I think that J-POP is characterized not by catchy melodies, but by the haiku culture in Japan and the sharing of feelings with others. I think that the storytelling they talk about includes the complexity of the lyrics that result from these things.
Indeed! And the way some scenery or a snapshot of time is often evoked , rather than straightforward expression, is also a unique side of JPop in my opinion. Perhaps even like how 'the moon is beautiful tonight' is used to express love for someone.

He made a pre-music video searching many images on the internet and presented to the producer of the music video. They’re trying to make their work of arts by themselves.
