    Great guide, good pacing, much better than the other ones I found.
    A couple of notes:
    1. After I installed a 4GB module, the system recognized it but no longer saw the SSD I had installed months before. Removing the memory brought the SSD back. It was a bit of a puzzle but I found a BIOS update on ASUS's website and after flashing that the system now sees the RAM and the SSD.
    2. I installed a DDR4 2400 module and that speed works fine. In my experience, DDR memory that is rated faster than the system accepts will always run at the slower speed. So even if the built in memory is 2166 then a 2400 module will be happy to run at the slower speed. This has been the case with DDR 1, 2, 3 and now 4.

    @d2infinity - Apparently, Asus made 2 versions of the x441BA. I went to their spares site and they offer 2 upgrade modules, an 8GB 2133 and a 2400 mhz. They note to check your installed memory before ordering the part. Your machine may happen to be a 2133 ghz model but, to be sure, I would check the specs of the modules soldered on the to board before buying the upgrade. The soldered on modules are located on the board directly below the fixture to install the upgrade module.

If there weren't too many models in the scene, it did fine with 3D CAD as well but I wouldn't try to start a business with it. You can do simple stuff with 3DS Max but rendering would take forever. This laptop wasn't really meant for that and adding more RAM certainly helps but isn't enough to get any real work done. Blender might work pretty well on it, though I haven't tried it yet.

    This was very helpful, I've been looking for a tear down video and had a lot of trouble till I found this! But I still have a question. Any idea where the CMOS battery is on this model? I have power and hd lights, but a blank screen and can't get the computer to enter into BIOS through powering on and holding F2. • @OmegaRed7159
      @OmegaRed7159  5 лет назад +1

      This laptop doesn't have a CMOS battery. If you're having trouble reaching the BIOS after upgrading the ram, more than likely the ram isn't installed correctly (very finicky) or you purchased an incompatible frequency.

      @beediesbee 5 лет назад

      @@OmegaRed7159 Thanks so much for your reply! That makes me feel so much better that there's a reason why I couldn't find it anywhere! I actually installed the RAM a few months ago and it has been fine since then. My problem with the blank screen has been since the firmware update for this model came out last week. After I installed it, it tried to restart and hasn't moved on from only a blank screen with power light and fan running since then. I further made the mistake of inserting the HD into my wife's identical computer to try to retrieve documents. It immediately took me to BIOS and I inadvertently installed the firmware update on it with the same result. So now I have two unresponsive computers, that both don't have CMOS batteries, so as far as I understand I can't reset the BIOS for them? Do you see any other way of getting a proper version of BIOS restored besides that? Thanks!

I really appreciate you digging that up, as it is giving me further hope, but so far I haven't found the right way to get the computer to respond to the USB or my key presses in order to get it to boot in BIOS. I've tried the keystrokes suggested in the thread (CTRL + Home and power), I've tried F2 which is what is listed in the user manual for powering up in BIOS. And I've tried other online suggestions from ESC to F5. I also tried both the newest version of BIOS and the previous one. The .BIN filename is what I modified the BIOS file to, and removing the extra AS letters. But no results on the screen at all. I've also tried different USBs. They have all flashed like they're being accessed, but no result.
      The one difference I've found from this forum post above is that I can't get the USBs to flash in the left USB port that is next to the HDMI port, only in the right(front) USB port. But I'm not sure that should make a big difference. Any other suggestions are still appreciated, as I'm traveling in Africa for another 8 months and don't have a way to bring it to a skilled repair person!

    I bought the ram that this guy bought and it didn’t work. I needed the 2400 speed ram so even tho I have the same exact model laptop my mother board is different. If you take the numbers off the motherboard you can go online to figure out what you need. I bought this computer brand new and it was basically useless until I installed the extra 8g ram. It’s still not the fastest computer in the world but now with the extra ram it’s a decent useable computer. I don’t do anything crazy with the laptop but it was just so damn slow before. I’m going to install a solid state drive next week so that will be even better. I also will be using a wireless usb WiFi adapter so I can have 5g which will help the internet speeds too!

    Thank you! imma try this later hope this laptop will be faster for a bit. well ram can't really be a performance changer because of it's cpu and gpu bottleneck if we'll op to upgrade it to 12gb ram.

    • @OmegaRed7159
      @OmegaRed7159  4 года назад +1

      It is a performance changer, just not for gaming or cpu intensive tasks. The ram and harddrive upgrades will drastically improve multitasking and application load time. This upgrade is ideal for the average user who uses this laptop for taks such as school, work, email, videos, pictures, or internet. browsing. The stock version of the laptop is extremely sluggish for basic tasks.

    Question. I’m gonna buy this computer brand new, and also those two things u said to buy (ram and hard drive I believe) and follow the steps like you show on the video. You can tell by now that I’m a rookie that has no idea but with good tutorials I do aright...
    So my question is...do I have to “clone” anything or do anything with the ram and hard drive or the computer before replacing the ram and the hard drive? Or I can just replace the ram and hard drive before even turning the computer on for the first time ever? Because what I mean is the computer is new....so it has no files or pictures or anything....do I have to do that “cloning” u were doing? Or not? Please that would really help and thank you!!!!!

    • @OmegaRed7159

      You don't clone the ram. You only clone your harddrive if you want to transfer your other system over to this new one. If you don't mind starting fresh and have a Windows OS Software/Serial to boot on, you can do that too.

    Thank you for the video/tutorial. I recently purchased the same laptop. Task Manager shows my RAM speed as 2400 MHz. CPU-Z shows 931.4 MHz (1862.8), so who knows? I would probably go with your advice based on your trial and error and install 1866 MHz RAM if I decided to upgrade.

My cloning/backup software (Acronis True Image Home) does not work on the laptop, because it is formatted as GPT not MBR, so I will have to look for something else to do the cloning.
