- In this episode of India Upfront, we analyze PM Modi's unapologetic display of Sanatan pride at Kumbh. While Bharat receives the 'Sandesh,' the I.N.D.I.A bloc appears unsettled, mocking it as a mere 'photo-op for votes.' A day after his bold '4th term' hint, does 'Aastha' drown the doubts? Devotion gives strength & conviction. In Hinduism, among 5 senses, visual connect (darshan) to Divine at the holy place & at temples where the idol has been historically installed with specific rituals (Pran Pratistha) is given primacy to invoke Deity to bestow specific blessings & strength to the devotees. Maha Kumbh is such pious place.
In Sanatan Dharma (Eternal Religion), one-size does not fit all. There are many Gods & Goddesses in Sanatan Dharma (Hindu religion) because requirement of blessings, power & inspiration are different in different individuals & also vary at different lifetime of the same individual. A student recites prayers invoking blessings of Saraswati, a soldier prays before Durga, a ruler before Lord Rama & a singer before Mother Sharda - all to acquire excellence for the purpose of their existence in the world, which is their divine ordained Duty. Such prayers have potential to bestow excellence to all segments of society unlike other religions where one size fits all.
In Gita, Krishna revealed himself as the divine Vishnu & directly gave sermons to Arjuna about life & duties of an individual emphasizing the principles of creation, preservation & annihilation. It is considered as the real revelation & guidance from God without distortion through intermediary prophets.
For this reason Krishna is also called Jagadguru (Teacher of the World).
In the Bhagavad Gita (IX. 23-25), Krishna proclaims that the devotees who worship other deities are in fact worshipping Him; and that those who offer worship to various other deities reach the goals they desire. Before war of Mahabharata, even Krishna prayed before Durga to bless him with victory which symbolized that various deities represent specific powers, blessings & inspirations of God which the devotees must seek in the fulfilment of their duties. PM Modi has understood this blessing in Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism).
