Yes, and for years I didn't notice that little whispering vocals interlaced into the background that sounds so ethereal. You have to listen on good equipment to truly appreciate this song.
RIP Christine. Hope they will view Don't Stop. Christine sings and is credited on writing. Greatly agree, Christine was THE secret weapon behind Fleetwood Mac's best music.
They are amazingly talented. The magic in all of these hits is not lyrics or singing imo. Though everyone says so. The music is the common factor in all these hits. They knew how to construct a song. Lindsey is my favorite, but they were all gifted musicians. Those baselines are incredible and Mick may be my favorite drummer of all time.
Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks are both great singers, but Christine is an amazing writer and musician as well! “You Make Lovin’ Fun” is another great one, she also wrote the lyrics for “The Chain”, “Songbird”, “Don’t Stop”, and “Over My Head”. So you’ve heard he out front without knowing probably.
Christine is awesome in every respect, BUT she didn't write the lyrics to "The Chain." Those belong primarily to Stevie. Christine wrote a section of the music for that song.
If you listen to Stevie's demo version of the Chain, you'd never recognize it! The famous bass line and outro was from Christine's demo song Keep Me There. The way they morphed all these bits of songs together to create The final Chain is truly incredible. Makes me appreciate the song even more.

Two other great Fleetwood Mac songs with Christine are ”Isn’t it Midnight” and ”Everywhere” (which someone recently made a bad cover of that’s played on the radio all the time).
R.I.P. Christine McVie. She's the unsung hero of Fleetwood Mac. In the last few hours since her death made the news, it's been pointed out that, while Stevie and Lindsey get the most attention, when it came time to putting out the band's greatest hits album, close to half of the songs on it were Christine songs. She's an underrated, but an amazing singer, songwriter, and performer. You really need to check out her song "Songbird." Will make you cry in a really good way.
Devastated to hear of the passing of Christine McVie yesterday. One of my real musical heroes. What an incredible singer/songwriter and musician. Fleetwood Mac does not become Fleetwood Mac without her massive contributions to the band. One of our generations greatest hitmakers and her signature vocals provided such a rich and warm backdrop to the lives of millions like me. Just so, so many beautiful songs. We will miss and remember you forever. God bless you and RIP.

Fleetwood Mac has three lead singers. Obviously Stevie who's simply amazing then the talented Christine who as you can tell in this song has a wonderful lead voice but also Lindsey Buckingham who leads on songs such as " Go your own way" all very talented.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for giving us a Christine McVie- led song. She started as a blues player/singer in the late 60's before joining FMac. This is one of my favorite songs from Tango in the Night,1987. Her earlier songs (Say you Love Me, Songbird, Hold Me, for example) feature a lot more prominent piano, though they did adapt to the synth-heavy 80's quite successfully with this album. More please!

I think she was there at the beginning of Fleetwood Mac, whilst playing gigs with her old band I think I read of her singing uncredited backing vocals on tracks from the first FM album. I think she's been credited on every album since and as a full member since 1970ish. Until her semi retirement.
“You make loving fun” is my favorite Fleetwood Mac song. Christine is the lead singer on that one, you guys should definitely check it out. Edit:”Say you love me” is also a goodie.
Christine's voice was way better than most credit. Although Lindsay and Stevie played t the high lead vocals they would not have been success without her. As a singer, songwriter and honestly dealmaker in the band through their breakups.
If you REALLY want to hear Christine's voice and range, listen to "Songbird" with Christine on the grand piano...her performance will bring you to tears. I saw them (Mac) live in '77 and Songbird made my jaw drop....
OMG yes! I love the whole FM album Rumors. I just like well produced music by good musicians. So annoying how decent musicians are denied air time vs auto-tuned garbage :-(
Christine McVie was with the band for years & many albums prior to Stevie Nicks joining the band. She is much more upbeat & has written some of the best songs the band ever recorded. She is the piano player. I have been suggesting her to you for months. Go back in time to the band before Stevie & listen to her song Spare Me A Little Of Your Love from the Bare Trees album.
Christine was the backbone of FM. She wrote, she sang, she provided backup & she was glue keeping the band on course. She, along with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were known for & were amazing at their 3-part harmonies. On this song, Little Lies, during the chorus, you hear Stevie doing 2nd part and then Lindsey B doing 3rd part. Loving hearing them. This is another reason why FM is unforgettable. The 3 singers gave good songs each, then backed each other up vocally. And of course, Lindsey B came in later and did his magic to make the songs sound even better, production-wise. Love this group!
Christine may have written more songs for Fleetwood Mac than Stevie, simply because Christine has been with the band for many more years than Stevie. About half of Fleetwood Macs albums studio albums were produced before Stevie joined the band.
Christine McVie was an important piece of Fleetwood Mac and sang quite a few of the hits. She was married to the bass player, John McVie, and they split around the same time as Buckingham and Nicks, fueling the breakup album Rumours.
Try "Over my head" or "Songbird". Both have Christine McVie singing lead vocals-beautiful. Her name is Christine, not Kristen. Thanks for the reaction.
"Say You Love Me", "Tell Me Lies", "You Make Loving Fun", "Hold Me", all McVie magic, but my favorite Christine led Fleetwood Mac song has to be "Everywhere", plus the video's storyline is so well done.
Christine McVie is an Artist with a capital A! She sings, plays keyboard and her writing skills are top notch. Already as a young child I got into Fleetwood Mac through this song, “Hold Me” and “Everywhere”. You will love the song "Don't Stop" for its good vibes.
for a little perspective, there are 16 tracks on fleetwood mac's greatest hits album, christine mcvie wrote eight of them, stevie nicks wrote five, and lindsay buckingham wrote three...."hold me" and "over my head" are two of mcvie's best
J & Amber, you'll love their "Silver Spring" from the 1997 concert 'The Dance' and "You Make Loving Fun"!!! Christine McVie has an exellcent voice!! edit- Christine sings lead on several other FMac songs, "You Make Loving Fun", "Everywhere", "Don't Stop(with Lindsey Buckingham)", "Songbird"...
Silver Springs is one of my favorite Stevie songs and the Dance version is wonderful. I used to sing it live when I fronted a band in my twenties. It's enrapturing.
I’m glad you guys are recognising Chistine’s essential qualities within the heart and soul of Fleetwood Mac. She was part of the songwriting trinity that comprised herself, Stevie and Lindsay. Never to be replaced nor forgotten, the band will never be the same again ❤😢
Absolutely my favorite member of the band. Christine wrote and sang "Songbird" from the Rumours album. My wife and I picked that song as our wedding song.
The real magic of Fleetwood Mac was no matter who was singing lead it was going to sound stellar! No matter which one or combination of lead singers they had for a song, it is going to sound fantastic. The more of their songs you listen to the more you will understand that they always chose the best singer(s) for each song. They also wrote songs separately and with each other so there was always variety, different flavors if you will. Buying one of their new albums was always thrilling, you never knew what you were getting from one song to the next! The first song is a sweet love song with Christine and Lindsey in a duet, the second song is an etherial experience with Stevie twirling on stage, and the next song is a Summer rocker with Lindsey on lead. What is the forth song going to be? No idea, but it's going to sound great! Christine, Stevie, and Lindsey are one of the most solid arrangement of lead singers any band could wish for!
I have heard a lot of material from the early days of the band, magnificent musicians producing great work. When Stevie and Lindsey joined the band it elevated to something more. The way their voices just worked so well together and the differing directions of the songwriting talents was nothing short of miraculous. And their ability to step back from their emotional involvments for the Rumours album showed the music industry what proffessionalism truly means.
You guys should react to more Fleetwood Mac… "I'm So Afraid", "Say You Love Me", "Over My Head", "Second Hand News", "Don't Stop", "Gold Dust Woman", "Songbird", "You Make Loving Fun", "I Don't Want to Know", "Oh Daddy", "Sara", "Gypsy", "Sisters of the Moon", "Big Love", "Seven Wonders", "Everywhere", "Family Man" 🎸🤘
As much as i love Fleetwood Mac, Lindsay Buckinghams - Countdown is my favourite song, i just can't describe the place it takes me, it's pure melancholy summer euphoria. i can't hear it without singing.
christine mcvie really shines with songs like "you make lovin' fun" and "over my head", my favourites. i'm more of a stevie fan but without christine, even stevie's songs would sound not quite right. her harmonies (along with lindsey) and her stable presence within the band are imperitive. and it's pronounced chris-TEEN 😊
Fleetwood Mac was a three-headed beast, with lead vocals going to Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks, or Lindsey Buckingham, depending on the song. "Songbird", with Christine on vocals, is a masterpiece.
Christine has a fantastic voice this song along with You make loving fun, Everywhere and Song Bird are Fleetwood Mac staples. You should definitely check out their live concert from 1997 The Dance to see how incredible this band truly is.
Christine McVie has a beautiful voice. Her and Stevie had different sounds and they both complimented each other on songs. My favorite of hers is Over My Head. I love that song.
Decades ago I happened to hear "Over My Head" playing on a local radio station, and when it ended the DJ said, "Christine McVie on lead vocals there...they just don't get any smoother than that." I had to agree.
Reading these comments gives me hope that Christine is getting the respect she deserves. However, I don’t see a lot of people talking about her earlier material with the band, particularly on the ‘Penguin’ and ‘Heroes are Hard to Find’ albums. If anyone wants to deep dive into Christine, they can check out her very early stuff with Chicken Shack, a 60’s blues group before she joined FM. Said sincerely from a Christine Perfect (McVie) super fan!
“Show Me A Smile” from the 1971 album “Future Games” is and absolute gem and a must listen for any Christine McVie fan or FM fan in general. If you never delved back deep into the early Christine albums do yourself a favor and seek out every song she wrote. Fantastic songwriter and singer
Interesting thing: shortly after this song came out (late 1980's), I was listening to some talk show (radio?), where a mother was distraught because her daughter was singing along with this song on the radio, and mom was worried that the culture for kids was going downhill fast if we allowed songs like this to be played...... I'm thinking she probably had a rude awakening in the 90's and beyond when a lot of popular music really went to the garbage pile.
I highly recommend going back to her early days with the band and check out her 1971 song “Show Me A Smile”. You will love it. Christine was always my favorite singer and songwriter in the band. She wrote more of their hits than any other member.
Hi Jay and Amber. Though Stevie Nicks headlines Fleetwood Mac classics like “Rhiannon” and “Dreams”, Christine McVie wrote or co-wrote many of their great songs. Her best is “You Make Lovin’ Fun” along with “Over My Head,” “Don’t Stop," and “Songbird”. She also co-wrote “Hold Me”, a 1982 smash hit.
Christine Mcvie and Lindsay Buckingham are both great singer song writers. Lindsay Buckingham is also a phenomenal guitar player. He also often produces Stevies songs in Fleetwood Mac. Christine is a great blues keyboard.
She is an incredible musician as well as singer. There were lots of romances an jealousies among band members. If you go back to early Mac, there is no Lindsey Buckingham or Stevie. Christine was a lead singer along with Bob Welch who left group. A good early song from album of same name is Bare Trees and another early song is Sentimental Lady.
Stevie gets most of the attention, but Christine has written and was the lead singer on many of Fleetwood Mac's hits; and Lindsey Buckingham, the lead guitarist, also wrote and was the lead singer on some big hits and many of their greatest deep cuts. I love Stevie, but Fleetwood Mac is much more than just her. In fact, they were a moderately successful group before Stevie and Lindsey joined and took the band to superstar status. One of the band's best songs was made before they joined, called "Hypnotized," and it is magical.
Fleetwood Mac were always an all-star line-up, but you kind of think of Stevie and Lindsey as the 'hired guns' teammates, while Mick Fleetwood and Christine MAC-Vie are the 'named partners' of the whole firm. She's literally the Mac in the name of the group.
Fleetwood Mac has three lead singers, it just depends on the song. Lindsey Buckingham also leads and he has a great voice as well. Check out The Chain, Landslide and Don't Stop.
You are right, I am blessed. I found this channel! I've been chain watching your videos since I found them and though I love these songs and grew up with them (I'm 62) seeing young people react as you do make them that much more fun. I'm so sorry you grew up about 20 years to late but so happy you can enjoy this music now! Bless you both!!!
A Lot more great Christine McVie Songs yet to uncover. She has been with the band since 1970 and has played on nearly every one of their albums. Most of their best known (love) songs are from her pen: Spare Me a Little of Your Love, Come a Little bit Closer, Why, Over my Head, Say You Love Me, You Make Loving Fun, Don't Stop, Songbird, Think About Me, Everywhere, As Long As You Follow... so many other great songs too, but that's a start! This summer marks the bands 55th anniversary, by the way.
Like everyone else, I recommend "Songbird," but, equally, the other side of the spectrum, "Don't Stop," which she wrote to her ex-husband, John McVie (the bassist). My soul absolutely vibrates to Stevie's mystical gypsy self but Christine was the warmth and heart of FM. She also wrote most of the band's hits--according to Mick Fleetwood. Just a note: her name is pronounced Chris-teen. 🙂
I really like Christine's voice, she also was willing to accept Stevie into the band although she was already their female singer. She has a sexy voice. Thanks Amber and Jay.
Christine McVie, my favorite Fleetwood Mac member. She wrote the best songs and her voice is sultry, warm and smooth. I love Stevie Nicks, too, don't get me wrong but I've always liked Christine more. Actually, my favorite version of Fleetwood Mac is the original lineup with Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer.
Jay you need to put in context that Christine was the lead singer for Fleetwood Mac before Stevie and Lindsey Buckingham joined the group. Prior to Stevie joining, Christine was known more as a blue singer. She went more "commercial" as the group became more popular. Christine also had several big albums on the Adult Contemporary Charts in between rest periods for Fleetwood Mac.
I love the Stevie fronted songs, but the Christine McVie ones were always my favorites! Her voice is amazing! “Everywhere” is another great Christine fronted F.M. Song.
Nearly every Fleetwood Mac album has an equal number of songs written and sung by each of the three singer/songwriters. If there's 9 songs on the album, each of them have three. So, yes, you guys have missed A LOT of Christine's music.
One of the main reasons FWM had the sound it did was Christie's smooth vocals, whether they be backup or the lead singer. FWM wouldn't have been FWM with Christie.
The three members that defined Fleetwood Mac with their compositions were Lindsay Buckingham, Stevie Nicks and yes, Christine McVie, these three members of the band are those that finally gave the band the identity that made them famous; Mick Fleetwood and John McVie are the core as the almost original members, (John was not at the begging , but it was for a very short time, since he had to finish with the band he was playing with before), those that always were there, but Buckingham, Nicks and Christine McVie were those that, when they incorporated to the band, made it great. Now the sad thing is that precisely today, November the 30th, 2022, Christine McVie has died 😔
If you want to fall in love with Christine listen to "Songbird". Also if you want to hear her solo you should check out her biggest solo hit "Got a Hold On Me"
If you go back and look, most of Fleetwood Mac's biggest hits had Christine as the lead vocal. The strength of this band was that Christine, Lyndsey, and Stevie all had different songs which featured them as the lead. Christine McVie had more of a shy British personality, was not as outspoken and did not seek the limelight like Stevie Nicks did. When performing, she was more comfortable standing behind the keyboard as opposed to Stevie who was doing more dancing. Christine was truly an underrated musician and will be greatly missed. RIP
Lindsay Buckingham is the best arpeggio (finger picking) guitar player out there. Watching his fingers pick the strings so fast (rather than strum) is mind blowing! 🙌
The arrangement of Christine on lead with Stevie backing her up was perfect for this song. You should check out "Hypnotized". Fleetwood before Lindsey and Stevie.
Agree! Hypnotized is probably one of Bob Welch's best known Mac songs (along with Sentimental Lady). If I recall, Hypnotized is the only song from that era that charted in the US. And you're right... knowing their love for Stevie, they will love the mysteriousness of that one too!
Christine and Lindsey are my favorites in Fleetwood Mac. Don't forget Lindsey is a fantastic guitar player and arranged and produced much of their work. Fleetwood sought out Lindsey when they needed a new guitarist and he insisted Stevie come as well. Their diversity made a stronger force in the rock/pop market.
If you guys react to more Fleetwood Mac you'll Find that Christine actually sings lead on several of the popular Fleetwood Mac hits. "You Make Loving Fun", "Say You Love Me", "Songbird" (which Eva Cassidy did a cover of), "Don't Stop", "Hold Me" & "World Turning" (She shares lead with Linsey Buckingham on those last three songs. They are a perfect match up in vocals imo!).
Thanks, never appreciated all the great songs she was the main singer on; Stevie seems to get the most response by reactors especially her videos. Hopefully your list will help guide them and even up the responses.
it's surprising how talented fleetwood mac is as an overall band. not only stevie and christine are good enough to sing lead on songs but so is lindsay buckingham. you should react to "Dont Stop" from there 1977 rumours album. awesome hit song by a 3rd singer in the band. top 5 bands of all time.
The amazing thing about Fleetwood Mac is that they had great songs no matter who was singing lead. The songs with Lindsay Buckingham singing lead are some of my favorites. And wether he's singing or one of the ladies, it's always unmistakeably FM!
One of the things I've always loved about this band were the harmonies between Christine, Stevie and Lindsay. It didn't matter to me who was up front. Although I love Stevie's solo work. There is just something about those three voices coming together that was FREAKING magic! Although the band continues, likely those three will never perform together again. As Lindsay was let go from the band from what I've heard due to recurring disputes with Stevie. But Christine is back.
Christine has a mature mastered voice. Stevie and Christine compliment one another very well. Buckingham is the wild card that makes it all work. Christine was John MacVie's wife back in the day.
Christine McVie played a bigger part in the band than most people realize. As a singer, songwriter, and sort of the glue that held the band together.
Yes, and for years I didn't notice that little whispering vocals interlaced into the background that sounds so ethereal. You have to listen on good equipment to truly appreciate this song.

Christine McVie had a great voice. She never got enough credit for her part in this group. Great song.
Christine may have written more songs for Fleetwood Mac than Stevie, simply because Christine has been with the band for many more years than Stevie. About half of Fleetwood Macs albums studio albums were produced before Stevie joined the band.
I think that Christine's multiple castles in the UK would disagree. She is a wonder
probably because she was a selfish evil bitch
Christine was a dynamic force in the band....we'll miss her
Christine McVie was an important piece of Fleetwood Mac and sang quite a few of the hits. She was married to the bass player, John McVie, and they split around the same time as Buckingham and Nicks, fueling the breakup album Rumours.
she actually had the MOST top ten hits.
Don’t Stop is a Christine song as well, with the assist from Lindsay Buckingham , who is very ignored from these two. Just looking for the gimmick
Great note!
@@boydsprehn2140 thanks!
Would add the group effort World Turning as well; Songbird was a Christine McVie song.
Silver Spring is a great selection, hope they check it out.
Silver Springs is one of my favorite Stevie songs and the Dance version is wonderful. I used to sing it live when I fronted a band in my twenties. It's enrapturing.
@@utcnc7mm Yes!!!
Gotta do Silver Springs from the concert!! Stevie Nicks singing it to her ex Lindsey Buckingham is chilling!!
I’m glad you guys are recognising Chistine’s essential qualities within the heart and soul of Fleetwood Mac. She was part of the songwriting trinity that comprised herself, Stevie and Lindsay. Never to be replaced nor forgotten, the band will never be the same again ❤😢
She's good on "You Make Loving Fun" and "Over My Head"
You guys should react to more Fleetwood Mac…
"I'm So Afraid", "Say You Love Me", "Over My Head", "Second Hand News", "Don't Stop", "Gold Dust Woman", "Songbird", "You Make Loving Fun", "I Don't Want to Know", "Oh Daddy", "Sara", "Gypsy", "Sisters of the Moon", "Big Love", "Seven Wonders", "Everywhere", "Family Man"
🎸🤘
The live version of I'm So Afraid from The Dance DVD is excellent and I'm sure Jay would appreciate Lindsay's guitar playing for that song.
I was lucky enough to see Chicken Shack with Christine Perfect, fabulous night and fabulous band. ✌️
Prove Your Love is so gooood
“Show Me A Smile” from the 1971 album “Future Games” is and absolute gem and a must listen for any Christine McVie fan or FM fan in general. If you never delved back deep into the early Christine albums do yourself a favor and seek out every song she wrote. Fantastic songwriter and singer
It's *Christine* McVie. She was in Fleetwood Mac long before Stevie Nicks. She came from a great British Blues band called Chicken Shack.
Wasn't she in Velvet Underground ?
No, maybe you're thinking of Nico?@@deniseg812
@@deniseg812 NO. You are probably confusing her with Nico, the German singer who was in The Velvet Underground.
Please try "Say You Love Me" & "You Make Lovin' Fun". Both written & sung by Christine. 2 big hits from the band.
“You Make Lovin’ Fun” is a masterpiece. Fleetwood Mac is way more than Stevie Nicks. Although I love Stevie too. You’ll learn!😊❤️
I totally agree!
I agree too
She is an incredible musician as well as singer.
This was my song in the 80s, I am a huge fan of Fleetwood Mac, rest in peace, Christine McVie.
Christie McVie is the keyboard player in Fleetwood Mac. They have 3 main singers.😀
Most of their best known (love) songs are from her pen:
Spare Me a Little of Your Love, Come a Little bit Closer, Why, Over my Head, Say You Love Me, You Make Loving Fun, Don't Stop, Songbird, Think About Me, Everywhere, As Long As You Follow... so many other great songs too, but that's a start!
You know a band are mega stars when any band member can sing lead and everyone loves each and every song they put out. ❤️❤️
Christine McVie was a long-time Fleetwood Mac member. She joined in 1970 and has been a very important component to the band since then.
One of my favorite songs by them. RIP Christine McVie. Love your videos and reactions.
Song.
Listen to “Songbird” .....it’s a great Christine track!
Her name is pronounced “Chris Teen”
Nearly every Fleetwood Mac album has an equal number of songs written and sung by each of the three singer/songwriters. If there's 9 songs on the album, each of them have three. So, yes, you guys have missed A LOT of Christine's music.
One of the main reasons FWM had the sound it did was Christie's smooth vocals, whether they be backup or the lead singer. FWM wouldn't have been FWM with Christie.
If you want more of Christine McVie, 'Everywhere' off the Tango in the Night album is another 'perfect' example 👍
Great song!
Christine has been with the band a lot longer than Nicks. I've always loved her voice
I love Christine's voice. This song is great. She has a lot of great songs.
Christine McVie is just as good as Stevie. I love me some Stevie but some of the songs with Christine as lead are absolute fire!
Christine McVie was a fantastic singer/song writer. She wrote a lot of their music.
kerri 😍
Hello Amber, if you like Christine's voice you should listen to her version of Etta James's I'd Rather Go Blind
R.I.P.Christine McVie - feeling very sad at this news today 😞
If you want to fall in love with Christine listen to "Songbird". Also if you want to hear her solo you should check out her biggest solo hit "Got a Hold On Me"
Rest In Peace to McVie! Condolences to her family and friends. Her legacy lives on through her music!
Big Love by Fleetwood Mac shows off Lindsey Buckingham's talent which is over looked sometimes. He produced all there albums.
RIP
Songbird. Oh Daddy.
Love Fleetwood Mac! Christine has a beautiful voice definitely different from Stevie and Lindsay!
Absolutely.
Hypnotized is my all time favorite
Agree! Hypnotized is probably one of Bob Welch's best known Mac songs (along with Sentimental Lady). If I recall, Hypnotized is the only song from that era that charted in the US.
And you're right... knowing their love for Stevie, they will love the mysteriousness of that one too!
Revelation is also great.
Best song ever
I love Christine's VOICE!
The amazing thing about Fleetwood Mac is that they had great songs no matter who was singing lead. The songs with Lindsay Buckingham singing lead are some of my favorites. And wether he's singing or one of the ladies, it's always unmistakeably FM!
Thank you for this reaction. The beautiful voices of Christie and Stevie are fabulous.
