    The Fischer - Larsen Candidates Semifinal (1971) and Petrosian - Korchnoi Candidates Semifinal (1971) was followed by a match between Fischer and past World Champion Petrosian, scheduled in Buenos Aires from September 30 - October 26, 1971. The winner would be the challenger for the World Champion title, in a match against Boris Spassky. The crosstable below gives a round-by-round summary:
    For the first game, Petrosian prepared 11...d5, an interesting improvement to three other tries: 11...♕b6 (W Schmidt vs Matulovic, 1964 0-1 - but the move doesn't appear in the database again before this match commenced), 11...♘e7 (Karpov vs Taimanov, 1971 1-0), and 11...♘d4 (the two prior games were Fischer vs Najdorf, 1966 1-0 and Fischer vs Taimanov, 1971 1-0). The feat in the first game by Fischer secured his streak at 20 consecutive wins - an exceptional performance for 20th century chess!
    With his first white in the match, Petrosian placed a halt to the streak in the second game. They followed the opening moves of Petrosian vs Korchnoi, 1961 (1.d4 ♘f6 2.c4 g6 3.♘c3 d5 4.♗f4 ♗g7 5.e3). Fischer declined the Grunfeld, Grunfeld Gambit (D83) 5...0-0 by instead choosing 5...c5. Petrosian won, before securing three draws in games 3-5. The opening in the fourth game was a repeat of Spassky vs Petrosian, 1969 (by transposition).
    Petrosian tested the Sicilian once more in the sixth game, but in the adjournment he struggled to hold. With Lothar Schmid overlooking, his lack of defensive resources in the games nearing the wane of the match decided the winner. During the week before Halloween, Fischer returned with a 4 game winning streak in games 6-9. Fischer agreed to tour Argentina to give simuls after this match was finished.

    What a man, what a legend 🎊 🎉
    People talk about Tal, Magnus, Gary as GOATS but all of them had a team for prep and help. This guy crushed a nation single handed.
    The sheer dominance is simply remarkable. During his time, no one and I truly mean no one could have come close let alone win the title against him.

    Bobby!! This was a revolution in chess and in society!! I was 17y old and the interest for chess and the upcoming Spassky match was fantastic. Also made me start playing in a chess club, and I still do!!

      Klaas van Strien Bobby Fischer 'lost it in his life' after:
      1. He was falsely arrested and abused.
      2. Was threatened with 10 years in jail and a $250,000 fine for playing a chess match in Yugoslavia.
      3. Was force to live outside the USA and had all his valuables in storage in the US taken because of this.
      4. The World Championship.
      Not all that surprising he 'lost it', as you say, in more ways than one.

    • @ivarkristoffersson3282
      @ivarkristoffersson3282 6 лет назад +2

      Yes a very special Life! Thanks to Iceland who gave him a place to live in!! I believe there is much more than I/we know about what happened and why! Fischer became "big politics" despite he never cared, what I know! He perhaps was just a nail in the face to the power, a rebel and we need more of this today!!

    • @ivarkristoffersson3282
      @ivarkristoffersson3282 6 лет назад

      Yes!! That is true!! We still have a inhuman system and he/we are worthy of more love!! We have to give it to ourself!! Yes!! May his Soul rest in peace!!

      Jealous scum attacked him over nothing. I saw an interview later in life and all they did was take anything normal he said and dismiss it, and the scum media took everything controversial he said and made him look like a madman. Really sad, to poke and prod a guy like him until he cracks, real repugnant media actions there.

    #suggestion Please Agad, do check out the game played in 1930 in Sanremo between Efim Bogoljubov and Mario Monticelli. It’s my favorite game: it has everything: strategical ideas, a beautiful exchange sacrifice by black, and then a final combination. It very interesting because you don’t see very often Bogoljubov getting crushed in such a beatiful game. Maybe you can also increase your vast knowledge about Mario Monticelli, quite a guy... please like so Agad can see this comment! Thank you all!!!

    Many thanks for narrating this story. It really puts into context the famous 1972 final and shows well the increasing status of Fischer. He was immense. Like a rock star. Certainly on the way to becoming a superstar. It's barely believable just how good he was in the days before engines. One wonders just how good he would be with them?
    Anyway, continued best. Though speaking of "little breaks", consider having a break yourself. A week or ten days in Dubrovnik or some such, would be justifiable. Consider that you would be an 'excellent taker of well-earned breaks' and enjoy yourself. Take the dog too!
    Good luck and best.

    #sugestion In 1994, Gata Kamsky and Vladimir Kramnik played a match and also Vishi Annand and Oleg Romanishin played theirs, it was for PCA Candidates Quarterfinals in New York. It would be great to watch on your channel these two matches.

    Botvinnick didn't think much of Fischer before this Petrosian series. Afterwards, he said Fischer was playing on a whole other level.

    In my opinion Knight capture on g5 is the best move to avoid checkmate

    I laughed my ass off after Fischer decided to capture the pawn with his knight instead cuz if I was in that position I would've done the same🤣

    You have solid analytical skills. All I have to add is "could you please explain a bit more slowly, before and after you present the moves." as you know exactly what you mean ,but to those not so familiar with chess, they may lose much in translation. thanks sir. I appreciate all you do. 😌

    Sorry for this stupid question but I‘m quite new to this channel. Why is „Rober James“ Fischer equal to „Bobby“ Fischer? Thanks in advance!

    • @mr.alboss2856
      @mr.alboss2856 6 лет назад

      Kykaz his real nAme was James Robert fischer but his nick name was bobby so everyone called him like that

    • @dankwarmouse6248

      Robert is often shortened to the nick-name Bob for some reason which is then turned into Bobby.

    0:50 Tal did win 4 consecutive games against Fischer in the 58's Candidates. By the way, Fischer was 15, and that was the last time he lost against Tal.

    Petrosian missed a mating opportunity. Look at the position that is theorized in the video at 9:40. Knight G7, Rook captures, Rook captures - Now see that H4 is actually losing for white. H5 check! The only square for the king to move now is H3. Rook delivers mate on H1...

    Best game seems to me in this Championship run for Fisher is first game with Larsen,seventh game with Petrosian,sixth game with Spassky(as per Fisher fifth game with Spassky where Spassky blundered is the best game as in this game Spassky tried to attack in a position where he should instead defend[Gligorich] -Depth of position understanding
