my favorite Myrthas are Alexandrova, Terekhova and Martine Van Hamel. But I do love Nunez's acting but Royal Ballet does a different version of Giselle. But that video with Baryshnikov and Makarova having Van Hamel as Myrtha is legit scary
Let's not forget Marie-Agnes Gillot of the Paris Opera Ballet. She has the energy and power like Alexandrova, but maintains a very 'otherworldly' presence.
you forgett an ancient Myrtha from 1960's Cuban Aurora Bosch, she was the first Latinoamerican ballerina dancing Myrtha at Opera National de Paris, as especial guest, with Alicia Alonso making Giselle.Aurora was Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris this year.
Thanks for your reply. Have you seen the video of Nunez as Myrtha in Royal Ballet's Giselle? I was really taken by her characterization, but then I am in for the acting. Her head movements especially are striking. Her facial expressions; I think she's musical in it... My personal fave Giselle from what I have seen is Lopatkina and I wish it was available on DVD, would love to talk more with you!

Best Myrthas EVER: Maria Alexandrova, Maria Bylova and Galina Kozlova. No one can do it better. And for Giselle, I think Svetlana Lunkina is the most beautiful ever! Her sensitivity, her musicality, the feelings... She cries when she does the mad scene. You can see the pain and her broken heart through her eyes.
Oh how I agree, I know that production, it was Sveta's debut in 1998 with Nikolai Tsiskaridze, both were amazing. She was 18 and amazing, so innocent and sweet. Alexandrova was Myrtha in that production. It is my favorite production of Giselle.
Alexandrova is a fine Myrtha, but as for Giselles on film none can match Mezentseva in the 1983 performance, available on DVD for some years now. And of course the Myrtha on this DVD was Tatiana Terekhova-the best-ever on film.

What is your opinion of Cojacaru as Giselle? I found her very touching. I have watched almost all of the Giselles and they all have something to offer; I thought Ulanova was great. I have no friends that love ballet, lol. Lopatkina was the most spiritual Giselle, IMO. Better than Makarova.
@annamicro. A well-grounded opinion, but now (2010-2011) Kondaurova has a firm claim on the Myrtha crown. IMO she is certainly the finest Myrtha since Terekhova.

Marianela Nuñez have no soul, is cold as ice, and have no style for this role, she dances all with same face, Myrtha, Odette, Swanilda, all is same caracter,always face of nothing, its a shame because sh have a really good conditions and thecnique, she needs born again for benn compared with Alexandrova...

Aleksandrova and Terekhova are both superb Myrtha's but no one can ever touch Terekhova's Myrtha. She's a terrifying Myrtha. So powerful.

This is great, but Marianela Nunez of the Royal Ballet beats out all of the other Myrthas with her perfect sharp technique and her incredible acting.
