Great strategy for people with money looking to diversify their investments. I know someone who has done this in the pricy Bay Area. She has great cash flow on a home she bought 20 years ago and is breaking even on a property she bought three years ago having put 1/3 down. Ten years from now she will cash flow better and her equity will be through the roof. She did the same for out-of-state properties.
Yes you might say that but More and more people might face a tough time in retirement. Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire without any investment. Retirement becomes truly fulfilling when you possess two essential elements: financial resources and a meaningful purpose in life. Make prudent investment choices to secure good returns and ensure a comfortable retirement. .

What some people don't know about investing is What's called the power of dollar cost averaging. If you contribute money every month no matter what, when the market is down, you're getting stocks on sale. Even though you may be losing money in the long short-term, the nice part about this is that when the market goes back up, those stocks that you bought at a cheaper price are going to greatly increase in value and you're going to see an amazing amount of growth during the next bull run. That's why it's important to keep on throwing money into your ETF during bear markets. If you don't invest during the down times, you're not going to see the growth that comes with the good times.

People always say buy low sell high. But what is considered low? Do u buy lower than what I already paid for? Do you buy low even if you are still green? Do you only buy more when you are in the red?
Good question. It is very tough to “time the market” so figuring out when the lowest price is coming is near impossible. That’s why I like to dollar cost average weekly instead. When prices dip 10-20% like they have been lately, I just buy more! Hope that makes sense
Looking at the price to earnings ratio is a good start and what the average is for the industry you're interested in. There's also discounted cashflow, for example the graham method. Just plug in the numbers into that equation and it gives you a rough yard stick for the value of a stock.
Every crash/collapse brings with it an equivalent market chance if you are early informed and equipped, I've seen folks amass up to $1m amid economy crisis, and even pull it off easily in favorable conditions. Unequivocally, the collapse is getting somebody somewhere rich.
I do not disagree, there are strategies that could be put in place for solid gains regardless of economy or market condition, but such execution are usually carried out by investment experts with experience since the 08' crash.
The issue is people have the "I want to do it myself mentality" but not equipped enough for a crash, hence get burnt. Ideally, advisors are reps for investing jobs, and at first-hand encounter, my portfolio has yielded over 300% since 2020 just after the pandemic to date.

Problem is it doesn't go up 10 per cent every year. Would you be able to take the periods when S&P went down 40 percent or 50 percent? So you've lost 50 per cent of your money, you now need to double your money just to break even or would you bail out.
100% correct. It’s not perfect or fun, but on AVERAGE it has risen 10% per year when investing long term. If you will need the money in one year, I don’t advise this strategy exactly for why you said 👊good work!
The S&P has NEVER had a loss over any 20 year period in its history. While the 10% return doesn’t happen every year. The longer the horizon, the more true the returns get actualized
What are your thoughts on someone like Michael Burry who warns of a "passive investing bubble" created by index fund investors who have become so prevalent over the last 10 years?
100k in Bitcoin will change your life. With Bitcoin 10x in 2030. With s&p500 maybe 2-2.5x. Best time to buy bitcoin is when its down 70-80% from Ath. Now its down 70% i bought a lot. If it goes down 80% to 12-14 k Im All In
Basic question: how much $ do you figure you’d have to invest into the S&P 500 yo create $4,000/m in income (Of course let’s assume you have the ability not to withdraw during 2-5 yrs if the market falls like in 2008)
Basic rule of thumb there would be that you can withdraw up to 4% per year forever so if you want $4,000 per month that’s $48,000 per year and $48,000 is 4% of $1.2M
@@NolanGouveia Fantastic! And assuming we get to that point one day, would it be better to set up the stocks as dividend paying stocks or.. focus on growth stock & ETF like VOO & SCHD you mentioned & sell only 4% per good year to live off Thank you so much

What do you think about global currencies collapsing and the inevitable collapse of the dollar? Making dollars in stocks doesn’t seem to matter anymore with the devaluation of said dollar.
Definitely a valid point but companies won’t just crumble because of that. They’ll start using the new currency whether that be crypto or whatever so investing in the companies will still hold the value
I think this video is only for the people that they dont know anything right? because with that amount of money "$100,000" you can make a lot of millions in a few years or months. There are better companies for stocks or options to do it.
So if I change my 401K to invest in the S&P500, is it dumb to open a brokerage account Ike Vanguard and then buy VOO again there ? Or as long as I am invested in SP500 in 401k, it will suffice?
Compound interest only works when the stock market is not going down 30% in one year. When the stock market goes down 30% in one year, you lose 30 years of compound interest.
VOO can be bought in all brokerages and investing platforms whereas SWPPX can only be bought in schwab so I’m talking to a broad audience but yes in schwab I like swppx best
Question, looking at the long term we don't know what will happen. Let's guess the US dollar will not be anymore the reserve currency. What happens to VOO investment?
It is still correlated to the value of each of the companies in the index so if we no longer have fiat then whatever the currency is will still be there
I am new to investing and have newbie question for you. If I understood well with buying ETF you are holding small piece of basket with underlying asset or stocks. Wonder what would happen with ETF if company like Vanguard go bust? Would price of ETF fall since you own a "basket" and not directly assets? In that case millions of traders would want to get rid of that "basket" which would lead to ETF price go down. Who would want to be buyer of your ETF on exchange from company which hypothetically went bust?
This scenario has some validity but it is very tough for a company like Vanguard to fail. They basically have access to more capital at any given time than most entities ever. But I wouldn’t invest in an etf from a company without a proven track record or great management
Not sure, but math kind of doesn’t add up. By the tittle of the video, when making this projections, and talking about the s&p 500, are you talking about investing 100,000 in VOO alone and reinvesting their 1.6% dividend? Because I tried to do the math and if are only inventing on VOO with a 10% return, I don’t get the same figures you do. Maybe I’m missing something?
There is an issue in using long term numbers to make short term claims. The claims are usually false. I do invest in broad market ETFs and mutual funds. I like the long term performance. Over 30 year periods the S&P500 total return has a lower limit of just below 10% annualized. So for time periods of 30 years one can use 10%. But for 20 year periods the S&P500 total return has a lower limit of about 7%. One should not use 10% for time periods around 20 years. And for 10 year periods the S&P500 total return has been negative. Expecting 105 and being faced with a loss is not a comfortable position. I am retired now and this year I am spending the money I invested 30 years ago. Next year I will spend the money that I invested 29 years ago. I should be saying we - my wife and I, as she is the one who said 35 years ago that we would be start living as if we were collecting Social Security. That allowed us to save a lot.
Imagine I bought 7k VOO early this week I’m now down £250. Someone tell me I’m doing the right thing it’s playing with my head 😅 I’m planning on leaving it 10+ years. Also got another 12 shares when it went down 4%

Professor G, Question, after watching this video, I am 60 yrs old this month, do you still recommend these same ETF’s? VTI, VOO,QQQ,VUG,VXM, and SCHD at this point? Planning to retire at 65….😮
I’d consult with a cpa or finance pro that can understand your entire situation and be able to recommend specifically for you. The closer to retiring, the more you would want stability
@@NolanGouveia No, I'm only 40 years old. The goal is to retire around 55-59 years old. I paid my house off this year so I'm doubling down on my investments. I'm a firefighter and have a state pension plan, it's not great so I need to have other investments.
" Past Performance Does Not Guarantee Future Results." and remember we have had a 40 year run where interest rates went from almost 20 percent in 1980 to Zero. The man that invented the S&P index find JACK BOGLE and the founder of VANGUARD, said FUTURE RETURNS ARE GOING TO BE MORE MODEST THAN IN THE PAST. Probably more like 6 or 7 % . Now that is not the end of the world it just means that we have to save a little more.
I am from Europe and whenever I watch investment videos from America I wonder why the hell is the S&P500 so hyped when there are much more diversified options? Like the MSCI world, FTSE All-world, MSCI ACWI or other global ETFs. You seem to really trust your country is going to be in good shape forever.
Diversification just “to be diversified” is not the goal. I pick the S&P 500 because it has 500 of the best and biggest companies and all are global in this day and age. I do have exposure outside the US as well and then diversify into other asset classes but for stocks, I think S&P 500 is king
Honestly I’m going to be making a video on this soon and I personally think VTI and VOO should be looked at as the same. Very very similar, so no need to split hairs

I have some VOO in my regular brokerage account. I recently started a Roth IRA with same brokerage company (ETrade). Should I sell the VOO out of regular account and re buy it in my Roth. I am just thinking if I am not going to touch this until I retire would it not be better to have all of this in my Roth to avoid taxes? Does this make any sense? Thanks.
Definitely makes sense, however if it was me, I’d just start investing any new $ in to the ROTH this year and then next year split it half and half. Retirement is great, but there may come a time 5-10 years down the road that you’d like a big chunk of money to do something with so you don’t want it ALL tied up in retirement (in my opinion)
That does make sense. I may just leave it like it is. I invest in SCHD in my Roth and mainly VOO in my regular account and play around with a few other individual stocks.

Thankyou for the kind words Nancy! I’m here to help so just comment while watching any of my videos and I’ll clear up any specific questions you may have :-)
People always say buy low sell high.

Why would one go into VOO over SPY as an example? Fees?
Ya fees. Other than that they are almost identical

Just start and you’ll thank me in 10 😀
Problem is it doesn't go up 10 per cent every year.
Lost decades aside, S&P 500 is probably the best investment a person can make
@@anthonyqcolosimo5374 💯
While you are correct now when the market is down is the best time to buy because the bounce back will be harder and you’re buying in at a discount

With s&p500 maybe 2-2.5x.

Basic question: how much $ do you figure you’d have to invest into the S&P 500 yo create $4,000/m in income
(Of course let’s assume you have the ability not to withdraw during 2-5 yrs if the market falls like in 2008)
Basic rule of thumb there would be that you can withdraw up to 4% per year forever so if you want $4,000 per month that’s $48,000 per year and $48,000 is 4% of $1.2M
@@NolanGouveia
Fantastic! And assuming we get to that point one day, would it be better to set up the stocks as dividend paying stocks or.. focus on growth stock & ETF like VOO & SCHD you mentioned & sell only 4% per good year to live off

So if I change my 401K to invest in the S&P500, is it dumb to open a brokerage account Ike Vanguard and then buy VOO again there ? Or as long as I am invested in SP500 in 401k, it will suffice?
That’s up to you but I do invest in VOO in my brokerage as well
@@NolanGouveia ok thank you professor!

Just keep dollar cost averaging at these lower prices and it’s gunna shoot up eventually!
Compound interest only works when the stock market is not going down 30% in one year. When the stock market goes down 30% in one year, you lose 30 years of compound interest.
Incorrect. The market rises and falls. A temporary dip is normal and nothing is lost unless you sell.
I love Vanguard.... very safe and conservative and great for investing retirement plans for the future.....

Why not buy VTSAX , it is cheaper than VTI . Assuming the initial payment to get into the fund are affordable. Pls advise.
Agreed but you can’t get VTSAX everywhere so I try to educate on something available for most on most platforms
As a Schwab investor, why do you like VOO over SWPPX? They seem identical, but SWPPX has slightly lower expense ratio. Thank you for your thoughts.
VOO can be bought in all brokerages and investing platforms whereas SWPPX can only be bought in schwab so I’m talking to a broad audience but yes in schwab I like swppx best
@@NolanGouveia Thank you. I have thoroughly enjoyed your insights over the last couple of years!
Do you recommend going for VGT or QQQM/VUG 100% instead of VOO?
Not 100% no
Question, looking at the long term we don't know what will happen.
Just buy a etf with high dividend ;at least you remain with $
Not sure, but math kind of doesn’t add up.
Look at what I input for the figures in the video on a compound interest calculator and you’ll get there
What's the difference between SPY &. VOO . The second one sounds perfect for Halloween.
🤣 very similar almost identical. VOO is cheaper as far as expense ratio
In that case why would anyone choose SPY? I guess more liquid ity , easier for sorry term trading.
@@thegormlesstwit849 yes exactly
There is an issue in using long term numbers to make short term claims. The claims are usually false.
I do invest in broad market ETFs and mutual funds. I like the long term performance.
Over 30 year periods the S&P500 total return has a lower limit of just below 10% annualized. So for time periods of 30 years one can use 10%. But for 20 year periods the S&P500 total return has a lower limit of about 7%. One should not use 10% for time periods around 20 years.
And for 10 year periods the S&P500 total return has been negative. Expecting 105 and being faced with a loss is not a comfortable position.

Diversification just “to be diversified” is not the goal. I pick the S&P 500 because it has 500 of the best and biggest companies and all are global in this day and age. I do have exposure outside the US as well and then diversify into other asset classes but for stocks, I think S&P 500 is king

Hi there.
Question.
Is VOO better than FXAIX.
I'm new . I just opened an account roth ira in fidelity but i really don't know where to start, I heard investing in s&p 500 is better option and maybe in vym or schd for dividends. By the way I'm 43 ( almost 44 😔, but I think I'm still have time)
Great job! For fidelity, you may be better off with FXAIX since the fee is a bit lower but they are both super minimal so either is a great choice! You may find a lot of value in joining the patreon group (link in description) as we do live Q&A times for members only and we can walk this through so you are set up for success!
Professor G., What do you think of FXIAX instead of VOO? Do they have the same dividend yield?
If you are at fidelity then yes FXAIX is a better option that VOO just because the expense is slightly less
Why not VTSAX?
I personally like to talk on ETFs more than ob specific products only found on specific platforms but Vtsax is great!
