Many thanks for presenting this utterly fascinating tale! Algernon Blackwood is one of the most astonishing writers I have ever read, and yet it’s almost impossible to find much information on his life. The only photos that seem to exist of him date to his old age in the 1940s, at which time he hosted a popular BBC radio show and read his own stories aloud. He is said to have been very well-trained in metaphysics and had been a valued member of the original Order of the Golden Dawn in London during the 1890s. But there seem to be almost no further biographical facts available. A man of mystery...and by all accounts, a very personable and congenial man too! I picture him as having been a great deal like his fictional creation, Dr. Silence. I suspect that he gave his character that name for a reason!⭐️
As a stay-at-home dad I am very thankful for this channel. Being stuck for hours with a sleeping baby, or in the kitchen at least I can listen to good stories! Thank you, Ian & Jen
Mr. Mudge must’ve saved a lot of time and money on travel - even though he had no say on his iteneraries. Interesting and - as usual - well narrated and acted. Thanks again.
Well that was interesting. Only Blackwood could contrive such a masterpiece of intellectual drama. The riveting narration was as always key. Thank you you Sir.
As usual, Algernon Blackwood has revealed a brilliant diadem of a story. His (Dr. Silence's) "intelligent sympathy" for his client, Mudge, rings true to his nature, rich in benevolence.
I absolutely love your tellings of Blackwood! I wish you'd do more because he's my favorite writer on earth rn (from your audio/influence alone) and nothing compares to HB.
Checked my phone to find a new story from my favourite channel. So I have made a cuppa with a few biscuits,(bourbons) and will enjoy a late night's horror story. Thanks once again for a fantastic way to end another day in lockdown.
Hello dear Horror Babble. Thank you for creating such wonderful and interesting videos. You bring enrichment and joy to many people. Keep doing what you do, just wanted to say that, now I shall listen to your story, whilst I do art, all the best UWU
The title is impossible to resist until bed time, here we go! ...it's got me thinking about geometry, pretty cool. Oh yeah, tesseract magick is fun, it probably won't kill you but it has driven at least one person over the edge. (The correspondences have to add to 137 for the construct to have the most stability. R.I.P Ebony Anpu, Frater 137, inventor and good friend).
The author uses the vehicle of Mr. Mudge's state to express his grasp of very old understanding. To put it simply, "Thar's more Troof 'n Poetry to 'im!"
Actually, it’s the other way round, Lovecraft took the idea from Blackwood, who published the Silence stories more than a decade before most of the Cthulhu mythos pieces appeared. Lovecraft even quotes Blackwood in a preface to one of his works and praises him extensively in his critical work. Although Blackwood ultimately outlived Lovecraft, he was much less active and creative in his later years.
@@JasonJason210 obviously, but just as obvious far more people, even those outside of the English speaking populations, recognize HPL than Blackwood. They're even still making HPL based movies. If you want to communicate to a larger audience, you have to use references they have a chance of understanding.
This "Study in multidimensionality of Space" shows above approach AB's deeper understanding of things beyond material. I wonder if it would be possible and of interest to others to record some short biography pieces about these authors. As an addition to the wonderful respective collections of tales in your excellent narrating style ? ;)
Those were good fun. Doc Silence kinda reminds me of santa claus. He's all twinkly eyed and bearded and vaguely magical, and he gives everything away for free. X]
He mentions names mentioned in a book I'm currently reading, 'Physics and Philosophy by Werner Heisenberg'. It is weird because it keeps happening with other videos and books, otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it. It's hard to explain just a tad uncanny.
Have you ever read *The Secrets of Doctor Taverner”* by Dion Fortune? John Richard Taverner is very similar. Granted his young disciple can be a bit racist, but the book is awesome
From early years I feared that I will suddenly lose gravitational attraction and will be flung from earth and will have to see that the earth and the entire solar system is speeding away from me. Or that I will fall into jupiter (I have a mental illness that makes me fear butterflies and jupiter and Saturn has those patters found on butterfly wings). Space, specially futurism was one of my most favourite subjects but now I shun from them.
As always, love your readings! Keep them coming!
I love Algernon Blackwood and how you're able to effectively articulate just how articulate he is with the details
Anytime Algernon Blackwood’s name comes up I go ahead and like before the listen. Keep up the fantastic work!

From writing, production, narration and the tales themselves all six have been extraordinary.
I appreciate you reading these classic horror tales. My father use to read these to me a great many years ago.
This story is another outstanding one. I just adore Silence's case studies. Have a splendid weekend. Thank you. 💖💖

Thanks as always for your narration!📖📚📖
Yes! Another Silence story! Beautiful, thank you, Ian.
These case studies are some of my favorites! Thanks again for all your hard work. :)

This was a really lovely listen. Thank you!! 😊💖
I can’t believe it’s been a year since John Silence #1. Time sure does fly. Not that the psychic doctor seems to notice.
Thank you !
Ready Ian. Always ready for more Silence. Lol

Best John Silence reader yet 🥃🥳

Blackwood's cosmic horror predates Lovecraft's by about twenty years, and is much better crafted literature.

Remember my friends to always think pleasantly of Mr. Mudge, affectionately if you can.
Fool? Dead? Tsk, pshaw and nonsense!
As we all know!
Keep up the good work fella and stay safe.
Is this really the final Silence performance we are getting? Noooooooo!!!
No one narrates as well, or sounds as convincing as Ian Gordon...I just wish Lovecraft had written more, so you could read it to us.
