This was the first old firm game my dad took me to. We lost the match and celtic lost the league in the end. Just brought a tear to my eye as he's no longer with us xxx
It's not often that The Girvan Lighthouse lost 4 goals in one half ! Great wee stories from the late great Billy McNeill and Tommy Burns...both real Gentlemen of the sport !!!
Tom McAdam was one of Celtic's unsung heroes ; he often scored against Rangers in those days . Remarkable strike rate for a defender - even though Celtic bought him as a striker .
Tom McAdam got some stick from the Celtic fans,I don't know if it was cause his brother played for rangers but he got a lot of stick, I remember him scoring a belter for Celtic against sporting Lisbon at parkhead when we won 5 -0. He chested the ball down and volleyed it into the net a fantastic goal and yet some of the fans next to me were saying what's he doing up there he should be back there defending lol but aye big tam was a good servant to celtic
I also was at the game, never missed a game that season home and away. Celtic deserves their win, but man did a not hate that day, grrrrr Billy McNeil John Greig don’t make guys like that anymore. I met Tommy Burns a few times, what a lovely genuine man, a man who lived his faith, only thing wrong with him was he wisnae a proddy lol 😂 I said that to him and we had a good laff Aye good times , men of your character Tommy are few and far between.
was there as a fifteen yr old with my brother and cousin - great day but how times have changed - celtic were offering charlie a record 36 grand a year to stay against the arsenal with 100 grand a year!!! imagine charlie in an attacking arsenal team - if he had went to liverpool he would be remembered as one of the greats. what a player.
+shauny1boy i think you are correct sir, my 2 rupee opinion says that the discipline in Liverpool's well oiled machine could have made him 1 of the all time greats but he chose the glamour London life, and paid heavily. It is ironic that both he and Paul Merson ,( another player with an abundance of talent ) lost their way to the nightclub life of London hence had shortish careers and both are now TV pundits on some Saturday show which we don't get here in India
The remarkable thing about that day was Dundee Utd, Celtic and Aberdeen could all have won the league that day. Had Dundee manage to get an equaliser against Dundee United to make it 2-2, then they and Celtic would have finished level on points and would have had the same goals for and against, meaning they would have had to play off for the title. It was that close. I was at Dundee United’s game. What a great day that was.
I think celts won league cup that season and aberdeen won the scottish cup beating huns in the final dundee United won league not bothered to much as long as huns and hearts win nothing
That twat ferguson had a right go at the aberdeen players after they had beat the huns 1 0 wat a prick gordon strachan say s he wudnt let the players wives travel back upto aberdeen with the cup a total arsehole I never liked the bullying c--t he still supports that shower even after the way they treated his wife and mother cos off there religion and his beloved rangers shit all over him
I was at that game Rangers scored with 2 deflections their second goal was the luckiest goal I have ever seen the ball literally hit Sandy Clark on the head and ended up in the net !
Tom McAdam was an outstanding player and well worth his place in that Celtic side either as a defender or an attacker. Saw him score 2 cracking goals at Fir Park as Celtic overturned an aggregate score.
I was there that day. Notice that the huns couldn't sell their tickets. We got half the main stand and enclosure, the broomloan and part of the govan stand. We got about 18,000 from 44,000 tickets. Brilliant comeback. Charlie's last game for celtic and we lost the league that day. Who cares, we still beat Them
DJ1982 cause they didnt have a chance of winning the league and we had a potential opportunity to win the league there if other results went our way, sadly they didnt, still beat them though.
I remember averages of 14 maybe 17 thousand in those days for the top teams in the Premier. It was really depressing. As a kid i grew up with a Scottish inferiority complex reading the Sunday Mail or Daily Record attendances, compared to England's. They seemed to have in general 3 times as much in League Division One. One day i read in Shoot through the week that Rangers v Aberdeen ( 1981?) got 30,000 on a Saturday game and i felt a bit of hope and pride at that. I think it was the top attendance in Britain that weekend. Sorry for long comment. @STAR OF DAVID67
To think only a few years later Rangers would have a new squad made up from illegal payments that would ultimately get the club liquidated. Brilliant stuff. Succulent Lamb Hail Hail 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🏆🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Environmental Health Hazard Yes it was if you watch that game the Celtic fans have to half of the stadium And if the game was at Celtic park(which is biggerJ)
The rangers fans got the full end.And it was Dave king who changed the amount of Celtic fans because they got the whole stand the only Scottish team do to so he changed it to 800 Celtic supporters so rangers could make more money If I was you I would look it up and check
No after you shunted us into a corner and had your scummy clubs security, treating us like sheep when we visited your dump . You got what you deserved .
I remember that game! we always got part of the other stands back then because rangers had a full terracing at Parkhead! Great comeback win but sadly wasn't enough! How could Dawson think that wasn't a penalty at the end!!!! By the way I got Charlie Nics autograph at Glasgow airport not long after that! First one as an Arsenal player!! So he said!! He put Arsenal FC in brackets below his name...............DICK!!!!!!! Mon the Celts!!!!
I WAS AT THIS GAME WITH MY EX FATHER INLAW WHO SUPPORTED RANGERS IAM ACTUALLY HIBS . I REMEMBER THE RANGERS FANS AT THE TIME AT FULL TIME KICKING IN THE WINDOWS OF THE RANGERS DRESSING ROOM WHICH AT THE TIME WAS EASY TO KICK AT .
The last time rangers were mediocre, we had to win to stand a chance of winning the league i think, prytz i think was slapping rangers fans hands during the first half at 2-0 up, fair 2nd half, absolutely spanked them, didnt win the league but went down in style
Celtic were given tickets for the Broomloan Stand. Half the terraced enclosure and one third of the main stand. There were no tickets given for the Govan Stand but Celtic fans bought up tickets that rfc couldn't sell on the day of the match and the police had to do some crowd control when the Celtic fans started pouring in to the Govan stand with the rangers fans looking on warily😂
When Celtic were are a real Glasgow club with a support to match. What have we become? A club with a board full of Tories and players who would happily kiss the badge on day and leave the next.
I am sorry to inform you mate, but this is happening pretty much everywhere. Unless you are one of the greedy superleaguers or thereabouts, good luck trying to create rapport with your team's players. Here today, gone tomorrow...

Wow, two classic matches to finish the season! And both ending up being relevant to the championship race. What a great day that must have been!
Brian McGinley getting Celtic right back into the match with a ridiculous penalty award.

3.30 looks like this version of sevco were hit by a UEFA ban back then. Lots of empty seats!!
You cheer me up Big Man 🙏🇮🇪😎
Can't for the life of me remember a ticket allocation that big at Ibrox....must have been around 20,000 Celtic supporters there!
Was like that until early 2010s
Big Celtic fan, but that was a terrible dive by Provan for the pen. Wouldn't look out of place in today's game.
A textbook dive!
