Honestly I like Stephen Kings older books very much. If you know the stories are weird and more slowly and you have time to really relax and get into them you can enjoy them, but King isn’t everybody’s cup of tea 😄 I read 1922 today and liked the story a lot ☺️
I tried to read Stephen King when Gavin started his journey with that author earlier this year, but I found out he mostly isn't for me. I liked Jerusalems lot, that was about it of the books I tried before I gave up. Jerusalems lot is a novella/short story. When it comes to Horror, so far Alice by Christina Henry is my favourite so I am going to read more by her.
Yeah, Graveyard shift is more of a gothic mystery with academia and light horror elements (the horror is more in the atmosphere). I really liked it but it’s a hard sell
If you want to give Stephen King another go with a totally different vibe I'd recommend The Eyes of The Dragon... basically a fantasy novel so a good way to try his writing with a more familiar plot structure (I also am mostly a fantasy reader and not a big King fan, but liked that one).
In terms of Stephen King, everyone says out of every 4 of his books, 1 is good 🤣 I've read some PHENOMENAL books from him (IT, Pet Sematary) but also some absolute shite ones 🫠 A (tiny) book I think you'd love is Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke .. very unexplainable, very weird and unbelievably unsettling. Also warning for some body horror in that one!
Stephen king I'd a massive fan of exposition.. he feels the need to tell the reader every bit of the story that every character does , all the time... my first read was salems lot. I should have dnfd but it was a buddy read so I kept going. 700 pages later I realised the error of my ways. He is not for me
I don't think Stephen King will be for you. He mixes real life stuff with a bit of weirdness into his books all the time. Most are about killing. Maybe Gavin can help you when he has read all the books haha, but from what I've read it's a no. He also writes very slow horror. Which is something I love, but don't think will work for you
Stephen King books are boring. It takes forever for anything to happen and his endings are almost always bad. I've heard The Shining and Doctor Sleep are exceptions but I haven't read either due to my struggles with previous King books
@@hannahwallis1290 He's a prolific author. I just don't have the patience to wade through the bad. I tried for several years and never found a book that was higher than 3 stars.
1922 -- very boring book. Read it as part of the collection. I forced myself through, but it's just really really literary rather than a horror. Try Carrie or Pet Semetary instead.

You need to read Guillotine by Delilah S Dawson, this is a great book.
Try Pet Cemetary

Oh no Stephen king is my fave author!🙈
Christine Was Terrible, Very Boring & Lame Build Up, But The Shining Was Great.
@ yeah you will have some hits and misses but literally Stephen king has been my most read author 3 years running🤣

Recently read The Shining and I would argue that 11/23/62 is much better
I did wonder weather Stephen king would be for you c
