    Ron often "swears" in the books. I recall many times when he said something like "what in the name of merlin's saggy left-" and was cut off by someone.

    • @EricTheKei
      @EricTheKei 7 лет назад +13

      That may have been what Rowling meant -- he gets cut off just before getting to the "important" part of the swear.

      Lewis Smith DUDLEY HAS KIDS???!!!

    • @MrRyanick67
      @MrRyanick67 7 лет назад +29

      Actually, J.K. Rowling had intended to make Dudley's child a wizard and that in the epilogue of Harry Potter, Harry and Dudley would meet at the Platform 9 3/4 to see their children off to Hogwarts. But then J.K. Rowling changed her mind and stated that "no magic gene will ever get past down to the Dursley due to Harry's uncle intense hatred towards magic".

    • @jojo_is_a_go5893
      @jojo_is_a_go5893 7 лет назад +14

      Faiz Amin knowing that, any magical kids they had would've made another obscurial.

    • @Mukation
      @Mukation 7 лет назад +11

      Technically Vernons hatred comes from what he has heard from his wife Petunia. Everything Vernon and Dudley knew about magic came from her.
      She was initially envious of her sisters magic and that envy evolved into hatred. She took in Harry because she knew that her sisters magic protected Harry (and them as well) as long as he stayed with someone related to him on his mothers side.
      Even if she hated and mistreated him, she still "cared" enough to not let him be murdered :P

    • @nathaliem3322
      @nathaliem3322 7 лет назад +6

      No, it's definitely Vernon's innate hatred and genetic normalcy that killed any chances of Dudley's kids being magical. Vernon hated magic before he even knew there was magic; it's what drew Petunia to Vernon. Petunia sensed he had an affinity for the ordinary and hated everything that wasn't, so it was only to be expected for him to hate magic. Check out Vernon & Petunia Dursley on Pottemore.
      You've kind of said it yourself, Petunia's hatred of magic was sourced in envy, and I don't think that's enough to kill the gene. If she had married someone who wasn't "the worst sort of muggle imaginable," Dudley could definitely have had some magical offspring.
      But then the Dursley's wouldn't have been the Dursley's and Harry wouldn't have gone through all that character building (cough cough, abuse, cough)!

    Does the fact that Hermione went back to Hogwarts mean that she was in the same year as Ginny?

    • @TemariNaraannaschatz

      Yes, they finished school together =)

    • @TemariNaraannaschatz
      @TemariNaraannaschatz 7 лет назад +57

      Ginny is one year unter Hermione. BUT Hermione did not attend her seventh year at Hogwarts, while Ginny did attend her sixth year at Hogwarts. So AFTER the war was over they both went to their shared seventh year at Hogwarts. Together.

      Tom Dunne Hermione, Ron and harry quit hog warts before their last year so that they could look for horcruxes then hermione went back to do her finals.

    • @kratausahma1222
      @kratausahma1222 7 лет назад +23

      I've always imagined that those kids who studied in Hogwarts during the events of Deathly Hallows would go that through that grade again, because when Snape was the Headmaster, things were quite a lot different in Hogwarts. They weren't exactly teaching all those things they should've and some parts of magic they weren't supposed to teach the students according to the normal rules. So, according to that logic, Ginny would still be in her sixth grade (although in seventh year), when Hermione was on her seventh grade (and also on her seventh year, because she left the school after sixth grade/year and came back only after the events of DH). Of course, I have no fact-based knowledge of this, so don't take it too seriously. It's just what I figured that happened.
      (and sorry if this text has some errors, english is not my first language).

    • @TemariNaraannaschatz
      @TemariNaraannaschatz 7 лет назад +9

      Actually most of the stuff they taught was the same. I mean Herbiology doesn't change when Death Eaters take over the school, neither do Charms or Astrology and so on. The only thing that they probably did not get taught properly was DaDa, because there was no DaDa. And they were at war, so they probably knew what they would have learned already. And considering that Hermione, Ron and Harrys other DaDa teachers included a guy with Voldemort on his head, a guy who could only cast one spell really good and Umbrige, I think learning Dark Arts, instead of Defence against the Dark Arts is not that much of a difference. At least they learned something.

    Number 10 bugs me, like, a lot. If the Tale of the Three Brothers was real, and there's some decent evidence it was since the Stone works, then how does a simple spell see through a cloak powerful enough to hide its wearer from Death itself? And doesn't Moody's eye see through it a couple times too?

    • @Emsev100
      @Emsev100 7 лет назад +8

      DragonLandlord That's how humans work actually... for some reason (not all of us) but many humans can actually sense things we can't see... It´s kind of a survival defense. We feel like there is something that is not right or out of the ordinary, but we can't put a finger on what. I guess that is why Snape almost caught them from time to time. He is good at sensing things...
      Plus humans are not entirely quiet. Footsteps, breathing... and so on... The cloak makes you invisible not muted. (do you say muted in this sentence? Not born a english-speaker so I'm not sure!). (^_^)

    1. I guess that's why in the Lego HP games, Voldemort's boggart is Harry. 2. Makes sense...
    3. Poor Dumbledore!!!
    4. I always thought that the two wouldn't.
    5. Literally best fact of all time.
    6. Snape. Can seem to be bad, but has a slight breakthrough at death.
    7. Wasn't tks mentioned in the movie? I feel like it was, but probably not. I still feel like Neville is the real chosen one but Voldemort chose Harry himself. ;-;
    8. One of my favorite facts.
    9. It's shown in the Cursed Child though... which is technically a HP book.
    10. Dang. Dumbledore the smart

    • @tessbellman5229
      @tessbellman5229 7 лет назад +10

      Arianna Dovahkiin No, Cursed Child is not 'technically' a Harry Potter book. It is not. Sure, it is a bound book with pages but it is just the bound version of the script of a PLAY. Play scripts are not books, nor are the plays themselves. You cannot righteously criticize this fact with the backup that it was revealed in Cursed Child!!! I am tired of people saying that there are now eight books, because there is NOT! There is seven books, one play, and one bound and published play script!!! Thank you for listening to my concerns.

      Okay. Me calling it was a book is a little out of line. But with me, I count it as a half book- same with Shakespeare. It is written as a play, but being brought onto paper, in a book manuscript, I count it as a book... Like a dictionary is just a list of word meanings, but it counts as a book. :P But that's just my view on the matter

    Didn't Dudley set their childhood feud aside completely after Harry saved him from the dementor in OotP while Harry forgave him but had a hard time being around him? It's pretty evident in the DH goodbye scene that Dudley likes Harry and regrets his actions.

    • @Joeru510
      @Joeru510 7 лет назад +7

      Jk Rowling said that after the attack, Dudley now saw what was wrong with him and what he had been doing wrong all his life, therefore he started to change his attitude and personality since the dementors went after him because all he had were a lot of bad mean memories

    In Deathly Hallows, Percy Weasley abruptly decides to reconcile himself with his father and family. That happens to be about the same time that Peter "Wormtail" Pettigrew dies. Pettigrew, as Scabbers the rat, had been Percy's pet before he was Ron's. The books didn't way anything about any spells Pettigrew might've cast on Percy, but Pettigrew had plenty of opportunity to do so, and it might've worn off just as he died.

    Except for the chocolate frog cards I already knew them all, but I must say that Harry, Ron and Hermione making it onto those cards only made sense after what they had done. Harry might have been the chosen one to destroy Voldemort, but without Ron and Hermione he would definitely have failed. Basically the same for Frodo (Lord of the Rings) who had to destroy the one ring, but who would definitely have failed without Sam. Maybe a clear message about how you cannot obtain true success all by yourself but how you do need the support of others. Oh, I'm getting too philosophical here.
    I can also add that Flitwick is part goblin, and that is the reason he is so small. I believe Rowling did plan to mention that in the books, but never found the right place to do that.

    To fact #5: Dubledoor is Gay
    First, my argument is completely from a literary point of view. When you do a character analysis you can only go with what is actually in the written source material. You SHOW the reader who the character is, you don't TELL them who the character is.
    There is little if any evidence in the first seven books that establish any sexual orientation for the character. The author had plenty of time in her world building to include some artifacts that could suggest what she wants to be true. But she failed to do so. The intent of the author and the vision they have of the character is helpful to them to determine how they would act in a given situation, but if it doesn't get in the book that is where it ends.
    She could have a photo album of his Hogwarts days sitting next to a boy on a bench holding hands, in a pensive memory he could have mused on the attractiveness of a man he met at the ministry. Small things like that would not have detracted from the plot any more than the dozen obligatory pages about a quiddich match. But she chose not to.
    Dumbledore from the evidence in the book IS NOT GAY and he isn't straight either. He has no sexual orientation. Because for whatever reason it wasn't important to his character. It doesn't matter if the Author herself thinks it's true, or wishes she had done more to establish it in the books.
    So until she gets around to publishing Harry Potter: The After Years, and has a scene where Harry's Hogwarts reunion comes and sorts through a trunk of Dumbledore's things and find some evidence. Or she writes a prequel and includes substance to the fact, it will remain as it is now. The characters are only what is printed.

      If the CREATOR of Dumbledore says he's gay then he is gay .-.

    • @larrybobinski7156
      @larrybobinski7156 7 лет назад +15

      Yeah no, that isn't how it works among literary scholars. The creator can say something, and the fan base can accept it, but that doesn't make it true from a scholarly point of view. And that is the point I was arguing from. I said as much in the very first sentence of my argument. Personally I HOPE she writes more novels that exlore the the characters more deeply in a less "the world is ending" setting.
      I know "the world is on fire and we have to save it" is exciting and sells books, but could you imagine a fantasy romantic comedy involving a dumbledore love triangle. It would be wonderful.

    • @larrybobinski7156
      @larrybobinski7156 7 лет назад +14

      You can be completely devoted to someone or something without having a sexual attraction. You wouldn't say Mother Teresa wasn't completely devoted to the cause of serving the poor if she didn't think about how sexually attracted she was to them.
      No, that isn't good enough. I gave examples of what would constitute in text evidence. A vague slip of the tongue isn't substantial. She didn't say, "I was completely devoted to Grendlewald, and I realized that the moment we looked each other in the eye after a tender embrace." ... No, there was nothing of the sort ANYWHERE in the novels. Now granted that is pretty extreme and wouldn't be appropriate to the setting in a book aimed at children, but you hopefully get the point.

    Sadly, while the books were very entertaining, J.K. Rowling was not very good at building a consistent fantasy world and frequently contradicts herself in her statements and in the books. I call bullshit on the fact that Snape's portrait didn't appear because he "abandoned" his post as headmaster before his death. Fleeing from a duell in which his second in command tries to capture or kill him hardly qualifies as resigning and Minister Pius Thickness certainly did not sack him. Rowling just made that up when fans pestered her why there was no portrait of Snape mentioned in Harry's final conversation with Dumbledores portrait, she had probably just forgotten that it should be there when she wrote the scene.I also call bullshit on the statement that Dumbledore could sense Harry under the invisibility cloak using a silent "hominum revelio". In book 7, Rowling had revealed that the cloak was actually the third deathly hallow, it's protection not penetrable by any magic. If it was that easy, the cloak would hardly have been such a unique artefact. It also would have been incredibly unlikely that no one else ever tried that (Like e.g. the deatheater who tried "accio invisibility cloak" when Harry and his friends arrived in Hogsmeade in the 7th book and set off the caterwauling charm.A third statement I find rather unlikely is that Harry never graduated from Hogwarts, since we learn in book 6 that you definitely need NEWTS in several subjects (too lazy to look up the specific ones right now) to become an auror and we learn in book 7 that Harry did beome an auror, though I concede that they may have just made an exception for him based on the fact that he brought down the most dangerous dark wizard of all time.

      Actually I think that one of the main reasons Harry Potter is as succesful as it is now is that J. K. Rowling DID create a whole world with full of details and explanations. Of course we can find little mistakes in anything - no, I wouldn't say mistaxes but little unexplained or overexplained situations - but in the whole this is the ONLY series where the writer stays involved in all the movies, even in the Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them series and has a word and opinion that counts; like when she said that Dumbledore was gay although it had not been written in any of the books. And the way the story opens and turns out is crazy - when you read the books again you can really see why things happen as they happen and I can always found new details every time I read them.

    • @chrisrudolf9839
      @chrisrudolf9839 7 лет назад +35

      Nabin Great Well, on the one hand you do have a point, if there was one item that could penetrate through the defense of the cloak, then it might probably be another deathly hallow. But on the other hand, according to the tale of the three brothers, Ignotus Peverell used the cloak succesfully to hide from death himself, thereby escaping death's revenge. That is IMHO a strong point against the theory that other artefacts created by death could beat it. But maybe I'm overthinking it now, there were hints in the book that the tale of the three brothers was probably just a legend with a true core, not literally true.

    5: This was revealed and is now famous for starting a trend, also she said she, to quote your source, "Always THOUGHT of Dumbledore as gay". It's confirmed at this point, so second point.
    6: It doesn't say he does it himself.
    7: I think it was obvious, after 17 years, it's a lost hope.
    8: They literally reconciled at the start of book 7.
    9: I'd think this would have been obvious. Anyone trivial was on it.

      Depends on how you look at it, I guess. In the last book when Dumbledore revealed his friendship and Grindelwald, I always thought he talked about the other boy in a rather romantic manner. Might've been because of the Norwegian translation though, as "inflamed", in most scenarios means "horny as fuck" here.

    • @larrybobinski7156
      @larrybobinski7156 7 лет назад +4

      Correct, if it isn't in the book then it shouldn't be considered cannon. I'd argue that the movies could be considered cannon as well because there are some minor differences, but nothing major. As for the language of translation. I'd stick with the English translation for the simple reason it was originally written in English and later translated, and as the old saying goes things are often lost in translation.

    • @chrisrudolf9839
      @chrisrudolf9839 7 лет назад +7

      On the one Hand, JKR as the author and Inventor of those stories has every right to add to her stories and also to Change them, so if she says something is "fact" in the HP-universe then it is fact. Period. If she should decide today that Hermione was black, Ron was bisexual, Lavender Brown was actually a Boy and Sibyl Trelawy was a sphinx, then it is fact. On the other hand, a whole different issue is if we buy it that the made up on the spot facts she reveals in interviews or the feeble explanations she gives on Pottermore to cover up some of the plotholes in her stories are really all things she intended all along. Also, a "fact" about the story in a book is not worth anything if there is not the slightest hint at it in the story itself and the reader has no possibility to even suppose that "fact" might be possible.

    Didn't a death eater use Hominum Revelio, and it failed to detect Harry and co. when they were under the invisibility cloak in Hogsmeade? Granted, maybe it's just that his wand and skill are such that he can simply cast a more powerful version of the spell which could break past the defenses of the cloak. However, I think it would make more sense that Dumbledore developed his own method of detecting the cloak, considering he had it in his possession for about 10 years. He would have had ample time to study it and develop his own charm to detect or see through it.
