  • Surprises abound. Families can seek discoveries along the water’s edge or cross a bridge to see sharks swimming below. Play hide-and-seek with thousands of beautiful fish, from small colorful wrasses to velvety rays. Further out in the reef, stunning habitats create the feeling of swimming right alongside sharp-toothed reef sharks safely behind glass. You can even take paths and bridges to the reef’s islands and hidden grottos as they delve into the reef from above, around and below.

    13:23 I saw the exact same stingray today, just got back home. The grand reef was definitely a highlight of the trip!

    Is there any shark in the grand reef itself? I saw a few reviews mentioning "a" nurse shark in the grand reef.

    When I went I would dive down deeper away from the butt ton of kids and when I turned around looking a ray swim overhead a porcupine or puffer fish ran into my face XD

    I never been there, it looks awesome !
    Were you swimming with sharks?
    Is it a men made beach?

      It's definitely awesome! There is a glass panel between us and the sharks in the video, but they DO offer a package that lets you swim with them directly. Unfortunately that option didn't exist when we visited. The whole place is man made (and amazing!)

    Do they provide life vest? And do you recommend to someone who does not know how to swim very well?

    • @PearsonHurst
      @PearsonHurst  3 года назад +2

      They do provide life jackets, and there are also floaty foam noodles in the freshwater river. Both freshwater and saltwater lagoons have sand beaches, and sections that go from a few inches of water to just a few feet, so plenty of places to wade if you'd prefer to not be in water over your head. They also have an amazing aviary that is on dry land. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend it, even for non-swimmers, it's an amazing place. They offer this advice on their website:
      Do I need to be a good swimmer to participate in the various experiences at Discovery Cove?
      Even for non-swimmers, Discovery Cove has plenty to offer. Not only can you relax on the white sand beaches or one of our many hammocks, but we have an Aviary full of exotic birds to hand feed. More importantly, however, we do provide life jackets so you can enjoy the waterways as well. The devices are designed to keep you afloat, so you would still be able to snorkel with the fish in The Grand Reef® or take a journey down our Wind-Away River. The lifejackets can even be worn in the dolphin lagoons!
      Location Shallowest Point Deepest
      Wind-Away River 3 ft 8ft
      Serenity Bay 0-1 feet 4 feet
      The Grand Reef® 0-1 feet 12 ft
      Dolphin Lagoon 0-1 feet 12 ft
      Freshwater Oasis® 0-1 feet 7 feet

      Thank you so much this very helpful. One last question is there any activity my 5 year old is allowed to participate in with the all inclusive package ?

    • @PearsonHurst
      @PearsonHurst  3 года назад

      @@kerenmelara6089 I believe 6 is the minimum age for the dolphin encounter, and 10 is the minimum age for the Sea Venture (both are add-on packages), but other than that, a 5 year old should be able to enjoy pretty much everything else the park has to offer.

    I went here today and the water is extremely cold (for the rays) and even though I had the long wetsuit on, I still was dying

    • @PearsonHurst

      The salt water was definitely a little chilly when we went, but we got used to it fairly quickly. Of course it was in November, so it probably didn't feel as cold as it would on a warm summer day.

    How deep is the water?

      @PearsonHurst  4 года назад

      It varies from sandy beach to maybe 12 feet? Maybe a little more, maybe a little less.

    Your not supposed to disturb the rays when they are resting!
