    I thought the Strix models WAS the Scar. Didn't realise they are two different product lines. Bit confusing when they are almost identical in terms of specs.

      @lava1rain 2 месяца назад

      Strix is basically the same hardware and has the 500nit IPS Nebula Display. The Strix Scar cost more and the only reason for this is that it has a MiniLED 1100nit Nebula HDR display

    What’s the CAS latency on the ddr5? Frequency doesn’t mean it’s faster, you have to take into account both frequency and CAS latency. If it’s a CL40 5600, the CL34 4800 will still be faster. Ram wont get any faster till you get into the CL38 6400 ddr5. Also, rank has nothing to do with what side the nands are on. A one sided card can still be dual rank, that all depends on how it’s wired through the board layers, as well as what nands are used.

    my strix scar 15 g533qs (5900hx / RTX 3080 16GB / 32GB RAM / 2TB SSD) died after lil more than 2 years, beside that i was stuck with that bios problem where 3k RPM where just missing for several months (until next bios update). i will stay away from asus for my entire lifetime, 3100€ e-waste. my most expensive and yet shortest lasting unit ive ever experienced, maintainability was a nightmare too. i never had a single model where the screws were so tight that u cant get them off withot destroying the screws head, in that unit i had 2 of those screws (1 cpu screw and 1 ssd screw), i always use precision tools from wera or swiss pb (it doesnt get much better than this regarding quality). only reason i still got that unit is cuz i dont want to throw it away as it was a huge invest for me.
    im 39 and started building my first own pc when i was 16, im not a guru but i know what im doing, this asus laptop was a nightmare to me.

    Coil whine and high cpu temps will always drive me away from Asus models.

    • @GizmoSlipTech
      @GizmoSlipTech  8 месяцев назад +17

      I asked Asus directly about this. They said when complaints first came in last year, they added a quiet db room quality check pass to their manufacturing line to ensure each laptop didn’t have anything making loud noise.
      But I wonder if they are testing under the right parameters to force out coil whine, which mainly happens when the laptop is under stress and the fans are set to run quietly (silent or performance fan modes). Turbo fan noise drowns out the cooil whine imo.
      That said, the Asus Rep did make it sound like they specifically addressed the coil whine issue. But I had a comment of someone still complaining about it in 2024. We'll see if I have any on my Scar 18 2024 version.

I've got my processor boosting upwards of 5.1ghz in games and still staying below mid 80s under the heaviest of loads on things like battlefield 2042 which I was getting around 150fps on at qhd ultra

    • @dronk0122
      @dronk0122 7 месяцев назад

      The main difference is that you will not have an RGB Logo on the lid and the laptop's rear. Additionally, you can only go up to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 on the Strix G model rather than the 4090 in the top-end SCAR models. Finally, you will have better RAM timings on the SCAR models, and slightly faster CPU performance even though the 14th gen CPUs are only 10% faster at 65W than at 55W in the 2023 model. I know this because I have the 2023 model of the ROG Strix G18.

    I hope someone on here can help me! I am gonna be a first time buyer for a gaming laptop and I’ve done months on research and still can’t decide. I’m looking for something around 2.2K in cost, for games like Far Cry, Sims 4 (Loads of Mods and CC) RDR2 etc. Kind of tired rotating turns with my boyfriend to play on the PS5. I’m really stuck between Asus ROG Strix G18 (2024) Nebula HD / Core i9 / 32 GB Mem / RTX 4070 1TB SSD - Or the Legion Slim 7i 16” core i9 16GB memory / RTX 4070 1TB SSD. 😭😭 the reviews on these are so so mixed. Seeking any advice and help! I’ve looked into desktops but bringing it in to where I live (off grid island) will be paying double the price because of customs.

    I have a specific question if you don't mind. My laptop has its control center software. Before I gave their for cleaning and thermal paste like a month ago, its " High performance" mode gave me around +4GHz of CPU speed during idle when I checked from Task manager. Now it gives 1.9-2.02 GHz which is half. My question is can you change specific mode CPU power output from BIOS because the keyboard color also changed to "RGB" when I took the laptop. I have a feeling that they updated the BIOS and now it has lower CPU power than before

      Scar 18 has Mini-LED display, brighter, more contrasty (1000 nits peak). Scar 18 has better speakers. RGB light up logo. RGB Rear Light bar. Same cooling, same base chassis though slightly different exterior. Strix G18 is the bang for the buck version, while the Scar 18 is all the bells and whistles version.
