As an ex wrecker driver, I would love to hear more about any wrecker driver stories! Thanks for making most days on the web tolerable with your great stories.
In the 80s I was the driver for a friend who was an old-fashioned repo man. We once were interrupted by a pair of cops one of whom told us that we'd better have the proper paperwork because possession of "picklocks" could be a misdemeanor or a felony. He wasn't old or confused, he knew the law. Another term that confused a few of my California motorcycle riding friends was "slungshot." Not even related to "slingshot." One was caught and arrested for having a singletail whip that had a weighted grip wound around his handlebars. He had to plead guilty. According to CA law: "22210. Any person in this state who manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the state, keeps for sale, or offers or exposes for sale, or who gives, lends, or possesses any leaded cane, or any instrument or weapon of the kind commonly known as a billy, blackjack, sandbag, sandclub, sap, or slungshot, is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year or imprisonment." He thought the cops were misreading the law and that he'd beat it. He was mistaken.
Love you Steve. These people that always just wanna argue. They remind me of friends diving company. Where people will argue about things in the safety briefing. People that have no experience diving.
I drive a Honda Accord that I've had since the early 00s. I've gone out of my way to treat it well and it's run like a champ for hundreds of thousands of miles and for decades. In spite of that I get people telling me I should buy such and such a car because it's so much better. What do I know, maybe a different car would be better but I'm pretty satisfied
I love listening to you because you explain things well. I haven't found any other RUclips lawyers that have such a nice voice and fun personal stories like you. Thanks for all the informative videos Lehto!
Dear Steve, your LehtoPayDepartment is tardy with this months check. Please expedite these funds for our all important Save-A-Grouse Foundation. Remember, for a $10,000 contribution, you can adopt a grouse of your very own. Think how exciting that would be! Your immediate attention to this matter will be appreciated.
As someone who worked in auto repair, the only cars I used to see were the ones that broke. It tends to give you a jaundiced view of a lot of vehicles that the majority of people have no problem with.
Dear Steve, it's good to let off a little steam, especially when so many individuals keep stoking the fires! Now, go have a cup of hot chocolate and a cookie; sit by the window and watch the trees leaf out. Oh, wait, you live in Michigan, better watch the snow fall instead. We luv ya brother!
I have owned a Chevy, a Porsche, a Volkswagen, a Ford, two Mazdas, a Dodge, a Saturn, and two Hondas. They were all used when I bought them. I had some problems with all of them, but I also enjoyed each of them. Cars seem to have gotten better over the years, but dealerships have become worse in my experience. I'm looking to buy another car now. Spin the wheel!
It's all about how you treat your cars. My 07 Saab 9-3 Aero wagon 6spd has 178k miles on it. I bought it new and drove it daily for 11 years. Original clutch, water pump, etc. The biggest repair so far was the AC compressor in 2020. Tires, batteries? I've been through a ton of those!
I have a saab 9-3 i drive on the weekends or for fun, 130,000 miles. I bought it from the first owner at 70,000 miles who was going into a nursing home.
We've had a Ford Explorer (meh), a Ford Escape (double meh), a Pontiac T-1000 (a fine lemon), a Plymouth Fire Arrow (how I loved that car!), other unremarkable vehicles, and, by far the best...a Chevy Trailblazer. Old Aunt Bessie is 18 years old and is just a grand old girl! 😊
I retired and closed my business in 2017, then moved to Indonesia in January 2018. I still get between 2 and 5 offers for financial service every day. However the phishing attempts have dropped off significantly, probably because I limit website the cookies and use a VPN.
@@byronarana4008 yeah, got this Gen Z kid at work... Thinks he's all that and a bag of chips... Just cause you know how to change settings on a PC, doesn't mean you should...
That's rad about your explorers. I myself am very unlucky and every ford I've ever owned I had to replace the transmissions. But ... My old 07 Camry needed one too when it neared 200,000 miles. Luckily now the Camry is all good
My last explorer was 1999 eddie bauer, got 20 years before the wreck. Now I have 2013. One problem with the transfer case, an engineering mistake. Still a good car though.
My parents had a Chrysler station wagon that was a true lemon before lemon laws existed. They've had Fords, GMs, a Subaru and Toyotas. Ford is the only US car I would buy, but that would only be my last resort. We've owned 2 Subarus in 22 years, and they will always be my first choice.
I have an old Toyota truck, probably the last Hilux style sold in the US before the Tacoma and everything about it is expensive. I don't remember buying a part for it and thinking that's cheaper than the Ford or GM trucks I have owned. It might be almost 30 years old but it has less than 180000 miles on it.
Ford Explorer is a good vehicle. Especially the 4.0 V6 engine. If there are any complaints it would be gas mileage. But that may not be true on the new ones.
You got an IT department? Wow, you're big time. I got a sanitary department, I sit on it every morning. Yes, I clean it and fix it myself. I'm not big time, I'm little time. It's called poor!
I know you already know this because you did a video about a tire suit settlement, but if your '19 Explorer's tires are still the original ones, you might want to check the dates on them.
Well, if the complainer (about the term "picklocks") means that most of the politicians that write the statutes are "old, confused people" they arent wrong 🤓
One of my biggest fears is that I will comment on one of Steve's videos, and I'll end up on the Friday night rant video. 😂 So far, in the 3 or 4 years I've been watching (every video), I haven't disagreed with Steve on anything. I don't even know anyone in person I agree with on so many different subjects.
I have been listening to your podcasts for about three years I have heard you say I am only licensed to practice law in Michigan and cannot give advice on legal issues in other states. I have heard this about a thousand times. There is a name for those who criticize you for not answering out of your state legal questions. That name is IDIOT.
"Heaven forbid, a Toyota..." LOL (edit) Re: Apple "clock": So THAT'S why your videos tend to hit around the twenty minute mark. That kind of sounds like why the solid fuel rockets for the space shuttle were the size they were due to the width of a horse.
Considering section 466 of the California penal code was first introduced in 1872, I don't think this is a good defense against, "only old people call it a picklock". In your favor is the fact that my spell check agrees picklock is a word. I don't think it should be used though, as the word is descriptively inaccurate. It is not a lock that does something to picks, it's a pick that does something to locks.
And THEY refuse answer to my necessary reQUEST upload to change not their password to me and send me please necessary banking numbers so that I may deposit many THOUSANDS of dollars.
Hmm Toyota parts cost more than domestic vehicle parts. They tend on average to last longer. So no cost of repairs would increase. Frequency of repairs decreases, again generally. Toyota can build a lemon and of say Ford can build a gem. As for who builds more of which I could look it up but I'm a busy man. Considering how Toyota has claimed that thier vehicles are designed to last twenty years on third world roads, then looking outside at the local road.... a Toyota might be a wise choice. Hopeful the roads are better (much) in Michigan.

I'd just like to point out that the description "old and confused" may well apply to the California legislature😆
Yes, yes it could.
You are not old and confused, just grumpy. Keep up your fine work and rants.
