I'm so glad I found this video and your channel. I just started with DMR yesterday. I must say I was not expecting the learning curve. I've managed to get some talkgroups programed and have set my hotspot up. Great info in this video and I really like the way you explain things

so i could get 2 dmr radios ,,,,,,, link up to a repeater and make a private call to the other radio ??? without affecting anyone ??? and talk when i want ??? or would i need a dynamic repeater
Hi There, Just in the process of setting up my CP and was following your vid and wondered about the reference to Receive Group. On the dropdown for setting that option all I get is None, so the dropdown options are not available? I'm using and Antone D878UV.
You can establish Receive Groups in the CPS. Add a group name and then double click the channel and use the select box to place talk groups or private calls in the receive group. Then you'll have that group or any other groups you specify when completing the info in the channel set-up. With a receive group set up and selected, the radio will always transmit signals from that group. The downside is that if you're not looking at the radio you may not know what input was just heard and with busy talkgroups, there's something on all the time. They are optional and many folks choose not to use them to cut down on the chatter. If you have a couple of buddies who hang out on a group, but not the same group, you might set a receive group with two entries to hear when one or the other is on.
DMR programming is a hard challenge for most of us so don't be discouraged. The Receive Group is an entry that tells the radio what to listen to. You set up receive groups separately and then call the group you want when programming a channel. Some radios have what is called promiscuous mode in which the radio will listen to everything. Check your radio's manual to see if a receive group is something that is required.

That's beyond me. I think you'll need to talk with a repeater owner.
