this had to have been one of the most massive cold weather ration i have ever seen in my life
Hey Steve. Back for a rewatch amigo.
One of my favs. Most complete meal with so many snacks, drinks and components to mix and match. I love all the seasonings and soups as well. Definitely breaks up the same ole, thing every single mission which boosts moral in the field. Definitely a great bug out food bag!! Always fantastic review Steve. Carsten and I always chat about how much we like your review and what we got same or different in the rations!! I will look to see what's different in mine!
Damn i keep forgetting to sub your channel. Glad you and Carsten enjoy my videos so much. I wish Carsten would start doing videos he always seems to have plenty on hand. But yeah this was a great ration and i always enjoy the Orifo products. I also have a menu 6 plus 2 more of the regular Dutch rations. I really need to slow down on buying so many lol. Thanks for watching!
@@nuked99 aww, ty the the sub Steve. I have plenty now too but always love to trade. I have still some LEMON Real Turmat Drinks for you and maybe some others things. Cheers. Here is my email @sunshinesideoflife77@gmail.com
Have a great week Steve! Take Care
Thanks Steve. What a bummer, they have omitted the fruit biscuits. I really enjoyed those.
I always remember being out in field , you never ever got a chance to finish the bloody thing , I always use to empty my bergan and webbing and out popped bits of rat packs
Now I got to find one like this
The thing with (most of) the EU MRE's is, that they're so much more varied, tasty and healthy. Especially compared to the US MRE's.
The Orifo grapefruit drink is my favorite, as well. I love these rations. I have two left in the closet that I can't bring myself to open.... I keep thinking that there will be a better day. Excellent review, Thank you!
There is usually a better day. I still have 2 of the regular Dutch rations i need to check the dates on. Thanks for watching Zed.
This was huge but it looked awesome. Great review on this one. A lot of calories to burn off there.
Great review. I got one of these, and , other than the mains, no way I eat this in 24 hrs. I spread the extras out as snacks and lasted several day. Good ration.
Agreed...That's A Lot Of Food For A 24hr Ration...
Which menu did you get Muldur? I always like to know how the others are.
I got what I believe is Menu 2. Chocolate Muesli, Pasta with Beef and Vegetables and Mashed Potatoes with Beef. I have to be careful with water, sometimes add too much . But all pretty tasty.
Awesome meal it's 93 today in va
Great review Steve. I somehow missed this video. It took me about three hours to watch it all. That's what I get for watching this at work, lol. That is a great big helping of food for one day. But if you're on the move in a harsh environment, it might just be what you need to keep going. Good idea making this a four meal review. Hope you have a great day 👍
Nice quick review of dinner and supper.
I love the apple turnovers, they have just the right amount of cinnamon.
There is so much food in that ration.
Could definitely be spread out to last at least a couple of days in an emergency.
Great vid 👌
This ration looks amazing. Awesome review Steve
Thanks for watching Marilyn!
Very enjoyable review, thanks..
I need to buy this...great job with review!
Thenew dutch rations are awesome Steve. I was able to get me some for a good price as well. Not freeze dried, just the regular. But they are also very good. Btw nice review. Always enjoy your reviews
I still have 2 of the regular Dutch rations on hand and need to check the dates on them, or at least gather all my stuff and take inventory by date lol. I always say that i'm not going to get more rations but now i saw some British vegetarian ORP's that have a lot of Indian food in them, and i love Indian foods and curries. Thanks for watching Carsten!
No chance of getting thirsty lol. Great review
That's a bunch of food! Great review! Stay cool over there.
Yeah it got hot way too quick! At least the garden is doing ok so far even though i started late again. Hope all is well with you.
What a mammoth ration! I think that could be stretched to last at least 2 days! Great looking contents. Stay well my friend
Heck yeah, buddy! Great video. Hope you're enjoying summer
Not too bad. Got too hot waaaay too quick. I do not think i will ever get used to the heat after growing up in Michigan. Thanks for watching Smitty!
It's in the mid 90's around North Central Texas.
Very cool friend! Lots of items, agreed. Dang, look at all of those drinks!! Just as many snacks, as well. All components, and, all meals , look excellent. Glad you got 4 meals, out of it all. Seems you enjoyed most of the components. It looks good on our end. Peace from Ky., Amigo. John. Great job sir.
Glad you enjoyed it John. Video was longer than normal but i did not want to split it up. Hope you are staying cool over there friend and take care!
" Dang, look at all of those drinks!!"
It is to keep away dehydration. People don't often understand how much they need to drink in cold while being active. Since it doesn't have the same "hot outside, sweating a lot, must drink" signaling.
So militaries realized some time ago, that one must give people lot of _drinks_ . Since if you give plain water even hot water, people might not drink enough and start suffering dehydration with headaches and so on.
So give them hot chocolate, coffee, tasty fruit or berry flavour drinks and it is incentive to drink more just for the enjoyment of the act of drinking itself. Hence also why arctic rations usually involve putting in _good quality_ drinks and not just the cheapest artificial tasting stuff for sake of having "taste like something instead of nothing".
They have probably calculated, that those drinks, teas and coffees , when prepared as per recipe are enough to make all of the daily water intake need to a drink. Instead soldier having to drink any of it as plain water. Plus even more on top for say people preferring tea or coffee, so give them big enough rations of both so if you want to drink just coffee instead of both the coffees and the teas, you can.
That also explains the large amount of "sports drinks", which usually often involve hydration salts to keep salt balance. Again... since one sweats surprisingly much in the cold due to the necessity of the insulating clothing, even with people trying to layer on and layer off. One usually never gets the balance exactly right and in prevention of hypothermia cautions on side of being little too warmly clothed and thus sweating a lot.
Not to mention specially in arctic the unit operates very much on morale of having the endurance to ski that another kilometer, keeps that watch awake instead of dozing and so on. Thus again better quality, better tasting stuff, more calories. Otherwise the unit easily becomes passive and immobilized with "can't move anywhere in all of this snow, white out and cold" and just holds their defensive posture since "nobody can move in these conditions". Where as well fed, well moraled nimble unit can move and operate.
We used to have three packs of browns that actually contained as many as the two in this one on their own. I don't know why they went for porridge and muesli in stead but us old-timers miss the old boxes. The weight reduction is minimal and the food isn't as nutritional as back than. If you wonder why we have such big rations come and look at the size of the soldiers here. Most Dutch national males are between the six foot and the allowed six foot eight. Everyone over 6 foot 8 isn't allowed in the armed forces.
HUGE ration!! I could use this in a survival pack.
ikr
Howdy Steve! 🎉Rewatch🎉
I’ve just figured out what the wavy lines are across the centre of the screen it’s your camera picking up the weave of the cloth you are using for a back-drop/table cloth try just moving your light or camera angle, I’ve had the same problem when I used to use an old 35ml camera
Great ration dude, those jerky packs are annoying lol, huge pack with only a tiny bit of meat 😔 they’re pretty pricey to.
...you KNOW a ration means business when it takes you more than 5 and a half minutes just to see what it contains...unbelievable number of items...
Got one of those sitting on my desk right now
Which menu did you get Mark?
@@nuked99 menu 1 will get video posted about it soon
Four meals for an active person, even more if just hiking etc.
I was thinking of adding the chicken soup to the curry dish when you were trying the soup, and then you mentioned doing that with the taters. I think that's the way to go; I haven't tried it, but would like to hear if someone has and how it tasted. Good luck and God bless.
I will remember to try it if i get the mashed potatoes again. Add half the beef packet and add more later if it needs it.
Allergy information is a first fir me in an MRE
i'm actualy quite sad that these rations don't include the Hero jam
You would think they would include more items from local suppliers but i guess not. Thanks for watching!
I have never had curry. Does it have a coconut flavor?
It had a slight coconut flavor, which is fine with me that's the way i make my Thai curries. Thanks for watching Eve!
There are many types of curry. Some contain coconut, some don't.
It would take a soldier an hour 3 times a day and 2 gallons of hot water to eat this
Lot of hots no esbit stove.
I'm going to take a wild guess and say these are marine Corp rations, because they notoriously eat up insane amounts of calories. Trying to eat this in a day is not good for your health, leave it to the trained professionals 😉
Unbelievable rat pack , better than our British one ........ but to be honest you never ever get a chance to eat a whole rat pack anyway
This looks like a snack fest. Mains look great too. Can't believe you had to doctor up potatoes 😅.
Yeah the potatoes were kind of bland, but at least there was plenty of seasoning to help it out. Thanks for watching Leah.
I’d be putting less water in those potatoes, that paste texture doesn’t look appealing.
Some Orifo entrees not seen by me. Nice.
The Orifo items are quite good and always glad to get them.
This was huge but it looked awesome. Great review on this one. A lot of calories to burn off there.
