Use boiled, cooled water to keep them moist to prevent mould and step further is add a little surgical alcohol and vegetable glycerin in the mix and put In a spray bottle. They can be a bit chalky Hastings yay. Loved your painting.

I agree that they're really fun for playful and casual use!
If people get frustrated with consistency, streakiness or opacity, it's the lack of quality in these paints though. The muddy-ness you had is also because of the quality and not a skill issue. You can get really nice results with them but painting with them takes me twice as long as with my Winsor & Newton ones.
I've had my set for several years now and it completely dries up when I don't use it for several months. I just put lots of water in the wells and let that sit overnight, then they're usable again.

I love how both paintings turned out looking like the collage pieces you’ve created. Just like your style. They’re both really nice. Bravo Em!

I advise using a pallet knife to remove some and put into a separate pallet and/or empty half/full pans and rewet them for a more controlled experience. Re wet them around 8 minutes before painting or take out fresh using a pallet knife to use from wet. This completely avoids contamination. I have a few other tips if people want to know as I love HimI gouache and have been using it for years!

I love your whimsical floral painting. It's so nice to see you do something in that style again. I would love to see more of that. I fell in love with your art for the Bug Hotel project and have followed you ever since. I'm so glad that you had fun making art again. I wish that it was that way for you always. Thank you for sharing!

Mine have stayed moist for nearly 3 years now by putting in a snaplock bag then adding the top snap lid on, no need to add water or glycerine… they’re only just starting to dry out now. As yours doesn’t have a middle palette like the smaller palettes do to have between the paint and the snaplock bag, I’d probably cut a piece of large hard plastic to put on first before putting in a large snaplock bag… to keep the bag clean

i had the smaller sets 12 and 24 set has enough colours for me but had mine for years though they are dried up, i have a spray made by Himi for them which i think has a chemical in them, i just spray and water mix them. I also bought a separate white to top up. I dont use them that much but there really good.Make sure the lid is tight shut as its does pop up at the side. The good thing is if you get the smaller sets there really cheap now, so no problem. i probably wouldnt get a larger set as it would overwhelm me and all that stirring. I think 24 is enough for beginners or hobby painting ,Love your painting

These paintings turned out so so pretty!! I especially love the handkerchief the grasshopper is wearing 💖
I've had the HIMI 56 gouache set for over a year, I don't use it often but I haven't had any issues with it so far! I'm very careful about contaminating the paints and always keep the lid shut tight when I'm finished with using them. Even if they look dry/hardened and I haven't opened them for a few weeks or months, they still reactivate easily with a spray bottle.

I actually leave these paints out to dry out for a few days. I find that I can control them better when I add the water myself. As always love watching you create. ❤❤❤

hi Em! i love your work. what paint do you use to paint your paper usually? acrylic?

  • @robertadias2020

A tip to avoid mold is to put a drop of clover oil once in a while (I usually do this every two months if I use it regularly and to keep a long time I put 3 drops, mix it and leave it). This is a good thing to do cause it's very humid inside cause we don't want the paint to dry and if a tiny spore of mold gets in, it'll spread very fast and besides not really change the paint in the short time it'll change the color after a while on the paper and it can be toxic for us to breath it (don't ignore it like I did, allergies will come)

I love the boat painting,,but I think It looks a little dull, but that isn't your faultIt's just the paint.
The,,watery liquid "is the binder of the color🙃

I meant to say that you can put them in the refrigerator. Then you don’t have to worry about mold or drying out much.
