Can you share why your screen wasn't working and the steps you took to fix it (after updating your ram)? It will help others if they come across the same issue.
After installing everything and putting it all back together I faced the original problem(blank screen) after taking everything apart AGAIN- I think the ram card wasn't in ALL the way. That seemed to work! Thanks :)
If i were to remove the cdrom drive and replace it with a caddy , what size of caddy should i use ? I wanted to have both hdd and ssd. Mainly ssd for the operating system.
So let me get this straight ....asus and other companies will say the RAM upgrade for this computer can do 2400mhz ddr4 ram but it actually must have 2133mhz??? This is correct?? My screen is blank after putting in 2400mhz :(
This was very helpful, I've been looking for a tear down video and had a lot of trouble till I found this! But I still have a question. Any idea where the CMOS battery is on this model? I have power and hd lights, but a blank screen and can't get the computer to enter into BIOS through powering on and holding F2. So it seems like a big suggestion is to disconnect the CMOS battery to get a reset, but I can't find any sign of it. Thanks!
This laptop doesn't have a CMOS battery. If you're having trouble reaching the BIOS after upgrading the ram, more than likely the ram isn't installed correctly (very finicky) or you purchased an incompatible frequency.
@@OmegaRed7159 Thanks so much for your reply! That makes me feel so much better that there's a reason why I couldn't find it anywhere! I actually installed the RAM a few months ago and it has been fine since then. My problem with the blank screen has been since the firmware update for this model came out last week. After I installed it, it tried to restart and hasn't moved on from only a blank screen with power light and fan running since then. I further made the mistake of inserting the HD into my wife's identical computer to try to retrieve documents. It immediately took me to BIOS and I inadvertently installed the firmware update on it with the same result. So now I have two unresponsive computers, that both don't have CMOS batteries, so as far as I understand I can't reset the BIOS for them? Do you see any other way of getting a proper version of BIOS restored besides that? Thanks!
@@beediesbee It sounds you did the upgrade from Windows, which "bricked" your machine. Check out post #7, rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?111436-GL502VSK-Bricked-BIOS-Update
@@OmegaRed7159 Wow, that is exactly the same behavior that my laptop has had! Except the solution is not working for me! I really appreciate you digging that up, as it is giving me further hope, but so far I haven't found the right way to get the computer to respond to the USB or my key presses in order to get it to boot in BIOS. I've tried the keystrokes suggested in the thread (CTRL + Home and power), I've tried F2 which is what is listed in the user manual for powering up in BIOS. And I've tried other online suggestions from ESC to F5. I also tried both the newest version of BIOS and the previous one. The .BIN filename is what I modified the BIOS file to, and removing the extra AS letters. But no results on the screen at all. I've also tried different USBs. They have all flashed like they're being accessed, but no result. The one difference I've found from this forum post above is that I can't get the USBs to flash in the left USB port that is next to the HDMI port, only in the right(front) USB port. But I'm not sure that should make a big difference. Any other suggestions are still appreciated, as I'm traveling in Africa for another 8 months and don't have a way to bring it to a skilled repair person!
Hi, thanks for the video. I have a question. Asus told me that the laptop comes with a soldered onboard 4GB memory chip like you said. (sorry for my english, i'm doing my best considering that I'm from Argentina), and the said that I can't replace or upgrade the ram bacause it is soldered.
I bought the ram that this guy bought and it didn’t work. I needed the 2400 speed ram so even tho I have the same exact model laptop my mother board is different. If you take the numbers off the motherboard you can go online to figure out what you need. I bought this computer brand new and it was basically useless until I installed the extra 8g ram. It’s still not the fastest computer in the world but now with the extra ram it’s a decent useable computer. I don’t do anything crazy with the laptop but it was just so damn slow before. I’m going to install a solid state drive next week so that will be even better. I also will be using a wireless usb WiFi adapter so I can have 5g which will help the internet speeds too!

Thank you! imma try this later hope this laptop will be faster for a bit. well ram can't really be a performance changer because of it's cpu and gpu bottleneck if we'll op to upgrade it to 12gb ram.
It is a performance changer, just not for gaming or cpu intensive tasks. The ram and harddrive upgrades will drastically improve multitasking and application load time. This upgrade is ideal for the average user who uses this laptop for taks such as school, work, email, videos, pictures, or internet. browsing. The stock version of the laptop is extremely sluggish for basic tasks.
Well your recommended updated ram wouldn't work in my system. It just black screened. I'm updating bios and will try reinstalling it. The ssd took just fine.
Question. I’m gonna buy this computer brand new, and also those two things u said to buy (ram and hard drive I believe) and follow the steps like you show on the video. You can tell by now that I’m a rookie that has no idea but with good tutorials I do aright... So my question is...do I have to “clone” anything or do anything with the ram and hard drive or the computer before replacing the ram and the hard drive? Or I can just replace the ram and hard drive before even turning the computer on for the first time ever? Because what I mean is the computer is new....so it has no files or pictures or anything....do I have to do that “cloning” u were doing? Or not? Please that would really help and thank you!!!!!
You don't clone the ram. You only clone your harddrive if you want to transfer your other system over to this new one. If you don't mind starting fresh and have a Windows OS Software/Serial to boot on, you can do that too.

Thank you for the video/tutorial. I recently purchased the same laptop. Task Manager shows my RAM speed as 2400 MHz. CPU-Z shows 931.4 MHz (1862.8), so who knows? I would probably go with your advice based on your trial and error and install 1866 MHz RAM if I decided to upgrade. @@OmegaRed7159 Perhaps they have different "versions" of the same model. I double checked the model # and it is X441BA-CBA6A. I have known CPU-Z to report incorrect values on occasion. BTW, I purchased the laptop for $129 at MicroCenter, so I will probably initially just swap out the HDD for a SSD. My cloning/backup software (Acronis True Image Home) does not work on the laptop, because it is formatted as GPT not MBR, so I will have to look for something else to do the cloning. Thanks for all your recomendations, well received. I need to upgrade my laptop, and this video is gonna help me so much. Can you tell me other tips to upgrade it?
Very good tutorial, very detailed ... thanks 🙏

Just finished upgarding my lappy.
Its same series but with amd A9.
As you said, I use Vgen ddr4 4gb 2133Mhz.
It runs at 1866Mhz, I think its because motherboard default configuration.
Before upgarding, task manager and Cpuid also shows the speed at 1866Mhz.
To anyone there who wants to upgarde this lappy. Yoy must make sure to use 2133Mhz Ram and correctly put the Ram on the slot or you wont even reach bios like what happened to me.

Thank you for your response. I'm truly sorry but we have provided the available information that we can about this unit and upgrading the RAM. 1866 mhz would be considered the speed at which the unit reads the RAM. We are also unable to state a specific third party dealer for sourcing the part. Also, ensure you're using the latest BIOS version.

Hi Daniel. It was really cool and helpful. I am going to upgrade my ram on my asus. It's same as yours. Do you think I can use local brand RAM with spreed 2400 or it should be 2133? Thanks for your help.

I'm glad you got the screen working after the ram install. What was the problem you ran into and how did you fix it?
I like to use GIMP. It's a powerful Photoshop alternative.

My screen is blank after putting in 2400mhz :(
Hi Daniel, Do you think SK Hynix 8GB PC4-2400T would work with this PC ?
Which software do you use for cloning windows files ??
Thanks!

And what’s the question?..
The laptop has another slot👍
Can this laptop’s Video card be upgraded? Thank you for the video, following it to upgrade memory and HD. Thanks
Thanks boss

Thanks for the video. I followed his directions, however, I was unsuccessful with my memory. The 980gb SSD worked perfectly. But the Corsair 8gb 2133Mhz DDR4 CL 15 memory didn't work. The notebook turns on, but does not turn on the screen. Despite turning on the cooler, the screen goes black, causing a memory problem. Do you have any suggestions for me?

Yeah I'm having the exact same issue
Thank you! imma try this later hope this laptop will be faster for a bit. well ram can't really be a performance changer because of it's cpu and gpu bottleneck if we'll op to upgrade it to 12gb ram.

Edit: Although when I go to Crucial's website and enter the exact model of the laptop, they say DDR4-2400 SODIMM is "Guaranteed Compatible".
If the default onboard ram shows 2400mhz, you do not have this exact model.
I may just do a clean install of Windows 10, as I have recovered the product key.
