Financial considerations trump football considerations. Or they did until they realised it was all collapsing as a result of that neglect. Hence the shift to a long term plan in appointing ten hag to transform the mess and looking for investment or a sale, because finance now dictates both approaches. Need to build back up the football to keep the golden goose laying those eggs.
As a Gooner, you have no idea how much I feel relief to see Mourinho been sacked by Man Utd. He is such a good manager that I have no doubt, given 4-5 years to him, he would be able to bring Man Utd to the previous glory of SAF era. I'm not a huge Jose fan but he's spot on with his analysis here. Too many players at Utd on big money contracts that would get nothing like as much elsewhere so will just sit tight until their contracts run down. Until you can clear out the dead wood, the club will not move forward
The way the club is run is a disgrace. If I remember correctly, even Louis Van Gaal wanted some specific players to play for Man Utd which didn't happen. Also Ralf Rangnick told that to win European Competition, Man Utd need major open heart surgery, like he meant that most of the squad then should be out of the club. Presently, most of them are still here. Disappointing.

He had issues with both shaw and martial. Pogba also. But martial and Pogba in particular, according to red issue at the time. Screaming matches with Pogba, being blocked from selling both etc. Pogba was bought on his watch, too. Another issue United managers face.
I've seen Shaw play live a few times now. I've never seen a player consistently out of position and making the wrong decisions.

How on Earth can a club sell players who are overpaid? No other club wants to pay their wages.They don’t want to leave and take a drop in wages. In effect they are trapped at MUFC. The only way out is to let their contracts run down. But then you don’t recoup anything with a transfer fee. This is all about the clubs wage structure. Whoever negotiates contracts is building a trap that MU can’t escape from.
Something that has been happening under ten hag now woodward is gone. Letting players leave at the end of their contracts when they would automatically have been given new ones prior.
That bottleneck you mention has always been a serious issue for United managers. So I think it’s crazy expecting managers to press a button and transform the club inside 18 months. This isn’t city where guardiola can have a 40 player turnover within the first 12 months. Or where he signs a goalkeeper or cb for 50m, and replaces them 12 months later with another for 50m. Repeating the process until one sticks. At United, the manager is stuck with the first signing regardless of how it works out.
If WINNING is paramount, they'd get rid of the dead wood at a loss. Even if you subsidised some salaries. A successful side is not on the top of the list for ownership. Share price trumps all.

Why Bruno isn't put in the list of the trouble-maker players? Bruno is one of the most vocal players worsening the atmosphere in the dressing room. Him being put constantly in every match even though he is one of the worst performers in the team, is really an issue. During the interview he gave just after the game with Bournmouth, he was blaming every player for the defeat part from himself. He is the captain FFS. He needs to be put on the bench for a period of time, the Liverpool game proved it.
Shaw was lazy and overweight when Jose arrived. He was right . But to be fair to Shaw he took it on board and has improved enormously.
