do you know why that when I do the reverse and slo motion add on I can not use the Smooth out option. When I do it won't burn to a disc. If I remove that option it works?

You can use PIP to do this. You can have them start and stop at different times.
Why not turn off background rendering so that you can play as you develop, with less choppiness?

I have had a look through and was wondering if there was a way of incorporating new motion backgrounds and transition into the "content' part of the navigator (in other words the presets of pinnacle). I am using Pinnacle Studio 18 Ultimate.
Thanks for the compliment. You can't save media as presets. Your best bet would be to save the media into collections.

I might not ask at the right place but I've got a problem on pinnacle 17. I have video taken with my iphone 4 in the vertical side. I would like to crop them to have it full screen in horizontal. Can you send me a link where you explain how to do it?
If you have PS Ultimate place the video in the timeline track, right click on it and select "Effects Editor", select "2D-3D Editor", then select "2D editor advanced". Use the rotate selection to rotate the video and use the Zoom selection to move the video closer until the black bars are gone. If you don't have PS Ultimate you there should be a rotate and crop option under the camera section that you can use.

I am still working with PInnnacle 18 and for the most part not having any really big issues until today. I tried to slow down my video which worked out perfectly after following your instructions here. The video played fine in Pinnacle after making my changes but after slowing things down Pinnacle no longer would export what I created. I thought it might be the video that I started with as it was another animation but I tried it with my regular video shot with my video camera and that would not even export. Any ideas what is going on here and how I can correct this problem?

No, it doesn't reverse the audio. CyberLink PowerDirector 12 Ultimate will.

What are your project settings? What are the resolution, frame rate, etc. of your video clip?
Try exporting the section of the video that has the effect to see if it exports smoothly.

What do you do with all of the stuff on the timeline when you're done, and you want this to be part of a larger project? Do you render it to a movie to merge into a single clip?
Hello again. First, let me say without your help I would not be as far into the video I'm doing. Again I hope you can help me. I took 104 snapshots from a few seconds of a video, I clicked ahead one frame at a time. I then put green in the area I wanted transparent thru all of them. As I inserted all frames I set the duration and made the green transparent. My question is this. When I put another picture under this and try to make the green transparent, it simply brings up the snapshots already done in effects editor. Can 2 layers in the same space but on different tracks have transparent backgrounds. Hope I explained it right. Thank you
Yes you can have transparency on two different tracks above one another but you may get some spill of one on to the other. Are you using photoshop or some other editor to create the green background?

No. Just the free stuff. I use "paint" program to erase most of the area I want transparent, than pencil to smooth edges, than fill with light green. Or a color that is not in picture if green is prominent. Than photofilter (free) to remove green and layer onto picture. It works great except for the secondtrack is not coming up.
I always use chrome key. Would transparency or luna work better?

If you are removing the background with Paint.net you can save the image as a transparent .PNG and it will have a transparent background when you bring it into Pinnacle Studio. There will be no need to use the chroma keyer and you will be able to see both images. They will show up with a black background until you place something on the timeline below the .PNG image that you create. skip the whole chroma key piece. I tried your way and it worked. I will use it from now on. Before I read your post I tried another way. I put the pictures on the lower track under a section that was not transparent. I made the lower jpgs transparent, than dragged them under the upper track transparent ones, than set the duration. This worked. But your way is quicker. I just wanted to post this alternative. I have not tried the laser effect, but wil soon. Thank you.
How do you reverse audio (NOT video) in Pinnacle Studio 17? Last time I checked, I don't think there was an option to reverse the audio the same way you would do it to a video.

Is there a way to reduce the noise in my videos? A bunch of tiny blue dots (almost like static) show up on my camera when filming. The blue dots usually show up more when filming darker scenes. Would you please help me, either using the camera (I have a Canon VIXIA HF R400) or Pinnacle Studio?
Or would I need some lighting equipment to film my videos? If so, can you tell me what the best lighting equipment is that you can recommend for me to buy?
The grainy look and blue dots are caused by lighting issues and there may be an issue with the sensor in your camera.
Hey Man was just wondering if you got anything info on the new PS 17.5 yet .. Mainly wanted to know if they figured out how to stop the software from crashing so dang much yet .. I would bet your channel is a major reason that a lot of folks have stuck with this software ..lol.. you definitely provide much better support .. I wouldn't even be surprised if their techs are watching your vids for training (lol) .. they should be given you free software to test and have you on payroll .. anyway, I'll be watching out for the 411 on 17.5 .. thanks
Thanks for the love. I was asked to beta test PS17 but I didn't participate. I might when 18 comes out. I actually got some free copies of PS17 Ultimate from Corel for my contests as well. As far as 17.5 the only thing they did with that patch was provide a free copy of the SonicFire plugin and 10 free royalty free songs from SmartSound. No fixes with the new patch.

Nope, no can do. You can only have one project open at a time. You should produce each project separately as a single video clip and then add them together in a new project.
Actually, you sorta can.
Cut (control & C) the objects from one timeline in one project, and then open your target project, move your marker to the time in the timeline you want to insert, and paste (Control & V) it in.
Simple. I do it all the time. :)

There's a red bar above my clip when I slow it down, how can I fix it? It isn't showing the clip was slowed, it's not showing anything at all. It just shows the clip's first frame and that's where it stays
+WeavePap The red bar means that Pinnacle Studio can't generate a preview. It may be corrupt file.
Will the slow motion still work on it once I export it?
If it works in the preview it works in the export. :-)
Hello Mr. Pro. As you have helped me in the past, I'm hoping you can again. There is one cartoon episode missing from my grandsons collection. I can get it from amazon streaming video. Will screen capture record this while I'm playing it? Would 13, 25 or 30 frames per sec be best for cartoon. And, any idea how much space (hard drive) a 15 minute cartoon would take up. And than how to burn to dvd. Thank you
I would use the same frame rate for recording that you will use for your video. Not sure how much HD space it will take up as there is no guaranteed calculation based on time and file format. I will assume that it will take up a lot of space. I would use MP4. Are you adding the clip to a video in PS and then burning it on a DVD? If so you can watch my tut to see how it is done. Hey I just stumbled onto your page here and I'm thinking you'd be the best guy to ask. I've been using Pinnacle 15 for a few years now but I'm getting into slow motion editing with my gopro which is capable of shooting at 120 and even 240 fps. I've been unsuccessful editing these frame rates for slow-mo using Version 15. Am I doing something wrong or does version 15 not support these frame rates? My other question is does Pinnacle 17 support these frame rates? Thanks for your help!
It will support the frame rate and play in slo-mo if the file is an acceptable format. Unfortunately GoPro uses a program called Cineform to convert the 120 fps or 240 fps files to an .AVI format that is not compatible with Studio. It won't work in any version of PS.
malik i'm using avid studio as of now seems to more stable than 17. I saw your post on plugins that will work in avid and pinnacle 16 , do you know if the versions have been upgraded and will they still work in avid studio thanks

Montel Amerson Not in PS, just using the smooth button. You can create a slow motion video using the frame rate of your camera if you have a device that has high frame rates.
Whats best frame rate
There isn't one but the higher the frame rate the slower it will be. You can use 60 fps, 120 fps, or higher. Watch this video for more info.

Is there any real value upgrading from ps 16 ultimate to ps 17 ultimate? I have the former and wonder if the latter would be worth the upgrade price?
There are a lot of features other than effects that PS Ultimate offers over the basic version...way too many to mention here. I think it is worth it because you get more options and flexibility for editing your videos. hey uhmm im trying to put a video with 240fps but it wont render.. in the preview screen.. it's all green.. pls help
What device did you use to record the footage? What is the file format of the footage? What is the resolution of the footage?
i used my yi action cam... when i set to 120fps or 60fps.. it works fine...
resolution 848x480 and the format mp4.. even when i preview the video... it's a little bit choppy.. or is there something to do with the hardware?? thanks!!!
Camera and file format seem to be fine.
Since that info is good I'm not sure why it isn't working at 240 fps. You should try asking on the Pinnacle Studio forum. Someone there should be able to help.

In previous versions of PS, we've been able to apply a speed effect to MULTIPLE clips at once (ie: I want to slow down 10 different clips on my timeline all at once). Can this be done in S18U? Thanks for any help you can offer.

***** Hmmm...that seems to work with effects made in the effect editor but NOT with the "add speed" function when right clicking on the clip (there's no pink effects line at top of clip...only a yellow dotted line throughout middle of clip). Is there, perhaps, another way to add a speed effect to a clip in the effect editor that I'm missing? BTW...this is in S18U.

You can add an effect clip with an alpha channel. I have tutorials on muzzle flashes that you can watch.

You can use the Basic Color effects in the effects editor to do channel shifts to the color you want using the RGB sliders.
Hey was just wondering. Going to get the Ultimate version, but 18 just came out. Does 18 have all the same (or more) options when it comes to flares, lighting, orbs, etc (Red Giant plugins)?
It has more options for lighting and flares in NewBlueFX Motion Blends, Art Blends, and Video Essentials. Red Giant does not come with 18. If you have 17 the Red Giant Plugins are transferred over to 18.
***** Based soley upon what an amazingly helpful guy you are, I ordered 18 Ult' as my first stab at P.S. - But the fact is, - it's worth paying the pittance they're now asking for 17 Ult', also, - just to get the Red Giant, - huh?!
I'm not even some one who gives a shit for effects, generally, but I know there will be a few gems in there. That package is pretty puffy for $70. Any issues with both versions being the physical/box? - I'd bust out a standalone Casablanca Avio before I downloaded something I can't move around as I please.

I just realized I ordered the 64 bit.
It's really up to you if you decide to buy both. If you're not an effects guy I would not do it. All you are getting is Red Giant from 17 and transferring it over to 18. You might like what 18 has without having to get 17. That's a call you'll have to make Harold Lauder I would go with the box version if you're not in a hurry. A lot of people have had issues with partial downloads and having to go back to Corel to get the rest of the files.
after the update to version 19.5.1 through the latest patch (running 19.5.1.401 now), the reverse function does not work anymore and does not render in the preview and timeline. It shows the brown bar for background rendering an the first frame in green, nothing else does progress further though. When exporting the video, the export stops exactly at the reverse part of it and does not finalise at all... Closing Pinnacle is also not possible anymore when this occurs and it needs to be closed with the task manager :(

You'll have to contact Pinnacle for help with those issue or you can remove the latest patch.
Uninstall Pinnacle, reinstall Pinnacle and install all of the patches except the last one.
thanks, just wanted to see if someone else has issues with this last update as well. I have re-installed PS 19 up until patch 19.5 and the reverse export function issue does not occur any more, the export works just fine. I also installed PS 19 on a laptop and had the same issues with exporting a video in reverse if the patch 19.5.1 is installed. All patches below seem to work just fine though.
I have the same problem and not just with reverse but the slow motion as well. I tried Maliek's other tutorial on faster playback but it did not work either. If you contact support, please update us as to what solution is available. I have the latest version so I can't go back to an earlier version.
Phil, going back is (relatively) easy: just uninstall Pinnacle Studio through the Control Panel and re-install the 19.0 base program, then patch until version 19.5.0. It keeps all setting, registration and project bin, etc... I've done this 6 times now to find out which version actually still works with these effects. 19.5.0 seems to work with all effects I've tried...
I upgraded to Pinnacle Ultimate 18 and try to put my 1080p at 120fps in to slow down and cant seem to make it happen...suggestions?

In Pinnacle Studio I export my files as MP4 for uploads to RUclips. There is no video converter in Pinnacle Studio. You import your videos from the watchfolders and export them to one of the available formats. If you need a video converter to change the format of a file so that it is compatible with Pinnacle Studio I recommend Handbrake or MediaCoder.

If you don't want it to make the clip longer or shorter select do not select CONSTANT. Select STRETCH. Then right click on the clip and select ADJUST DURATION. If you want to speed up the clip make the duration shorter. If you want to slow down the clip make the duration longer. This way it will not change the clip and it will change to the speed you want. You may need to play with the duration until you get the exact speed you want.

+Brian Kelly If it is jittery there isn't much you can do. In the future try shooting at a higher frame rate to help smooth the video out. The higher the frame rate the smoother the slow motion will be.

I used an iphone6 to take my footage, however, the clips show terrible quality once imported into Pinnacle. Why is this so.....?

So I have been experiencing this problem for a very long time now - slow motion with titles and in/out transitions. So when you convert your clip into slow motion and play it back - this is fine - but the minute you add a transition and or a title - there are 1 or 2 frame 'reverse' jumps, at the point when the title or transition ends. What makes it worse is that it can be random. I have messed about with this problem for far too long - I have changed the frame rate setting i.e. 25/25p, 25/50i, 50/50p to see if this has any affect and it helps but I still have 1/2 frame 'reverse' jumps - I have deleted 1,2,3,or 4 frames and sometimes this works, but it is such a pain. So can anyone help me and explain what is going on? I operate my camera at 50 frames per second.

I received Pinnacle after sometime looking at tutorial videos I got brave and import my first video! However when I hit the play button the video didn't match the song. :-( it was dragging .....help!
What is the source of the video (phone, camera, clip from online, game capture device, etc.)? Anything from a source that has a variable bit rate will have syncing issues (phone, some game capture devices, etc.).

Mauro Sciambi Do not use the speed effect. Change the frames per second of the timeline to 24 frames per second and it will slow the video down. Go to the cog/gear above the timeline and change the frames per second.

Well the slow-motion doesn't work quite as I wish, it is just showing 2 or 3 Frames and than it ends.

I seem to lose quality in pinnacle studio 18 when I am adding videos :( and even when I use the slow down settings it doesn't slow the clip down :(

Glad to help. Keep in mind, when you change your preview to best quality it will take longer to render your videos. It is best to edit your videos using a lower quality preview so that things work faster and you put less stress on your computer. When you export the video the quality will be flawless regardless of how the preview looks while you are editing.

HI IVE WATCHED UR TUTORIALS FOR YEARS IVE USED PINNACLE FOR YEARS. I RECENTLY WENT OUT AND BOUGHT PINNACLE 17 ULTIMATE AND I HAD ALL THE REQUIREMENTS INSTALLED INTO MY COMP WHICH IT REQUIRED TO RUN PROPERLY. I HAVE HAD THE DAMNEST TIME WITH IT, IT STOPS WORKING SLOWS DOWN WEN I EXPORT IT SAYS THERES IS AN ERROR IN SUCH N SUCH TIMING OF THE TIMELINE. I WAS WORKING ON A PROJECT I COLORED CORRECTED AND GRADED IT IN ONE CLIP I ADDED A SUNGLARE SAVED MY PROJECT SHUT IT DOWN BCUZ I HAD TO LEAVE CAME BACK HOME, TRIED TO OPEN AND IT WONT OPEN MY PROJECT AT ALL! IVE CALLED PINNACLE TO ASK QUESTIONS AND THEY WILL NOT HELP ME, CAN U? FURTHERMORE I HAVE NOTHING SAVED N MY COMP NO DOWNLOADS NO NOTHING JUST PINNACLE NO STOCK FOOTAGE NOTHING!

I need help with pinnacle studio 17... So when i import clips that are 1080 60 fps when i import them to the software and i view them they are slowed down and i dont know why it is doing this. its not dropping frames its just slowed down. if you can help please do im so confused
Are your project settings set to 60p? If it is set to a lower FPS it will slow it down and will not drop frames. If It is set to 60p I need more specifics (device used to record footage, computer specs, file format, etc.).
It has been fine before but i started a new project and the clips are slowed down. i set the settings to 60p and its still slow...

I used a Haupauge HD PVR record the clips and the format is MP4. when i got to the file proporties it shows 14.99 fps was wondering how to change that
Hey there! Please disregard my last comment. I got my video exporting problems figured out. There was a bug in Pinnacle Studio 18 and I had to download an update. Are you clicking on a picture or a video? You have to right click on a video. If you are right clicking on a video clip and there is no Speed option then there is something wrong with your installation of the program. You may need to uninstall and reinstall
+PinnacleStudioPro I was pictures I was using for time-lapse. Will create video of the pictures than reverse. Thank You.

Not really. It's not old. It's done in Pinnacle Studio 17. The other ones were done in the older versions. BUT Yes you are right that the process is exactly the same in the older versions.
