Fuck yes, I love Virtua Racing. Don't get me wrong I love the Mega Drive tunes since Mitsuyoshi is a monster (he does the PCM voices for this game I believe), but 32X version is killer thanks to some help by Hataya because 6:52 replay is the fucking ham right there. The lap jingles are something I wish were a lot longer but then again it defeats their purpose.
For a game that people say "has no music" it sure makes for a long video! I think its genius that the music doesn't play the entire game. It actually makes me hear it when it plays and does get me pumped up to complete that next lap! And that "GAME OVER" music is the best game over music ever!! I don't even feel bad when the game is over just because I get to hear it!
Virtua Fighter is just as faithful to the arcade, id rank it up there just the same. VF2 went to many platforms but not the original, so it's hard to come by, and imo the best one. 32x may not look as good as the arcade but it nails the feel. Virtua Racing Deluxe has even more than the Arcade with 2 extra cars and tracks.. has the best feel on 32x imo. And then as a bonus there's more arcade greatness. NBA JAM TE 32x best version imo MK2 best version SPACE HARRIER and After Burner just about arcade perfect. Wrestlemania Arcade Star Wars Arcade. And then some extras on the side, we have unique 32x exclusives found no place else. Shadow Squadron ZAXXON'S 2000 Knuckles Chaotix Kolibri RBI 95 .. Yea I really like 32x
If you're gonna play Virtua Racing, you should play this version. It's the best version of the game imo. (Idk about the Saturn version tho, I haven't played it). While it doesn't look as good as the Arcade version, I think it plays the best. And the sound is second to none compared to any other version. Especially the Genesis version. Tho, this is how the Genesis version should've sounded in the first place. Considering that this doesn't even use the 32X in any capacity. Either way, this is great.
It uses it for a good portion of the drums just like Chaotix. Except that game has an awesome sound test menu that lets you peak at which chips are being used for what. But yea the drums actually feel like a full drum set with the extra sample channels. Compare to the simplicity of the regular genesis version. The vocals are also clear instead of grainy. However imo the Genesis version is better than the 32x because for some reason 32x lacks a drafting mechanic. Meaning you won't be gaining extra speed by chasing behind other players. Which is basically the only way to beat it on Hard. In that sense the 32x version is broken. But only hardcore players seem to notice. I can beat the Genesis version on Hard only because of its drafting. 32x I can't because there's no way to catch up lol.
The Saturn version isn't great compared to 32x. Saturn version was made by a 3rd party developer and while it's ok in itself it just doesn't feel like Virtua Racing. The mechanics are screwed up. You'd have to play it to believe it though because it looks great, but I use to have it along with the 32x and Genesis version, I could never get myself to play the Saturn version very long. It just doesn't feel right in comparison.
While the music here is great, the genesis' sound chip is being used for most of the music except the drum samples. I wish they would've used the 32x for the majority of the sound like they did in After Burner. That soundtrack was amazing.
Is it missing anything? And the 32x does add one more digital channel, which can be software-mixed into (Kolibri and a couple others do it). If this is screwed up I will take it down but I think it's a similar situation to Cosmic Carnage where the music doesn't actually use the 32x at all.
The Replay tune is just one of the best Mega Drive tunes. I know it uses the 32X's PWM for the drums, but heck, it's still primarily FM, with a great dose of PSG! BTW, do you own a 32X? You've already uploaded Cosmic Carnage, so I assume you do, because your channel needs some Knuckles Chaotix love!
Prepare to be blown away: It doesn't even use the PWM! That's why I was able to record it (from VGM files). I would love to do Chaotix but I think for that I would actually need a working 32x. I had two of the things at one point. They both died mysterious, unprompted deaths, and they honestly didn't work well when they did work. I have zero love for the 32x as a console and really wish it was emulated better...
Wow, then those are some of the clearest drums ever outputted from a Mega Drive... How come the add-on that has a sound chip to try and improve the original console's sound happens to have the best sounding FM tunes?
There were only two tracks that used PWM exclusively, and I think they were both only in the Japanese version: The SEGA Logo, and the SEGA Logo again when you've beaten the game (changes to a new tune).
I have this game it came in an ebay bundle when I decided to give the 32X a try. Still haven't played it, the cover is so dull! Sounds nice and Konami though
Decided to use the Brazilian cover on this upload just because it was different than the usual choices I make--but it turns out every region has a pretty boring cover
Truth be told, I've felt that way with quite a few Yamaha FM synth soundtracks. (Thunder Force 4 (not the metal songs. The jazz fusion ones), Galaxy Force 2 on Arcade, this game, etc) Same with Persona 5... actually mainly Persona 5.
your comment makes no sense - the 68000 is the Mega Drive / Genesis' 16-bit CPU, not a sound chip. This game is already using all 3 sound "chips" of the Mega Drive / Genesis & 32X combo - its own software-mixed PWM on top of the Mega Drive / Genesis' YM2612/YM3438 FM synth and SN76496 PSG.
No one is gonna talk about the intro, it's beautiful
I wish M2 made a Model 1 remix of that music in the SEGA AGES port on Switch
Armando Sandin i see. I don't own a Mega Drive and a 32X, but i do own SEGA AGES version on Switch
"Demonstration" and "Replay" both track made by Naofumi Hataya
It's so underrated but seriously among the greatest Sega songs ever made.
I prefer the replay
That select music is fucking heavenly and worth the price of the cart alone.
Fuck yes, I love Virtua Racing. The replay music reminds me of the intro for The Hybrid Front on the megadrive
For a game that people say "has no music" it sure makes for a long video!

Still the most content of any Virtua Racing game and it came out almost 30 years ago…I was truly blessed to have a 32x back in the day
The SS version had more content than the 32x version
@@AmbientMess damn, you are correct…I was not lucky enough to ever have a Saturn I missed out on that port
@@radzachreview Well I only wish they included the SS content in the Switch release. Otherwise it's an excellent version of the game :)
@@AmbientMess maybe someday we’ll get a “definitive” version with options for all the different music and content…highly doubt it though!
replay music is amazing
More robust than the standard Genesis version. 32X adds a whole drum kit and clear vocals.
Very nice.
It's the same drum kit as Knuckles Chaotix. "Which in options shows its the special 32X chip, as it shows what all 3 sound chips are doing."
32X Virtua Racing music is awesome! I boot the game up to just listen to the music sometimes. It is also fun to play.
Hands down the best game on the entire platform. It's worth getting a 32X just for this game.
I wholeheartedly agree! Such a fun game to pop in and play!
Virtua Fighter is just as faithful to the arcade, id rank it up there just the same.

I would say Knuckles' Chaotix is the best game on the entire platform, with Virtua Racing coming in at second. I'm glad I own both games!
Love this soundtrack. It sounds great on RUclips and all, but you can't beat the real hardware!
uh....... dude................. read the first line of the description
Replay theme will always be my favorite theme
The Replay theme at 6:51 is definitely my favourite track by far
Of course it ur favorite cuz the legend naofumi hataya did it
Sand Park reminds me of Reckless Running from Sega Rally, intriguing because Naofumi Hataya and Takenobu Mitsuyoshi worked on both.
It also reminds me of Waluigi Pinball.
Genuinely one of my favourite soundtracks, can't count how many times I've been back here!
This Game Is The Best Version Of Virtua Racing,New Courses,New Cars!
It's even better then the Saturn version if you ask me. i have this game on Megadrive, 32x and Saturn, and i preffer to play the 32x one
Yes! Love this music.
The music kicks in at variois points of the race, only game that ever did that
If you're gonna play Virtua Racing, you should play this version. It's the best version of the game imo. (Idk about the Saturn version tho, I haven't played it). it doesn't sound like this because the Genesis version uses some of the sound channels for sound effects

Jazz Fusion always made for perfect arcade video game music!! I wish todays video game music embraced jazz fusion again!
Replay has no business going this hard
How the fuck did this and the doom “soundtrack” end up on the same console???
Soundtrack tier: A
(Would probably be S-tier if most of it wasn’t just cool jingles and were actually full tracks)

best home version of VR as far as i'm concerned... better music and gameplay than Genesis, Saturn, and even the later PS2 arcade port/update.
Fantastic Sega upbeat de luxe

It's so damn catchy im not able listen to it in public due to obscene behaviour (8 O

I bought this at launch for the 32x and think I played it mostly for the soundtrack

Are you sure this is 100% accurate? I thought the 32X added more sound channels. Any plans on uploading the Genesis version too?
Is it missing anything? And the 32x does add one more digital channel, which can be software-mixed into (Kolibri and a couple others do it).
If this is screwed up I will take it down but I think it's a similar situation to Cosmic Carnage where the music doesn't actually use the 32x at all.
I dont think so, but I would just double check.
It is, most 32X games just used pwm samples for percussion and let the MD chips do the rest.
So is this missing pwm samples?
It is as in, it is accurate. To my knowledge anyway, I don't own the game.
Capa da versão BR, Tectoy era muito boa na época.
Naofumi Hataya the Great
I swear there's a really popular vocaloid song that uses the "Demonstration" soundtrack as a prominent sample, cant seem to find it tho.
yep!! online game addicts or something like that, a miku song
@@sienna1759Yeah, that's the one, "mmo addict's anthem'', I think.

My guess is because they have a whole Genesis/68000 to drive the sound section rather than just the Z80
There were only two tracks that used PWM exclusively, and I think they were both only in the Japanese version: The SEGA Logo, and the SEGA Logo again when you've beaten the game (changes to a new tune).
I have a 32X and Knuckles' Chaotix. Ive been thinking of recording the soundtrack. It would be on a stock Pal Megadrive and 32X though.
It's weird hearing this music without the engine noise

yeah, kinda reminds me of the beginning of Remember, We Got Your Back from Q2
Persona fans be like: this sounds like persona 😂
They should've used the 68000 for music, that would have created the most awesome sound ever
