I do agree with the previous comment. I love these video's and the content, vintage audio is an amazing subject. I also live in NJ and would love to come and visit.
A constructive comment would be to mount the camera. It's tough as a viewer to focus on the device when the camera is constantly in motion, and for those that do get motion sick I can imagine it's difficult to watch. A gimble would really help when you do need to pick the camera up.
    Great content though!!!

I think the audio could be better too. This is the only RUclips channel where I have to turn up the volume of my amplifier and the sounds is moving from left to right all the time. It would suit their business if the levels and panning were correct. Mono sound would be fine for speech and a compressor would do a good job in this case. The subjects are too interesting though to not watch the videos...

We recently changed our entire camera setup (Stabilized, external Mic) and so far the comments have been in favor of the changes. Thanks for writing!

I actually got to see one of these in summer of '81 at a Henry Radio store in LA. Just a gorgeous piece of gear. Most impressive I've ever seen. I owned a DRAGON back then and with a good pair of headphones, I could just barely, barely tell the difference between the CD source and the tape.

Very cool as it seems very few people ever saw one of these live and in person when it was originally available for sale (in a store).

I had several Nakamichi decks and a Revox B77 and did a comparison with the CD. The speed of attack on the CD just can't be matched, even on a super high end Turntable. However I did find the decks n Revox was able to capture the tonal warmth coming from a turntable feed.

I had a Nak 600 Mk II and a 700 ZXL. Both excellent machines. The 700 ZXL had its outboard Dolby C and remote control units. Recording performance was excellent, but it did need quite a bit of servicing. I suspect that the last Nak flagship decks outperformed the 700 ZXL.

The camera doesnt do this unit justice, really need to see this beauty up close to get the real feel! Im intrigued that even though this is the superior model, the Dragon still commands a little bit more $ on the market ATM.

Which Nakamichi had the flip cassette mechanism so you did not have to turn to side B manually?

  • @thinkgeeks
    @thinkgeeks 3 месяца назад

Nakamichi is a small, niche company, many of its heads were hand made - meaning low quality, low reliability - open coil heads, broken motor, and many other things. As a result, it became bankrupted after a short period.

Enjoying your videos. Please be mindful that when filming close up try not to move camera around too much it is very hard to watch - a bit dizzying :).

Your videos are great but as another comment says - please hold the camera steady! I am almost sea-sick after watching. Maybe just put the camera on a tripod?

Separating record and playback heads allows to make a different gaps in it and make maximum on the frequency response and detalization side. Listening during recording is just a convenience :) Excellent review BTW.

It came to you broken ... "as many Nakamichis do." ?? I have no doubt that Nakamachi is a great brand - among the best - but you make it sound as if it's rather routine to encounter broken Nakamichi tape decks. I have a Nakamichi, but not this model.

@@larsholst6216 Understandable, but it is kinda like me saying I have something better than a Northrop Grumman B-2 in my basement. Of course one could say this for the sake of implying that it's (not) superior to anything else. But I'd argue that it is a pointless statement without actually showing or naming this "better" item.
The Nakamichi 1000ZXL is specifically named and up to scrutiny. The other item is not, but still said to be better. Doesn't convince me. If you don't want to say what you bought that's fine but then why come up with the claims.

      @@ccllvn :
First of all, within the Nakamichi range, the ZX-9 does better recordings and playback than the 1000ZXL.
That was what made me sell the almost new 1000ZXL back then.
Later on, the ZX-9 became a winding machine only after I got the Tandberg TCD 3014, later on the 3014A and now the TCD 910.
