back in. I then looked at the men's options but they were few and all very bland. It was another click for me, earlier that week I had seen that chain I really wanted only to be told by a relative it was for girls. I know it's a tiny thing, but for the many times I gave up on myself, from the music I listen to the way I walk, I wanted to make a first step towards breaking free of gender comformity. So I went back and bought that scarf and I now wear it proudly. It's something small and it doesn't make for a great inspirational story haha, but if for something this simple I already struggled so much against peer pressure, I can only imagine what non-binary people had and have to go through. To Them, I give my sincere respect and admiration, you are a symbol of change for the better.

    As a pansexual cis guy whose three best friends are non-binary, genderfluid, and transgender respectively, and who as of late has been dabbling in some light gender nonconformity, I've grown to legitimately get frustrated or even upset when my customers (I work at a department store) ask me which gender an item is for. Like, b*tch, *it doesn't matter!* Recently I was even asked whether a specific backpack was "for boys" or "for girls", and I kinda internally snapped and just said "It's for backs" and left it at that. While I liked these interviews for the most part, I want to stress something: you DON'T need to know as a child. You can go until 40 or 50 while being relatively comfortable with the label you were assigned at birth, then try on the nonbinary label and realize it fits so much better. If you're questioning now, don't feel like you must be cis because you weren't stealing all the dresses in kindergarten. These people are just three examples.

    • @seronimo__7735
      @seronimo__7735 2 года назад +291

      Also, I want to reiterate that you don't need to use they/them to be nonbinary. The interview didn't really show that; two of the interviewees used they/them exclusively, and the third used she/they. You don't have to use they/them at all. You can use he/she, you can use neopronouns, or you can even just use the pronouns you were assigned at birth. So don't stop questioning your gender just because you don't like they/them. Or because you're fine with your name. All are welcome in this community!

    • @seronimo__7735
      @seronimo__7735 2 года назад +249

      And also, you don't need "dysphoria" (at least not in the traditional sense) to be nonbinary. Dysphoria is typically thought of as crying yourself to sleep every night because you don't have breasts, but it doesn't have to be like that. You don't need to hate your body either. You can just feel weird every time you're called a man/woman. You can feel like there's an emptiness in you, that suddenly goes away when you try on the nonbinary label. You can feel perfectly fine, but then trying the label makes you feel like an itch on your back that you didn't notice is finally being scratched. If you think the nonbinary label fits you, that's all there is to it.

    • @seronimo__7735

I went through something similar when I was wondering why I had a crush on a male classmate when I was little and thought it was a totally original concept, since I was fairly sheltered. Even these decades later, it's great hearing these stories and knowing I wasn't alone there.

      Sure but those traits vary through sexes and masculine traits are usually expressed by men and feminine traits are usually expressed by women. it's not to say that there are no feminine men or masculine women but those are few and far between. Even those atypical behaviors for men and women is influenced by prenatal testosterone exposure in the womb. So this idea that gender roles are EXCLUSIVELY socially constructed is not at all true.

I have a strong suspicion that you deliberately side-stepped addressing the points that I've made. Can you bring proper scientific evidence which shows sex and gender are completely unrelated ? most likely you won't be able to because all of these left-leaning theories have been based in the idea of social constructivism which has quaint scientific basis. All the political games aside, the idea that biology has nothing to do with our behavior is simply not true . It would be enough to look at the animal kingdom and observe continuity between us and them and track how they behave.
      On the other hand, I kind of understand where you are coming from, you are worried that these biological facts will re-incite sexism between men and women, but that reason isn't sufficient enough to disregard pure scientific facts and truths.

    • @monbub
      @monbub 3 года назад +1

      @@sandrorukhadze8707 you're the one pulling facts out of your ass. biology does impact how men and women act (bc of evolution), but its not to the extent where men are always/usually masculine and women are always/usually feminine. we only think we're supposed to act that way, but we don't need to. many people are living proof that it is a social construct. and they dont have any genetic mutations or anything like that, they are just average people. btw the idea of certain traits being masculine or feminine is definitely a social construct. for example, people like to think that men aren't emotional, but they have emotions too. they can also cry, but whenever they do, they feel ashamed of themselves bc its seen as a feminine thing according to society.

  • @araccoonwithalaptop8637

    My sibling was born intersex, so finding out who they were was difficult for them when growing up. My parents are very loving and we’re like “yo child, do what you wanna do, as long as your not committing arson or something you can be whoever you wanna be” and so they just go by all pronouns and there gender? Well, if you look it up intersex is considered a gender so I guess it’s all good. We are all human and we all go through different things trying to figure out who we are and what feels comfortable for us as we grow up. Kids now a days are being exposed to social media and more toxic people on the media hating on people just trying to be who they are and it’s damaging for the child. For the next generation if we ever decide to have kids, raise them well by letting them believe what they want to, let them play with whatever toys they want, don’t force your opinions and emotions onto them to try and “fix” or “change” them because you know what that makes you? A bad parent. Like my dad always said “As long as your not trying to become a mafia member, be whatever you wanna be, do what you wanna do I’ll support you….. what do you want from McDonalds?”
    And yes, he said exactly that. I have a quote book filled with random quotes from my family or friends or random people and this was one of them.

    Saying "there is no way to 'look non binary' " is exactly the thing younger non binary people, who are for the first time exploring their gender need to hear.
    I'm non binary at 15, but due to being very active in the queer community before realizing I had also gotten the wrong idea about what non binary was. Because even in the community itself, misinformation spreads. How you're supposed to look, how you're supposed to feel. These factors, although now I know are far from the truth have still stayed in me and I hate to admit it, but I doubt myself sometimes because of this. I feel like if I don't have enough dysphoria, I'm not "non binary enough" or "I'm faking it".
    It's so important to spread this, because it can stay with someone for who knows how long.

    I identify as a cisgender male, and I definitely relate to what Jacob said near the beginning about how even if you are cisgender you aren't going to identify and take on the burden of all the expectations of a gender identity. Like I may be a cisgender male, but I hate sports, competitions, and I am an emotional person who finds it easy to empathize with others. Like, emotions should not be gendered. I blame (not it a bad way - but in a joking way) my mother for me feeling like I, a man, can have emotions and feel like a human being because she was involved in the feminist movement and has a master's degree in psychology. My father on the other hand, was born and raised in Ethiopia and is kinda sexist. I've only seen him cry once, and I thought "OMG straight cis men can have emotions like everyone else!!" (also in a joking way).

    "WHAT IS IT LIKE TO BE A RUNAWAY?".
    In this day and age, a great percentage of children and teens suffer from an abusive household and some teens like me consider running away. It would be better for us who wish to escape our cages/cells to learn what life is like as soon as you step out of it. Therefore the experience of successful runaways, as well as their opinion and knowledge, and their hardships and struggles, would be a beacon of light for us abused. I technically have both. My trauma counsellor is amazing. I would love for Anthony to have them, or someone like them, show up for the "therapist side" of the experience.

    It's interesting to think that I relate so much with nonbinary people. I just like the idea of no expectations, even though I identify as a girl. It's all I've ever known so to say, and I dont want to just tell everyone I'm nonbinary, because suddenly people see me differently, and I'm expected to be a tomboy or a girly guy or something else stupid. So I just hide in my shell that I'm comfortably loved in all my life. If I could choose I would be called she/they, but the fear just keeps me from taking any action.

    Ohhhh ok I’m non-binary. Like actually, what an eye-opening video. My understanding of this concept was completely far from the truth, and I resonate with it sooooo much. I love the idea of being viewed for the person I am with no prior assumptions made about who I am based on my gender. I love the idea of breaking free from limiting, out-dated gender constructs in order to explore parts of me that aren’t typically socially acceptable for a woman. Living life to the absolute fullest because of an adamant refusal to conform, and an unwavering acceptance of and love for myself. My children will always know that who they are doesn’t have to be defined by limitations set by anyone other than themselves. They will always feel safe and loved and accepted enough to explore all aspects of themselves. So, I guess that makes Anthony Padilla my gender identity guru 😂😂😂

    One thing that always irked me as an enby was not just for the sake of us non-binaries, but for the other sorts trans and intersex people as well; binary gendered lavatories and products, for example. It should just be “hygiene products”! Items should just be items, in a neutral state, as opposed to binary pigeonholing of things into categories of “man” and “woman”, like handbags, clothing, even bloody colours!
    The mere act of such things completely alienates anyone who doesn’t perfectly fit the mold for cis het binary neurotypical person. But especially on the matter of public loos, the fact that some scum make it so people are forced to choose either one binary or another when it comes to just using the loo of all things is just wrong.

    • @Mel-wn9gb
      @Mel-wn9gb 2 месяца назад +1

      This is confused thinking because you're conflating sex with 'gender'. The facilities and products you're referring to relate to sex. Each of the two sexes are different, hence products and facilities are designed and labelled differently to meet the needs of each sex. Things like clothes, handbags and colours relate to 'gender'. The very fact that clothing, accessories, colours and other culturally constructed stereotypes and expectations are arbitrary is precisely why the concept of 'gender' is bogus, moot and irrelevant. So I'm not sure why you guys continue to define not only yourselves, but everyone else in terms of 'gender'.
