    I did a kill&till on my entire yard in fall of 2020 because the front was covered in Dalisgrass. Replanted tall fescue (Scott's Southern Gold) and now just fighting Bermuda outbreaks and knocking the neighbors dallisgrass down (digging or 41$ glyphosate).

    I was trying to Tread Dallisgrass like it was Crabgrass to no avail for 3 years. Now that I’ve determined it’s actually Dallisgrass In 2 seasons I have finally gotten rid of 90% of it. However, that doesn’t mean it’s over because there are still seeds in the soil. The battle continues but I’ve definitely got in front of the Dallisgrass Madness.

    I had a yard that was totally overtaken by weeds, including dallisgrass, crabgrass, nimblewill, nutsedge, carpetgrass, dandelions, clover, etc. I have done the following in order since March: 2,4-D, Weed & Feed, Quinclorac, Celsius WG + Revolver, and getting ready to try Tenacity. Almost everything else is gone, but the dallis is literally waving and smiling at me as I spray it. All it has done is turn a little purple.
    So, by late September, I want to dethatch, aerate, and overseed with a cool season mix (I live in NC, but like the cool grasses better). I'm almost certain I will still have the dallis, because I am attempting to kill it in June...not good. So, if I go out in October (again with the Celsius + Revolver) to attempt once again to kill this stuff....won't it kill the overseeding I put down in late September? Is there any way to attempt to overseed but also kill this simultaneously??

    • @DietBajaBlast
      @DietBajaBlast 3 года назад +4

      Literally do this: mix up glyphosate at 4oz / gallon. With a small brush, brush the leaves of the dallisgrass with the glyphosate. Do not let the brush touch any grass or drip. Then follow up 14 days later with the same process. The dalllisgrass will be smoked.

      Me too. Eastern NC. Threw out pre emergent in march (bio advance 5n1) that worked pretty well and I’d say that it prevented 75% of what I had last year. The other 25% has spread and some come out of the neighbors yard. Got goose grass,long crabgrass and Dallas grass and some recycled nutsedge, clovers, and burrweed. Sprayed quinclorac, works on broadleaf and nothing else really. Im getting tenacity.
      I got turf titan liquid dethatcher and it says it’s an aerator too. Putting that down tomorrow and maybe a liquid aerator as well if I don’t like results. Check out that stuff for sure. Also bagging all the clipping for the past couple of mows.
      Have centipede but some Bermuda has gotten in and choking out my centipede, so I hope the tenacity will knock all this extra out.

    • @jimbo5635
      @jimbo5635 2 года назад +3

      The producer of the product has to test and prove it safe for residential use. This cost money. Often the maybe a product that is approved for agriculture use, that would be safe for use in yards, but the manufacturer doesn't want to pay for testing to get approved. This testing has to be redone every so often, IIRC ten years. If the the product didn't sell well or if there was problems with the use on residential lawns, the company may not pay or be able to get it reapproved for residential use.

      Arsenic was getting in well water around lawns that were routinely treated with MSMA. It’s still legal for farmers to use, golf courses and other commercial properties. That probably has more to do with lobbying efforts than actual safety concerns

    Dallisgrass or crabgrass, my primary approach is the same. I spend a few minutes each evening walking my lawn looking for these buggers sprouting up! After a day of my normal work (engineering), this is somewhat therapeutic. Thankfully my lawn is small! :)
    My real nemesis is fescue! I have Bermuda grass. Many of my neighbors have planted fescue under their trees and some have full fescue lawns. And I get clumps of it on the edge of my lawn. And my approach is the same, pulling it. This stuff is way harder to pull than a patch of crabgrass! This year I tried a little spot treatment with Roundup. So far, so good.
    I had a weird weed in my lawn this year. It was very flat at the base of the stalk. And it sprouted a few leaves that shot straight up from the base. It was difficult to pull. Any idea what this weed might have been?
    Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Guys like you are invaluable to the folks like us.......that are too cheap to hire a lawn guy! :P

After all, a bottle of this stuff would last quite a while for spot treatment. Thanks for the advice! :)

Was wondering if you could share information on lawn fungus, namely brown patch (i.e. identification, treatment recommendations - curative and preventive, treatment intervals, prevention, etc.). When I bought my house 10 years ago, lawn would be beautiful until mid-June. Then it started looking terrible with large thinning, bald and browning areas. I had much anxiety because I did not know if I had applied too much fertilizer, not enough fertilizer, etc. Only after five years of having this pattern repeat did I finally find out about lawn fungus (I have TTTF grass). Now anytime my lawn gets slightly brown, my stomach knots up. Thanks!
