"I FORGOT TO HIT RECORD!!!" 100% the most relatable moment to me ever. I ALWAYS forgot to hit record when I used to sing parodies. 😂
I'm sure if you yelled "Stand back, ye blade!" out the window, you'd get far fewer noise disturbances outside.

Oh! As a part time VA for mostly VO Dubbing on other content online, I can totally relate to the same issues that you're going through. XD
Especially the worst habits would be sometimes when mouth clicks gets caught in the recordings of the mic.
That's one of my biggest struggles, aside from the unnecessary loud noises that interrupts your recordings.😫
Oh I hear that, also the "P" pops, and any time you can't tell if you peaked the mic or your headphones just had a hard time with the pitch
@@brianhullsvoice for p pops hold a pencil (or your finger) to your lips. It prevents you from making too big of a p without changing too much.
(I was lucky to mark pages in a session John DiMaggio directed & that was the trick he told the actor to do)

@@brianhullsvoice You definitely! Any word to pronounce with the letter "P" or "B" sometimes the clicks just pops into the recording.
Even when you notice about it or not.
Then you have the decision to either retake the line or just remove the click out of the audio.
Two things:
1. Was that a real script?

Ugh, I feel you're pain Brian. I feel the same way when I draw, I always forget that one little detail and usually my sister comes in, scares me to death, and I ruin my work 🫠
As an amateur voice actor, I feel you Brian. I face similar situations you face. But I always find a way to chill and come back to it later to make clean recordings with silent backgrounds for my productions. Because I can understand how exhausting that stuff is. Think positive, Brian. You got this! :)

Yeah, I know the feeling! Sometimes, I do voice impressions (even tho they’re not that great) and record them on the Voice Memos app on my phone and I try to do lots of takes to get it right!
@@n19ntendods I don't do voice acting, even though I'm good at doing some character impressions, but sometimes when I make videos, it takes a couple of tries to get them to be perfect.

In ninth grade, near the end of the school year (Spring of 2000), my class chose from a variety of options, which students would most likely go on to do. Each option had a male and female. I actually won the category, "Most likely to be the voice of a cartoon".
That hasn't happened yet, and I'm already 38.

Totally relatable as I dealt with cars, fans, and planes in the background. And having to edit my audio so it sounds more clearer than the raw recording because even with acoustic panels and being in a closet, I could hear my computer’s motor running or something.

I gotta question for ya; since you’re a professional VA now, how many takes of a line do you have to do so we hear them exactly the way they are in the final film?
There's no exact answer, it all depends on the director. In my experience baseline is 3-4 times, but sometimes I've done as much as 30 or 40. Sometimes the director is looking for something super specific, or they are trying a bunch of options because they aren't sure. Or we record once, I come back in and we redo what we've already done, so it's up in the air. But it's almost never a one take only

haha yup. Too many things can happen. My most unfavorite part is when I record lines and then need to come back a different day to re-record some lines. Always sounds different. Every time. Anybody know a way around this? An audio engineer I know says I can EQ it out but yikes. It's hard to ensure the mic is in the right place all the time and any other acoustics slightly change the sound. Love your content Brian. Great video.
