During one of my university courses I actually worked with wasps that reproduced through parthenogenesis due to the presence of a bacteria. I tried to remove the bacteria to try and get the wasps to produce male offspring but it didn't quite work. Never knew parthenogenesis was common in certain vertebrates though so thanks for the video!
@@leopardgeckotalk No actually. The wasps are haplodiploid (males are haploid and females are diploid) and the bacteria messed with the life cycle so that unfertilised eggs, which would normally turn into males, would become females.
Ohhh. Wow. This is extremely interesting. Currently taking AP biology and I think ima ask my teacher about this and see if he knows anything more about this. Super cool!
Super hyped for this series!! Also not sure if I'm too paranoid about this but can someone give me advice please, I'm worried about my female leopard gecko Adora, I know she's in the ovulation period so I know that's why she isn't eating but she has not eaten in about a month or two, everytime I offer her something she ignores it and just casually comes upto me and climbs onto me instead. I feed her a variety of insects like crickets, mealworms, dubias ect any advice would be appreciated! Xx
Have you tried getting a wax worm or meal worm pupa, popping it open to the juices come out a little and getting her to lick it - there's something about those juices that really peak the interest of the most stubborn geckos lol :)
This animation is so reminiscent of my works training power points... I dont suppose you've done work for travelex at all? (Also thank you for the video, it was so interesting!)
this was the original human state: parthenogenic! bartolin glands originally produced sperm, for self seeding. an ex partner of mine, she had real issues with her glands.
So here’s my Jesus is real comment. The virgin birth happened. 1 in a billion humans experience it. Jesus died for your sins and resurrected from the grave!
So excited for the new series! I love animal related science.
Thank you :D Just wish more people would come and watch it, it takes ages to edit 🙈

Ah that's really interesting! So did the bacteria cause them to almost go into survival mode and have to use parthenogenesis to reproduce?

Can’t believe I took so long to watch this! Parthenogenesis is such an interesting topic, and you covered it very well.
