EVERY time Babcock comes up in any video I’m watching, I always post in the comments to remind people what that fucking sociopathic narcissist did to the legendary Mike Modano. What an absolute POS
Why? First, you have to assume Babcock knew,? Second, isn't it the caches job to put the best line-up on the ice? Modano wasn't good that season and the Wings were preparing to be at their best for the playoffs. They were trying to win the Stanley Cup, not collect a participation ribbon
I remember when it happened, I straight up refused to believe a top level coach of a then top team could be so obviously callous. Tbh it’s kinda sad his team didn’t stand up for him. Like healthy scratching modano for ANY reason should raise eyebrows. I know it was his last year but the guy was a stud til he hung em up
Anna Kournikova was technically underage when this started. As kids before the bench clearing rule in 1987 Rangers/Bruins games took hours and hours to watch. Mike Babcock, a major A-hole. You missed the Mike Danton/Katie Wolfmeyer murder for hire plot and #1 is the Rick Tocchet/Janet Gretzky gambling ring. The NHL wants that erased from our memory as does Wayne dying his hair.
2:15 Younger than 17. She was in the Detroit locker room during their 1997 Cup celebration, and he wished her a then-happy 16th birthday during TV and radio interviews. He spent that summer with her at Wimbeldon and the U.S. Open.
Just like Mike yeo did to Keith yandle. The team wasn't anywhere near playoff contention. Absolute no reason to break his streak. He was a good player and a better man. I think everyone was sickened about that. Yandle handled himself well. But Hazy had his back
Al of Reeves fights are, because he doesn't fight anyone tough. Everyone can remember multiple guys that had their career ended by Lucic, yet Reeves won't go near him and has no devastating wins like Looch has
Its number 1 to get your name carved hockey is a team sport hardest cup to win means more than individual skill orr agrees and hes still the best. Gordie gretzky mario squidny would probably all agree.
I grew up a few blocks away from Mike in elementary and middle school, long story short after the lockout, someone decided to let their friend several million dollars during the real estate collapse. The girl who in the job moving into his house, sat next to me my entire fifth grade year . Very sad
For the record Babcock did not deliberately prevent Modano from reaching 1500 games. An unfortunate injury including healthy scratches earlier in the season while the Detroit was healthy was the unfortunate catalyst. With that being said always question these small to medium sized hockey RUclips channels. There will be video’s based around stretching the truth. Video creators have to eat at the end of the day and putting a bit more mustard on the hot dog is great for clicks. Have a great day everyone.
Yes I see too many click-baits and half truths but the team had already clinched a playoff spot and it was the last game of the season. I've always done what's best for the team at any level but Babcock had to know what it meant for Madano. That was just arrogance.
@@michaelcanney7218 And as a few here have already stated, all Babcock had to do was play Modano for ONE GAME. In fact, he didn't even have to play him the whole game, just one series at least! As a Minnesotan (always liked Modano from his sadly brief stay here), that move really pissed me off tbh
It is too bad Dallas did not sign Madano to a one game contract the following season to erase that dick move by Babcock.
Mike Modano being benched by Mike BabCOCK to prevent him from playing in 1,500 games is downright despicable
Not a surprise though
@@robsartori5394 at that moment i would have fired babcock
Yeah that was inexcusable, I lost all respect for him after that

I wasn't aware that Mike Babcock denied Mike Modano from reaching the 1500 game mark. What a jerk.
Babcock was known to be a dick like that on purpose.
It's definitely one of the memories people know him most for. He's an absolute POS

Mike Babcock doing something crappy to a player? Nothing unusual. Par for the course.
He benched Chris Chelios in the 2009 Winter Classic in Chicago which was in his hometown 😒
He's a selfish idiot who probably makes his wife sit in the back seat. That "I'm the boss" thing doesn't work even with high school players.
To play NHL goalie without a mask requires BOTH bravery and stupidity.
I'm just thinking of that guy having to walk home with 1 shoe 😂
And an indent of that missing shoe on his face.
If he drank enough beers, probably veered off to one side the whole way home.

All Babcock had to do is put Modano on for one shift, and he wood have his 1500 games.🤔🤗👍😭
Retired as a Dallas Stars (single game, honorary contract)

Ryan Reaves would get destroyed by Laraque, Brasear, Probert, Brown.
I worked at a high end restaurant in the Detroit area in the 90s. Fedorov brought Kournikova in on a couple occasions.
Cool story.
phil bourque didn’t tell you they broke the cup throwing it in Lemieux’s pool. Wasn’t a rattle he heard
5:32 show? lol
Imamas vs reaves fight was so underwelming

SERGEI 😭
He only hit him once with the shoe

Wtf? None of this makes any sense

Yea, he did deliberately bench a healthy modono the last game of the year. The game meant absolutely nothing as far as standings etc.

“By your own show”?? I’m gonna go out on a limb and say you don’t bother to proof or edit your work, do you Slick?
