How to Hire Workers on a Farm

- Опубликовано: 29 фев 2024
- The front desk can be absolutely a determinant of your down fall in Business and in Goat farming, this is not any different. Workers are a key component to a successful farm business. Your choice of who to work with is a direct trigger to your business success. We discuss this and more in todays episode.
On my farm I employed neighbors thinking it would help bringing camaraderieship as I had bought the land among and from them. Disappointment. Absenteeism due to burials, sicknesses of family, market days off duty etc then pilferage and THEFT. I have stopped that. Can only employ locals as casuals but farm items still get lost once in a while. So now I will only employ far-off workers for effective farm work.
It's very tough for sure
My friend have been stressed with neighbours just know
Employing neighbors or people with in the village is like looking for more people to hate you around your village 😅😅😅I almost ran away from my own village just because of such but after realizing my mistake I had to go far to Busoga region and brought people who didn’t even understand my own language even they had no way to communicate to people around me because of language barrier hence success in the farm
@@susannaatuhaire8636 At times I feel they envy what I am doing as I came from 40 miles away and bought ‘their’ land and now gaining from it.
Is it ok to employ the ones that say they drink alcohol?
Thank you for the education, I am a farmer from Ghana, this information is great and timely.
I've never thought about some of this information. I have to watch it again. Thank you so much!
I run a small poultry ka farm, I recruited as far up Northern Uganda coz local boys I find don’t like working, local people play around a lot, my guys from karamoja means business. No burial nonsense, no last funeral rights nonsense and all the excuses which come with unserious people.
This is perfect. Here is a new vibrant farmer from Tanzania known as MVINA FARM .
Thank you madam
We appreciate your technical advice, next time, please, inform us on maintaining high security at the farm and dealing with nearbours
Sure
I have learnt a lot Grace. These are things that no school or college will teach you. Thanks for being generous and selfless with such vital information.
Wonderful insights! However, according to my experience with Farm workers especially with regard to an Insider Referral (Already Existing Labourer) is that when you are not careful,if they come from the same area or family, they tend to gang up in decision making!!
Trouble comes when the senior one is unethical or wants salary increase,s/he will mislead those s/he brought in!On the other side,if one of them has committed a crime eg.Stolen something they tend to cover up each other!.
Therefore, only use a referral when you are sure the one referring is the best, disciplined and very ethical beyond even yourself.
Above all, when you get the best labourers ensure you treat them as colleagues as opposed to widening the gap between you and them!Form a Farm Gang sort of crew!
Thank you very much
Tips you have given in this video are quite important and we help a lot of farm entrepreneurs avoid the Mistakes we make when it comes to hiring of farm workers. Thanks once again

So nice of you
Wow, you have just touched of the pain points that I have endured on my little tiny farm. Thank you for your insights, really makes sense to be organized and intentional about hiring. What would be your advice on management of the workers once they have settled into the job? This is a big one for me as I am many miles away from action. Thx
Clear job description
Clear out the incentives
Have a leader they answer to
Have a team for grievance handling
Clear communicatiojn
Good lessons in Human Resource Management, wonderful.
Thank you so much Grace Bwogi for such an insightful explanqtion....we are going through a horrible period right now of farm workers that are only there, waiting for month end. Then they leave.
We are at work from Monday to Friday and what happens during the week we dont know. The neighbours also have a negative influence on the workers we employ, either by coming to chit chat or getting vegetables vegetables for free.
We are so overwhelmed and dont know what to do.
Sorry about that. Get a surpervisor
Sorry about that. Get a surpervisor

Hello bwogi , am patrick, how can I make a decision of joining farming coz I have land but I don't want to leave urban life ....please I need your advice
Patrick, these people just visit the farm a few times a month, and you don't need to live on the farm.
😂😂 then you become a telephone farmer @@pamtoka2988

Good tips Grace. Why would you at the point of profiling a worker ask if they have spouses. What is the importance of this?
If one has a spouse would you let them live with them in the farm? Give reasons please and keep up the splendid work.

how much do you pay the workers especially the goat keepers
Thank you Grace 🤙🏽
My experience with getting workers from existing workers is, when they decide to leave, they will all leave at once then ur stuck
🙌🏾🙌🏾 they can choose to connive and all leave.
How much should one pay the workers?
Miss Bwogi ,youre very smart 😘…future wife 😍😁

🤣🤣
Okay
Thank you so much madam grace coz you have just saved me for today, tromro purposes
Wonderful!
if your a kenyan you do farming in kenya .
Hello boss
Value farm has someone from the north.
Rarerly do they make good herdsmen. May be great askaris
You're tribalistic mum!😂
Okay
Hi Grace, do you have some excess Bakiga for hiring? I would like one or two. You were right in your analysis of workers from the north. Even us we are struggling with our boys from up there and willing to get workers from else where.
Pick al Leaf
This woman's excessive focus on tribe is concerning. Such an attitude is unhealthy, and I wouldn't recommend anyone to adopt it. It's rather distasteful.
But if you are into farming, then u will understand that some tribes are good in certain kinds of work. She's right.
ThAnk you for understanding
Her counsel is based on practical experience on the ground, and she is free to have her opinion, take or leave. You can't force Bwogi Farm to hire every Tom Dick and Harry.
Thankz all great info that u give us plz where can I contact u ?
Thanks Madame fr sharing those precious informations from Drcongo Kinshasa

Thank you for the education, I am a farmer from Ghana, this information is great and timely.
